also i said it before im in the navy and have buddies from louisiania i told them that if you shut down their running game and do ok on offense then u can beat lsu their qb are terrible, they have 4 beast of rbs and bama stopped them all and made jefferson beat bama and we found out that he wasnt good enough! to end all of this bs about bama being in the game then ok st dont lose then stanford then bosie st and bama wouldnt be back inthe game.

You know why LSU was so bad? Because thats how good we played. Thats it. Plain and simple. Worst game ever? As an Alabama native and resident and Tide fan. Best game ever!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody could have beaten us that night. OK. State, yall keep talkin yalls crap. Yall really think yall could have beaten us with our defense. This aint the big 12. We play run the ball down your throat/lights out defense football!! We are National Champs. And we are just gettin started yall. ROOOOOLL DAMN TIDE!!!!
Lsu wasnt bad..our Defense was just that great.Thats all..Bama had the same game plan as the first game.OK state doesnt play big boy football and theres no way in hell they wouldve made it past the 50 yard line either.Lsu only got past it once.Moron.You're biased because you love Offense...face it.Title games are won by great Defense in the SEC in case you havent noticed you idiot.
why should anyone hate great defense ....I can understand not liking the SEC , but face it 6 yrs in a row the SEC came out with yet another title ,and for those who thought Bama shouldnt be there all I can say is it was a beatdown a shutout
Listen up, rest of the country. BALANCE on offense along with DEFENSE wins championships. The SEC has literally proven this every single year for the past six years. Blame the BCS all you want, but the SEC has beaten the best Big 10 team twice, the best Big 12 team three times, and the best Pac 12 team.
Like I said just a dominating performance by one team. It's about winning championships, I'm sure fans an players dont care about joe blow from who cares where was entertained or not. I'm a bama fan So I guess I can care less about u being entertained. U want entertainment watch reality tv jersey shore comes on daily.
@kirkl204 Maybe, possibly, that was definitely a possibility. But people said the same things about the Rams when they played the Pats in the SB, When the U.S. played the U.S.S.R. in 1980, when Ole Miss played UF (The Tebow speech game), etc. The point is I would have liked to see it. The Pats played the Ravens yest -- offense vs. defense and I'd say that was a hell of a game. Let 'em play is all I'm saying. The results are irrelevant.
Chill out ok st fans. Bama would have blisterd the cowgirls I meant cowboys. Ok st don't play big boy football. It wasn't a snoozefest. These commentators are idiots. This was just a dominating performance by 1 team.
@johnhollis54 First off, to rehash once more: We are not Ok. St fans. Saying Ok. State didn't play big boy football is ridiculous, but that's your opinion. I thought it was a snoozefest and so did many other people that I've talked to. Calling us idiots isn't adding anything to the discussion. If you disagree with us, that's cool. We're all about a good debate. And I'm sorry, isn't Alabama the same team that lost to UTAH in the Sugar Bowl not so long ago? Anyone can beat anyone.
@JuicedSportsRadio@JuicedSportsRadio It's funny that you say the game was boring, cause all the games that team were puttin up 50+ points in these bowl games my caowrokers and I turned from them. NO DEFENSE. No big hits, nobody getting knocked out just 3-5 plays and touchdown. The reason this was the least watched BCS game is simple. SEC vs SEC and not SEC vs the world. The SEC has beaten the so call "high powered offense" teams 5 straight years. Oregon (back to back) TX, Ok, and Ohio St.
@DurtyDirkDiggler I agree with you that score-a-thons are boring. But I believe Scott is just talking about the populous. You don't have to agree...I don't and I'm the co-host. Also the Iowa State game came after a huge emotional event.
@JuicedSportsMike Now don't jump all on me when I say this but all that talk about about emotional event is "Hog Wash" from the media. I bet half that team didn't even know the coaches of the baskeball team that died. It may sound harsh but it's the truth nobody wants to say. Also, when Arkansas lose to LSU nobody (the media) said anything about the team being in an emotional state. An actual football player died on Arkansas football team that week of that game that the players see and know,
@JuicedSportsRadio Every conf watches in hope of the SEC losing so than can bash us. But each year after facing real DEFENSES they cry and whine and realize that their defense are not just built that way.And no team that lost to Iowa St should be in no title game. Oh besides Top rank defenses that face each other don't score a lot of points. Steelers vs Ravens good example. And didn't you see the number of Jared Lee vs Alabama. 1TD to 8INT why would you put him in. You do seem like Ok ST fans
@curtycurt1027 Well of course! But we speak from a national perspective. If banana wasn't in it would you have really thought it was an EXCITING game? That's one of the points I tried to make. Listen to the video: we're not just a couple of talking heads. Then listen to the points we make and if you still feel the same way - unbiased- then that's fine. But if you're going to comment you might want to hear our points first.
I can't even watch the video because of the title. What about the Bama fans?? We didn't think it was a snoozefest, actually we enjoyed it a lot. I'm sorry I don't care if Alabama played Ok State, LSU or the damn Patriots... On January 9th 2012 Alabama was not going to lose to ANY team, no way, no how.
@curtycurt1027 I understand it is an absolute and I personally enjoyed the game. I think Scott is getting across the point that to the NATIONAL audience, the game was a bit tough to watch. Fans of defense (myself included) enjoyed the game, but offensive fans were turned off. It doesn't diminish the fact that Alabama put on one of the great defense performances (in any sport) in history.
I'm sorry, I stopped listening to this telephone analysis at the 2:41 mark when one of you "sports guys" actually stated that Okie State would have beat Alabama on January 9......really?? This defense has dominated everyone this year, with the exception of option-heavy GA Southern. OK State could not have run on Alabama, thus the Tide could pin their ears back and rush through a suspect O-Line and push old-man Weeden to force passes into a defense with seven in coverage, better think again.
@archbamafan Fair enough, an Alabama fan obviously would not argue against their defense. But OKie St. has a good QB and a much better offense than LSU. I think it would have been more competitive at least.
Saban didn't prepare the offense all that well? They put up 21 pts and 384 yds on the #2 defense in the country. OK State had the #107st ranked defense. What do you think Bama's offense would have done to them? Here's the reason I don't feel bad for OK State, Stanford or any other teams, Mike Slive of the SEC recommended a +1 model back in 2008 and it would have been in play this season if the Big 12, Pac 10 and Big 10 had approved it. The ACC is the only other conference that was for it.
@JuicedSportsMike You need to listen to your own show again. At 4:15, "Nick Saban had them prepared to play defense. He trusted his defense. He really obviously didn't look like he prepared his offense that well, but the defense came ready to play."
@marley95 What I am saying is it didn't look like. Not that he didn't. I am saying to the viewer, the game made both offenses look ill-prepared. Great defense is great defense but everyone has weaknesses. It just didn't seem like Saban adjusted at all because they coasted on the defense significant performance. The offense is there to score points not just get yards. I hear your argument, but I was making a generality about the viewing audience.
Thanks for the comments so far guys. You don't have to agree with everything we say. That's fine. The idea is to create debate. Many of you gave brought smart intellectual arguments to the table and have valid points. We love the opinion. Keep it coming, it's why we do these shows.
@chucky418 You're actually quite wrong, I played basketball in middle school and high school and played football for a little while till I shattered my knee playing basketball. Regardless, most great analysts and writers and even General Managers never or hadn't played a ton of sports before entering the booth or office. If you make a point that's respectable, it would help your argument. We're glad you enjoyed the show.
"What have you done for me lately" is not a valid premise to make an argument. Just because everybody does it, doesn't make it right. If OK ST wanted to be #2 (and by extension have a shot at #1), they probably shouldn't have choked the Iowa State game. Alabama and LSU both played games during their regular seasons that showcased a similar disparity of skill between themselves and their opponent, and did not choke. Therefore they are both more consistent, and thus better. End of story.
@Arundodonax I agree but that is what Scott chose to argue and in a flawed system like the BCS, what have you done for me lately (IMO) is a valid point to tackle. I wouldn't say OSU choked, they were getting over a fairly recent tragedy before the game. But I do think you have a point in the LSU and Alabama head-to-head.
I will tell you, a defense not letting a #1 team cross the fifty yard line but once and then they knocked them back across then!!! That is a record that probably will never get broke again!!
Now I'm a Bama fan..I'm glad my team is number one..but I agree one hundred percent that Okl St should have been number two in the rankings NOT LSU! At least Okl St won their game!
@rtds9fan It's a completely flawed system: Is it 'What have you done for me lately?'... like it is all year, or is it your body of work for the season? The voters apparently went with body of work, but they need to be consistent. Because Stanford should have been ahead of USC - who they beat! - in the final poll, but were slotted behind because they lost their final game. So which is it, what have you done for me lately, or body of work?
Newsflash on auburn. They werent left out of anything. usc and ou were ranked 1 and 2 all year, never lost, and blew out everyone on their schedule. au was ranked somewhere around 16 or so. usc and ou were the 2 best teams all year. au was supposed to climb to number 3 then jump number 2? whatever. usc would have destroyed au the same as it did ou. but no, au wasnt left out of anything. tcu went undefeated when au won the mnc in 2010, so i guess tcu was left out too.
@2424jpep You're correct, but that doesn't mean it was right. My point was, because of the SEC's iron fist over the rest of college football, it would never happen today. The SEC school would jump others because of the perceived strength of the SEC. Still, OU was in the top 2 all year and then lost their final game to fall to #3. So if LSU was in the top 5 all year, and then lost their final game, why didn't OkSt jump them like Auburn jumped OU? Ironically USC vacated that title.
These guys want to see two teams play against each other that has no defense and see who can score the most points without having a defense on the field. What makes them think that OSU could beat BAMA, OSU don't have a defense so BAMA would every time they had the ball
@m161727 Wrong! We never said that. Go back and listen to the video again. Not once did we say that. But it would've been nice to see a team throw the ball into the endzone, I don't know, more than once. It was so predictable -- long BAMA drive, failed 3rd down attempt, field goal. most people hate a game decided by FGs, so why are people so defensive of a game that was decided by FGs? OSU should have had the CHANCE. What would have happened is irrelevant.
@m161727 No, not necessarily, I enjoyed the game. I think Scott's point, is that the populous is more attracted to high scoring games. I said myself in the video that it the defensive performance was both "dynamic" and "one of the best defensive showings I've ever seen."
@juicedmike Thanks and sorry for a rant but you nailed it. Yep, I bleed crimson and living in Washington State I am very discouraged hearing everyone I know belittle what is one of the best played bowl wins ever. But it happened pretty the same when AU met MSU in Orlando. Alabama happened to them too. I understand OSU fans frustration but hey they lost. Not AU's fault. Did you see the first half of the 2010 Iron Bowl? That was frustrating but only an idiot like Harvey Updyke does not get taking
As for your balance offense vs. defense comments, I am confused. You want the games to be choreographed to your liking? I think the WWF is a better sport for you in that case. What if there was a playoff and you saw say three performance like this in a row from Alabama? Would you still be so upset about it? I don't think so. You and every other WWF watcher would be cheering then I suspect! Who cares what the ratings were. I suspect the general public knows as much about football as you guys.
@MrDieselfitter Actually, we know quite a bit. I have been doing scouting for the NFL Draft for six years. But if you listen correctly, only Scott had a problem with the game. I was actually quite fond of the defensive performance. You are obviously an Alabama fan, so I understand your immediate discouragement with anyone taking away from what they accomplished, but LSU was number one all season, so it was shocking that is our argument we are having.
@MrDieselfitter Miami-OSU Tostitos Fiesta Bowl was a great game. Why? Because there was drama, comebacks, playmakers all over the field, and you had 2 different styles. Neither team scored 60 points. USC-Texas was also awesome, albeit more high scoring. Miami-BC from a number of years ago was like 12-7, but was incredibly memorable. It's not the scoring, it's what happens in the game. What plays will you remember defining this game in 5 years? That's my argument.
@JuicedSportsRadio I get your point but there was plenty to get excited about. My favorite play was probably Norman catching a pass over the Honey Badgers head by design. Instead of avoiding Mathieu they went right at him with great success. Everything in game one was perfectly countered in game two by Bama. It was a masterpiece of coaching preparation and execution.
@MrDieselfitter And for the record: I hate the WWE, precisely because it's staged. If the outcomes were pre-determined in sports I wouldn't watch. No one in their right mind would have predicted the FIghting Tebows to beat the Steelers last weekend, but they did. And the way they did was stunning. We watch to be captivated. I'm sorry, but LSU-Bama just wasn't captivating. Felt like 2 teams playing in quick sand.
What happened to LSU? Alabama happened to LSU. Jefferson had no time to pass and the run was covered. Putting Lee in would have made no difference to either of these two things. As far as how "terrible" a game this was then I ask if you want to see games like Baylor vs. Washington? Is that the dream game? Washington fired their defensive coordinator after the game so there go all the "fun" in football I guess. Sorry you guys don't know much about football or you could enjoy it more.
LSU stompped the crap out of UWV and Bama's defence is ranked 1st in all four major cats. How can you say OSU would beat Bama when UWV as the same spread offence as OSU and LSU only is ranked 4th in total defence.
@zoomzoomfast These are all fair points, but that's what makes it interesting. The contrast. Maybe LSU/Bama would have killed OkSt, but c'mon, you wouldn't have been interested in watching the high powered, new school Cowboys versus an old school SEC d for the Nat'l title? There's a reason for the expression, "opposites attract." While stats are great, they don't tell the whole story. No one would have picked the US to beat the USSR in 1980, but they did. Let 'em play, is all!
this has to be produced in an OSU freshman dorm room........ my biggest regret is the time of my life that is now wasted having lost it to this 15 minute video.....
Ratings for the game were also the LOWEST EVER. Even the experts who wanted this game where dumbfounded how a championship game at this level could be this unwatchable.
watch 2min of the clemson game to get your TD fix....anyways I'd rather watch a great defensive game than a race to 60 points. If i wanted that I'd watch a basketball game. Also we saw how many records sets for points scored in bowl games this year? I'm sure people were happy to actually see defense for once.
If you have to watch the bama/lsu game again take a shot everytime lsu goes 3 and out.
@murph1329 Yes, there was an absurd amount of offense in the Orange Bowl, but why does it have to be one or the other? The best, most memorable games usually fall somewhere in between. Offense was everywhere this bowl season, including the other BCS games. The thought here is this: Watching yesterday was like watching two bullies beat up on each other. They were both powers, so there was no cinderella, and both teams were good at the same thing. We like close games: LSU looked lost last night.
I'm sure you thought the first LSU/Alabama game was terrible too. It's clear you don't have a real appreciation for the game. It's not all about touchdowns. I'm sorry you find good defensive play boring, and you only like it when two teams have a high scoring shootout. There are a lot of us that can appreciate good defensive football, where each yard has to be painstakingly clawed from your opponent. Alabama only allowed an undefeated LSU to get past the 50 yard line once. Amazing game.
@argmanah The first game was superior to this one, because it was competitive. We do have an appreciation for the game and Baylor-Washington wasn't a great game either. SO on that sense I agree with you. But neither team sniffed the endzone, like literally. Before Alabama's late scamper, neither team even threw anywhere near the endzone, and each third down for Bama deep in LSU territory was a predictable failed play. Contrast makes things interesting. This game was a rock and a hard place.
The way college football determines their national champion is a complete joke. Get a damn playoff system like everyone else has. The BCS is a very laughable system. I gave up on college football because of the unfair BCS system. It's nonsense. I remember a number of years ago, Auburn went undefeated but didn't even get a chance to play for a national title. It's ridiculous.
@spinnerNsports Ironically since that Auburn mess, the SEC has been a machine practically every year since. Playoff is probably not going to happen any time soon, but a PLUS1 has to be discussed. It makes too much sense not to see the light of day.
Of course we will never know. Doesn't matter if there is a playoff system or not, you're not going to necessarily get the ideal game you want to see every single time, regardless of how the cards fall. You will never know how some teams will play against each other anyway, because even in playoffs, certain teams get beat & are eliminated entirely, thereby quelling their chance to play teams of your choosing in match-ups you'd find fashionable. OSU may not have even played BAMA in playoffs either
@KillaCamCorte Thank you for bringing up this point. You are right, and we addressed that on the segment: you don't always get the ideal matchup, but no one gets left at the altar with a playoff. If you win you move on. It's the best system that we have right now in sports. Some school will always be left unhappy, but you can't please 'em all. Missing out on the 5th best team or 8th best team is not nearly as bad as not giving the 3rd and 4th best team -- PLUS1! -- a chance to win it on field.
also i said it before im in the navy and have buddies from louisiania i told them that if you shut down their running game and do ok on offense then u can beat lsu their qb are terrible, they have 4 beast of rbs and bama stopped them all and made jefferson beat bama and we found out that he wasnt good enough! to end all of this bs about bama being in the game then ok st dont lose then stanford then bosie st and bama wouldnt be back inthe game.

Arundodonax 1 month ago
@Arundodonax I agree but that is what Scott chose to argue and in a flawed system like the BCS, what have you done for me lately (IMO) is a valid point to tackle. I wouldn't say OSU choked, they were getting over a fairly recent tragedy before the game. But I do think you have a point in the LSU and Alabama head-to-head.
JuicedSportsMike 1 month ago
I will tell you, a defense not letting a #1 team cross the fifty yard line but once and then they knocked them back across then!!! That is a record that probably will never get broke again!!
m161727 1 month ago 8
@m161727 Completely agree, it is almost bizarre how LSU didn't even attempt to adjust. Alabama's performance was unbelievable.
JuicedSportsMike 1 month ago
Now I'm a Bama fan..I'm glad my team is number one..but I agree one hundred percent that Okl St should have been number two in the rankings NOT LSU! At least Okl St won their game!
rtds9fan 1 month ago

2424jpep 1 month ago
@2424jpep You're correct, but that doesn't mean it was right. My point was, because of the SEC's iron fist over the rest of college football, it would never happen today. The SEC school would jump others because of the perceived strength of the SEC. Still, OU was in the top 2 all year and then lost their final game to fall to #3. So if LSU was in the top 5 all year, and then lost their final game, why didn't OkSt jump them like Auburn jumped OU? Ironically USC vacated that title.

These guys want to see two teams play against each other that has no defense and see who can score the most points without having a defense on the field. What makes them think that OSU could beat BAMA, OSU don't have a defense so BAMA would every time they had the ball
m161727 1 month ago
@m161727 Wrong! We never said that. Go back and listen to the video again. Not once did we say that. But it would've been nice to see a team throw the ball into the endzone, I don't know, more than once. It was so predictable -- long BAMA drive, failed 3rd down attempt, field goal. most people hate a game decided by FGs, so why are people so defensive of a game that was decided by FGs? OSU should have had the CHANCE. What would have happened is irrelevant.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
@m161727 No, not necessarily, I enjoyed the game. I think Scott's point, is that the populous is more attracted to high scoring games. I said myself in the video that it the defensive performance was both "dynamic" and "one of the best defensive showings I've ever seen."
JuicedSportsMike 1 month ago
Haha WWE... Thanks in case I need the analogy again!
MrDieselfitter 1 month ago
@juicedmike Thanks and sorry for a rant but you nailed it. Yep, I bleed crimson and living in Washington State I am very discouraged hearing everyone I know belittle what is one of the best played bowl wins ever. But it happened pretty the same when AU met MSU in Orlando. Alabama happened to them too. I understand OSU fans frustration but hey they lost. Not AU's fault. Did you see the first half of the 2010 Iron Bowl? That was frustrating but only an idiot like Harvey Updyke does not get taking
MrDieselfitter 1 month ago
As for your balance offense vs. defense comments, I am confused. You want the games to be choreographed to your liking? I think the WWF is a better sport for you in that case. What if there was a playoff and you saw say three performance like this in a row from Alabama? Would you still be so upset about it? I don't think so. You and every other WWF watcher would be cheering then I suspect! Who cares what the ratings were. I suspect the general public knows as much about football as you guys.
MrDieselfitter 1 month ago
@MrDieselfitter Actually, we know quite a bit. I have been doing scouting for the NFL Draft for six years. But if you listen correctly, only Scott had a problem with the game. I was actually quite fond of the defensive performance. You are obviously an Alabama fan, so I understand your immediate discouragement with anyone taking away from what they accomplished, but LSU was number one all season, so it was shocking that is our argument we are having.
JuicedSportsMike 1 month ago
@MrDieselfitter It has been called WWE for 12 years by the way.
JuicedSportsMike 1 month ago
@MrDieselfitter Miami-OSU Tostitos Fiesta Bowl was a great game. Why? Because there was drama, comebacks, playmakers all over the field, and you had 2 different styles. Neither team scored 60 points. USC-Texas was also awesome, albeit more high scoring. Miami-BC from a number of years ago was like 12-7, but was incredibly memorable. It's not the scoring, it's what happens in the game. What plays will you remember defining this game in 5 years? That's my argument.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago

JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
What happened to LSU? Alabama happened to LSU. Jefferson had no time to pass and the run was covered. Putting Lee in would have made no difference to either of these two things. As far as how "terrible" a game this was then I ask if you want to see games like Baylor vs. Washington? Is that the dream game? Washington fired their defensive coordinator after the game so there go all the "fun" in football I guess. Sorry you guys don't know much about football or you could enjoy it more.
MrDieselfitter 1 month ago
LSU stompped the crap out of UWV and Bama's defence is ranked 1st in all four major cats. How can you say OSU would beat Bama when UWV as the same spread offence as OSU and LSU only is ranked 4th in total defence.
zoomzoomfast 1 month ago

@dtmedders1 We're both from Florida actually and had no rooting interest in any of the 3 teams. Glad you enjoyed the video though!

Ratings for the game were also the LOWEST EVER. Even the experts who wanted this game where dumbfounded how a championship game at this level could be this unwatchable.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
watch 2min of the clemson game to get your TD fix....anyways I'd rather watch a great defensive game than a race to 60 points. If i wanted that I'd watch a basketball game. Also we saw how many records sets for points scored in bowl games this year? I'm sure people were happy to actually see defense for once.
If you have to watch the bama/lsu game again take a shot everytime lsu goes 3 and out.
murph1329 1 month ago
@murph1329 Yes, there was an absurd amount of offense in the Orange Bowl, but why does it have to be one or the other? The best, most memorable games usually fall somewhere in between. Offense was everywhere this bowl season, including the other BCS games. The thought here is this: Watching yesterday was like watching two bullies beat up on each other. They were both powers, so there was no cinderella, and both teams were good at the same thing. We like close games: LSU looked lost last night.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
I'm sure you thought the first LSU/Alabama game was terrible too. It's clear you don't have a real appreciation for the game. It's not all about touchdowns. I'm sorry you find good defensive play boring, and you only like it when two teams have a high scoring shootout. There are a lot of us that can appreciate good defensive football, where each yard has to be painstakingly clawed from your opponent. Alabama only allowed an undefeated LSU to get past the 50 yard line once. Amazing game.
argmanah 1 month ago
@argmanah The first game was superior to this one, because it was competitive. We do have an appreciation for the game and Baylor-Washington wasn't a great game either. SO on that sense I agree with you. But neither team sniffed the endzone, like literally. Before Alabama's late scamper, neither team even threw anywhere near the endzone, and each third down for Bama deep in LSU territory was a predictable failed play. Contrast makes things interesting. This game was a rock and a hard place.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
The way college football determines their national champion is a complete joke. Get a damn playoff system like everyone else has. The BCS is a very laughable system. I gave up on college football because of the unfair BCS system. It's nonsense. I remember a number of years ago, Auburn went undefeated but didn't even get a chance to play for a national title. It's ridiculous.
spinnerNsports 1 month ago
@spinnerNsports Ironically since that Auburn mess, the SEC has been a machine practically every year since. Playoff is probably not going to happen any time soon, but a PLUS1 has to be discussed. It makes too much sense not to see the light of day.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
This game was terrible.
vash1053 1 month ago
@vash1053 Not shockingly, so were the corresponding ratings. Worst ever.
JuicedSportsRadio 1 month ago
Of course we will never know. Doesn't matter if there is a playoff system or not, you're not going to necessarily get the ideal game you want to see every single time, regardless of how the cards fall. You will never know how some teams will play against each other anyway, because even in playoffs, certain teams get beat & are eliminated entirely, thereby quelling their chance to play teams of your choosing in match-ups you'd find fashionable. OSU may not have even played BAMA in playoffs either
KillaCamCorte 1 month ago
@KillaCamCorte Thank you for bringing up this point. You are right, and we addressed that on the segment: you don't always get the ideal matchup, but no one gets left at the altar with a playoff. If you win you move on. It's the best system that we have right now in sports. Some school will always be left unhappy, but you can't please 'em all. Missing out on the 5th best team or 8th best team is not nearly as bad as not giving the 3rd and 4th best team -- PLUS1! -- a chance to win it on field.
