I'm a bass player. I like playing "lead bass" as much as the next person like Steve Harris or Geddy Lee. BUt they also have a clean tone and actually play complex lead parts within the realm of a bassline, not throwing on some distortion and picking the strings to cause a slap sound and saying it's a bassline.

the strings are on backwords if u look on the body u see where the strings would normaly go but there is alot of extra stuff thats how its tuned and it has locking things at the top to hold it . ive seen guitars with both sets of tuneing things and it has a switch that u flip on the part of the body to change it from standerd in to drop d standerd.

Oh, and as for him playing with a pick? Different technique, different sound. Finger style for a softer sound, slap for a percussive sound, picking for more note definition. He isn't using a pick because he can't play finger style, or because he wishes he was playing a guitar. If he wanted to play a guitar, he'd just go buy one. But he's playing bass. He uses a pick for the sound. A good sound. Take your "advise" elsewhere.

No. Does it sound like a bass normally does? No. It's a unique sound. And there's nothing wrong with that. He's trying something new, and in my opinion, it sounds damned good. He gets my praise. If you think this sounds like a guitar, clearly your head's so far up your own ass it's muffling the sound.
