  • Very interesting. I guess i learned one thing though. For some strange reason i always thought that the St. Bernard was the heaviest dog breed, or at least tied with the English Mastiff.....lol. :P

  • Actually you are wrong, today a Great Dane named George is the worlds largest dog. He stands at 43 1/2 inches tall and weights 245 pounds. Irish Wolfhounds ARE the tallest dogs overall the Great Dane has records of reaching the highest height so far to date.

  • MY Irish Wolfhound is 36 1/2 inches and 209 lbs and will be 9 in Oct. He was about 220 when he was 4 to 5 years old and he wasn't fat but he is very old now for a large male IW.

  • THANK you for speaking of the Bully

  • pit bulls are nice it just depends on how u treat them

  • Who gives a fuck?

  • You perhaps. :D

  • Maybe... xD

  • @Dimsensofus you do...!

  • They are not as tall as a Great Dane nor are they "tied at #2 with them". The Great Dane is simply a much taller breed these days and almost any dog fancier will tell you that.

The English Mastiff has decreased in size across the world and more specifically in North America to the point where it seems that right around that 30" mark is now the gold standard across most breeders.

  • the MALAKLI tends to get heavier AND taller than the english mastiff, but is as usually denied by guinness(wonder why?! english mastiff - english guinness LOL) ....... guinness would ofcourse never ever mention kangals and malaklis in their books

  • Let's put on out tin hats and come up with conspiracy theories. Do you realize how stupid you sound?

The English Mastiff rarely gets above 32" as it is. let's see a link for this Malakli Mastiff.

As I said, Kangals are not taller on average than a Dane or Wolfhound.

  • And another inaccuracy.

While the standard for the English Mastiff calls for dogs at least 30" many males fall in the range of 30"-32". It is rare to see an English Mastiff these days get much taller than that.

Height wise they usually are comparable to the smallest Great Danes you see.

  • I own 2 Bully Kutta's. They are not 44" dogs. Not even close. Calling a Bully Kutta a 44" dog is akin to calling a Great Dane a 42" dog based on Gibson's height, it is simply not true.

My Bully Kutta males are 30" at the withers and are considered average for the breed.

No breed AKC or unregistered on this planet averages 40" at the withers.

  • This video is horribly inaccurate.

First of all, the Irish Wolfhound does not exceed 160 pounds. 150 pounds is the upper spectrum for the breed. Breeders tend to average 34" for females and 36" for males although they can get to 38" or more depending on lines. They are the tallest dog in the world.

The Great Dane average falls between 32" at the low end to 38" for the high end. Healthy dogs, not ones bred solely for height. They are the second tallest dog breed in the world. AKC or otherwise

  • goood vdo. but if u add pics it wud be better

  • You should of included the pictures of the breeds, overall good video. 3 stars.

  • this is how i see it(tallest dogs)

    1. mackenzie wolf

    2. kangal

    3. irish wolfhound

    4. bully kutta

    5. great dane

  • I met Gibson briefly, while he is a very tall dog, I have taller dogs and have seen taller dogs. My English Mastiff is 38 inches and standing next to Gibson they were about the same height. In all honesty, I agree with your list for the most part but I would say the Bully Kutta is taller then those dogs and Mastiffs are about the same with Danes and Kangals. The Mackenzie Wolf isn't as tall as the other dogs listed and those breeds aren't really the tallest.

  • Well, it was the way I see it :D BUT, its indeed true that the mackensize wolf IS very tall. probarly the only dog who is 3ft+ at average. but honestly, i have no idea about the bully kutta so i will let it be unsaid for the moment ;)

  • The Mackenzie Valley Wolf only stands 29 - 36 inches. I agree, that is very tall. But many, MANY breeds are larger than that. There are also many, MANY breeds heavier.

    Thanks for the comment! * - MolosserKing®

  • well i have to disagree on that one. mackenzie wolves (males) stands 36-38 inches at average

  • Average males weigh between 100 and 145 pounds with females weighing roughly 10 to 20 percent less. The heaviest on record was caught in Alaska in 1939, weighing 175 pounds. They average 32 to 36 inches shoulder height, although some can be as small as 29 inches. The largest specimen was around 38-39 inches.

With that said, and no offense, 38 is not common ....

There are many, MANY dogs/breeds heavier and, again, many, MANY breeds/dogs taller.

  • @MolosserKing BS mate, you show me a taller BK, i have asked pakistanis and they say that the size is exaggerated and that they get to 35 inches max, still tall, just not the tallest dog

  • you keep saying many breeds are taller then so and so, but you never tell which one ... ?

  • Because his list is an imaginative one and he can't live with the fact that the Irish Wolfhound and Great Dane are easily taller than breeds like the English Mastiff, Bully Kutta, Kangal and other molosser type breeds where most tend to average between 28"-30" but the biggest specimens can get as large as 36-38" once in a bluemoon whereas the Wolfhound and the Great Dane do it quite regularly.

  • they usually measures danes at the NECK, not withers. some danes with a great posture can add 4-5 more inches by being measured at his neck but is still not very tall at the withers, for example the former guinness tallest AKC dog gibson(who never was the tallest dog) was TOPS 37-38 inches at WITHERS but claimed to be 42.2 at his NECK (high up at shoulders)

  • Uh no, this is just wrong. Great Danes are measured at the withers just like any other breed of dog in the world. I own 3, think I know what I'm talking about.

Really, you have no idea what you're saying.

Not very tall at the withers? My 2 males are both 38" and my female is 34" at the withers properly stacked, just like I measure my Bully Kutta's.

Gibson was 42 inches. I had my 38" male stand next to him and he was at the very least 3 inches taller.

  • Learn what the withers are. The withers are the top of the shoulder. Look at a dog like a Doberman, a Kangal, a Dane... all of them are measured at the top of their withers stacked properly. A poor posture actually adds more height than a proper stack.

You have no idea what you're even talking about. Wow.

  • @MolosserKing can you tell me what the tallest dog breed that you know

  • Comment removed

  • A 38" English Mastiff. Excuse me if I don't believe you. Maybe the Old English Mastiff but todays EM's barely hit 30 or 32" at the withers.

You say you have taller dogs and your EM was just as tall magically while being 4.5 inches shorter. Funny.

Let's see some pictures and proof of your oversized dogs that probably are nowhere near as tall as a Dane or Wolfhound.

  • @MolosserKing I am from Pakistan and own more than half a dozen of some awesome Bully Kuttas'. I research and breed them too. I over 30 yearz old and i still havent measured a Bully Kutta that passed 36-37 inches till shoulder. I am surprized to read the height you have stated of this breed. There may be some very tall Bully Kuttas that are taller than 40 but that would be an exceptional rare case. I also wonder where you gathered your stats from.

    Thank you

  • My goodness, the ignorance is astounding. I don't think either of you have ever done any decent research. Mackenzie wolf on avg 34" at the withers. Kangal Dog on avg 32" at the withers Bull Kutta on avg 32" at the withers A better list would look like this; Irish Wolfhound 34"-38" avg 36" Great Dane 32"-40" avg 36" Mackenzie Wolf 30"-36" avg 34" Bully Kutta 30"-38" avg 32-34" Kangal 28"-34" avg 30-32" I have yet to see more than the odd Kangal or Kutta bigger than an IW or a Dane.
  • Try to find a "real" adult male kangal below 34 inches at withers! THAT will be a challenge! the mackenzie wolf is way taller than that because here in sweden our own wolf is EASILY 34-36 inches at withers. Tallest dane is 40 at withers - TITAN. but average is less, tallest kangal was 43.5 but was denied by guinness because kangals arent AKC dogs (LOL) havent you learn anything about watching the video where you made your comments?

  • Haha, talking out of your butt again.

I own 2 Bully Kutta`s. They are tiny next to my Danes and these were imported from huge Pakistan stock. They`re 22 months and 30-32" at the withers. The average for the breed tends to call for dogs in the 30-36" range.

I think you have no idea what the withers are. You're lack of knowledge is truly alarming and then you try and say that Great Danes aren't measured at the withers? Laughable.

  • Let's see proof of this 43.5" Kangal dog. Oh wait, right, doesn't exist.

No dog would be denied just because it's not AKC registered.

Like I said, let's see proof. I already know you're talking out of your ass. It's quite funny in fact.

  • it has been up in several animal vs animal and dog forums, he WAS denied only because kangals arent accepted by guinness... the dog was 110 cm, well documented! long time ago now, but i have a pic of the dog

  • As for the Kangal, I have seen many below 34" at the withers. Mainly in part because the standard for the Turkish Kangal Dog calls for dogs to be 31"-32" at the withers. Are there some that are taller, sure. But they're not taller than a Wolfhound or Great Dane on average.

  • And to further add. What would I learn from a video that is full of lies and inaccuracy?

Secondly, let's see a picture of your Mackenzie. I know that you don't have one because if you did it would be confiscated. They can not be kept in civilian captivity.

  • dont have any, i only have a pic of a scandinavian wolf 3+ ft at withers which is kinda average

  • what you has been seing is ordinary anatolian shepherd dogs, NOT kangals... kangals IS taller than both danes and wolfhounds at average

  • No, I know about the Anatolian Shepherd's, there are a lot of them over here but I'm not confusing them with Kangal dogs.

We're talking about the Turkish Kangal here, right? Perhaps North American foundation stock is smaller than European stock because the Kangal bitches I've seen here are around 30"-32", the males 32"-36" at the high end.

  • Oh i also liked your video! and i seriously have looked at gibson the great dane in videos and he doesn't look to be 43 inches.

  • Thanks for the comments! Yes, both the Mastiff and Saint Bernard are amazing animals. I own each of those myself. Mastiffs are the heaviest breed and can be as tall or taller than Danes. They really are about equal in height. Now in weight they do weigh much more, though. Lol. Thanks again for the comment and the support.

  • Wrong again. It's unfortunate that you have so little knowledge about these breeds.

Do some research, anybody with half a brain knows that Great Danes are the taller breed quite easily. The last time I saw an English Mastiff over 34" at the withers was probably back in the mid 90's.

Must be adding some Dane into your Mastiffs.

  • your so easy fooled! try to understand that danes and wolfhounds are the tallest AKC DOGS only... but the world is bigger than that, open your eyes!!

  • You again have no idea what you're talking about.

Kangal dogs are 32" on average at the WITHERS.

Bully Kutta's are 30-34" on average at the WITHERS.

Just because these dogs can exceed their standard does not mean that it is common or the norm. 90% of the Bully Kutta's you see do not exceed 36" at the WITHERS. You're truly a fool.

  • Thats right, he is 37-38. iknow that for a fact :-) and to the ppl who doubt: just take a look at his homepage... sandy hall is several inches shorter than the self-claimed 5'5 cesar milan, in fact she isnt much over 5ft. now, gibson is said to be 107 cm (109 according to her) - that would make her only like 45 cm more than the dog (!) which means she would be only around 2 head lengths taller than gibson - which means gibson should reach her up to her chest. but he isnt even close to do that...

  • yeah i was thinking maybe sandy was tall or something cause im a girl who is 5'7" and when i measured it out that dog would be taller in comparison to me then he is to sandy but if she is smaller than the dog whisperer than something is not adding up for sure. Oh and i am so sad to hear they took off one of gibsons front legs. I honestly don't know maybe she should have put him down it might be easier for him. But i think she wants to get as much as she can from his fame sadly.

  • yes its sad, i guess she already made all the billions she wanted

  • I have a saint Bernard and a english mastiff. No joke people our english mastiff is taller than a lot of great danes we have seen and my saint is about the same height as some great danes. I really want to see a bully kutta i never heard of them before.

  • Just one think the correct name for great dane is german mastif

  • Actually no its not. Its Deutsche Dog. German Mastiff is another name for it, but not the only one thats correct.

  • irish wolfhound-120 cm !! that was the tallest dog..Spanish Mastiff 120-140 kg not rare..:) research..

  • Those two breeds are not in the top ten tallest or heaviest. Thanks for the comment!

    *- Molosser King®

  • Gibson is NOT 42 inches! he isnt even 38

  • I'm going by what most people believe since thats what the owners and all the news groups claim. I know he's not very tall. I have many dogs taller and many dogs heavier. Hes not tallest dog, even if he was 42.2 inches at the shoulder.

  • theres a video on youtube that shows true bully kuttas, unfortuatly its a fighting video but the bully kuttas are 40"+ they are the biggest breed in the world, end off second if the irish wolf hound, that it, the "other" breeds your talking about must not exist, sorry.

  • They are not the largest or tallest dog breed. They are one of them, though.

  • well i just recently purchased a blue nose pibull atleast thats what the breeder told me but the mom and dad aren't very heavy dad 70 lbs mom 50lbs is this considered a bully or whats the proper name for this dog? tx

  • If a breeder is selling "Blue-Nosed" dogs they are a "Back-Yard" breeder. Blue-Nosed is a color, not a breed. I'd have to see them to know what breed or mix they are. Sounds more like an American Bully ( Not American Bulldog. ) but it could be an APBT. If you can send a pic I'd be glad to get back to you!

  • i think he means of the color variation of nose leather. Red nose apbt have a dark red to pink nose colore and usually the nails are also pink to a soft red color. and blue nose is an apbt with a black or "blue" nose leather. and the more popular blue nose are those that are actually "blue". smokey grey, silver, grey, which ever you prefer. i think thats wat ahurt means.

  • Ok im confused i looked at some Bully Kutta's here on youtube and none of them look big. Is there somewhere i can look to see a big one like as big as you say they are?

  • would have been nice if you showed some pictures.

  • Thanks for the advise. This is my second time making a video and I can agree that it does look a little plain. I can inform you that it is very informative, though.
