Really liked this video. Hoping one day to get the hang of the moisture balance situation. Some days I am there then I am not. I wish this would be consistent, but it it is not so for me just yet ...
@enaruvie You will get it it takes patience and consistency. When you find what works just stick with it. Also, listen to your hair just like you get more thirsty on some days than others so does your hair, so it may need more moisture on some days and less on others. Thanks for watching!
this so true i actually started drinking more water and moisturising my hair, and my curl pattern seems to have changed but its just the curls are actually springing back in to the proper position.
Your hair is definitely 4a. The definition of 4b labeling is that it doesn't have a definite curl pattern. To say that you are 4b and have a curl pattern is a contradiction. I have 4b hair and even when very moisturized a curl pattern does not appear. But your hair is beautiful none the less. And it is a good message to put out that anyone's hair can grow and be healthy no matter the curl pattern.
@StarRoseAngelic All afro hair is curly /coily, the coil of the hair is what makes it stand out into an afro. So all afro hair has a curl pattern. Your hair may not be getting as much moisture as you think. If it is overly porous, it is loosing the moisture as quick as you get it. Use an acidic rinse for your final step. And rinse your conditioner out with cold, cold water, to close your hair cuticle.
@missVeemack Thank you for the tips, but I actually do this every wash. My 4b hair is very coily, but the coils are the size of the of the metal coil you would see in a skinny pen. And when pulled it turns into a z shape.
My mother has 4a hair. Her curls are larger, s-shaped, and looks exactly like the image shown at 0:14 of this vid. A lot of people confuse hair typing because they have never experienced another person with a different hair pattern than theirs.
@StarRoseAngelic Wow I didn't think it was this serious LOL. Hair type as I have said before really doesn't mean much and I use it because it is the visual that most seem to be able to relate to, however, one or 2 curls does not a 4a head make. If you watch the other videos you can clearly see the zig zag pattern throughout the length of my hair which then turns into an s coil only on the ends of select strands. Other strands that do coil on the end have very tiny, very tight coils.
FINALLY!!!! A woman that looks like me! Looks my age, has thin hair like mine and 4b hair like mine!!!! I loved your video and will definitely be watching any others. I've been natural for over a year but only started twisting and using shea moisture and KCCC stuff since July. My curls are pretty much defined, moisturizing enough and maintenance is my problem and what I work on now. Thanks so much for this video! I am ENCOURAGED!!!!
@Candibear90422 Thanks for watching and there does seem to be a shortage of mature women on YT in all categories. I also wanted to point out that my hair is not really thin. My strands are very fine but I have a lot of them. Thin hair refers to not having many strands. My hair is average thickness with fine strands.
Just wanted to say Thank You!!!! The shrinkage that I have I thought I was truly by myself when I pull it out I c length but when I do my wash n go's its like Im still at 2 months bc!!! But this had made me feel a whole lot better about my hair!
I love this video. Not a lot of talking...actually no talking at all...straight to the point with real photos and the information we need in text form on the products. I actually blow dry (low) and flat iron my hair once or twice a month after washing. I wear a high bun and moisturize daily...as my natural curl pattern begins to return (4 or 5 days), I wear two cornrows. My hair is growing well and I'm getting lot of compliments and copycats (another form of compliment). Thanks for posting!!!
@gggrinz ummmmm Im sorry, i was giving my opinion....but if you look at other ppls comments about saying its like other hair types, then you can get on them on how they dont know NOTHING about curl patterns....:-)
@NicoleStallion What the heck are you talking about? :3 You make absolutely no sense! It doesn't matter what your opinion is, her hair is 4b NOT 4c end of story. Most ppl in the comments are saying that she's 4a, so you're obviously soooo ooooffffffff.
I really like the point you made about people not being able to tell the growth of 4b hair because of shrinkage of the curl pattern. But all people have to do is use common sense in this case: 4b natural hair can be compared to a telephone coil wire...when it's tightly coiled it appears to look many times shorter than it's real length when it's stretched or extended. Great point, kiddo.
Not to tell you about your hair, but normally 4a hair has a definable curl pattern and 4b doesnt...that's what makes it 4b...so that would make your hair 4a, not 4b....but i guess you know your hair better than i do.
@ubergirliz1 Thanks for not telling me about my hair LOL buf what you just said is the exact myth I'm working to dispel. I know exactly what 4a hair looks like my daughter is 4a. The very tiny diameter of my curls alone make my hair nor 4a and the fact that the length of my hair zig zags and curls only towards the ends and the 4b zig zag does qualify as a curl pattern. Thanks for watching
@thelmarrie I know exactly what 4a hair looks like too, because I'm 4a. And I know exactly what 4b hair looks like because my mother is 4b. Now do you know how crazy that sounds? Just because you think you know what a certain hair type looks like means you're right? My hair has "zig zag" to the and then a curl, but that's only at the front. To me if you can see it pretty visibly than it's 4a. Not 4b. But to each their own.
@ubergirliz1 I agree. Sorry but that's defnitely not 4B hair. That's 4a. I came to get encouragement for my hair type. Guess not but your hair is the bizzomb. Very lovely.
I truly appreciate this video as I was getting a bit discouraged. I know that my journey is my own but it helps to know that your journey is very similar to mine and that I WILL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL head of hair like that. Thanks for sharing!
I agree this was very encouraging, YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS, I have 4b hair as well with dramatic shrinkage, which sometimes looks like it doesn't grow, but it does. This video was very inspirational
Bravo!!!! Loved the videoI have the same type hair and its a TWA and I have a better understanding about my hair thanks to your video! And I know what to expect as it grows so that way I will not be discouraged if I didnt see any lengthas my hair dried! Also I appears that the curl definition will become more defined as the hair grows so I am reallylookinf forwardto experiencing that as time goes by. Thanks for sharing!
I totally agree with you. 4B hair is curly. It just has a smaller curl. It's like the curl you find in an ink pen. It's small. Also my curls pop after I rinse all my conditioner out lol. It's so cute. You have to now comb your hair alot. Combing breaks up curls so just comb less. Detangle with your fingers and not the comb and your curls will pop all over the place!!!!
@potterylady1 I guess it all comes down to how you define a curl LOL (no pun intended but it was a good one anyway!). Thanks for watching and commenting!
@chanzii1 Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. No actually the curls become more defined through proper care and moisture. See my other vids for more and HHJ!
What in INSPIRATIONAL video..I am 4b (feel like 5) thick, coarse, cottoney hair with NO curl pattern i can see my hair is growing but it is SOOOOOO hard to manage. i know my hair is really dry and i am going to try to get on a moisturing routine ASAP i don't know if i believe my hair can have a really curl but after seeing this video there just may be hope for me....'
@fleesh04 Thank you so much for your kind words! Get on that moisturizing ASAP and remember it takes time and consistency so results won't necessarily be immediate. If your hair continues to be dry don't give up it just means it needs more moisture or a different product. Good luck and I'd love to hear about your progress.
Great video! My hair is just like yours, curly coils and extreme shrinkage. I use to call it 4C, but now I know it's 4B. Moisture is definitely the key because I know a lot of 4B naturals who're convinced my hair is a different type due to the curls, but I know we all have the exact same hair texture. Anyways, I'd love to see your detangling because that's something I very rarely do, with a comb, but I think if I did I'd have better twistouts. Styling videos would be great, too. :-)
@lashandar Thanks for watching! I don't do a whole lot of styling honestly. When I was younger I always wanted something new but now that I'm old and lazy LOL I pretty much stick to the same styles. If I do try something new I'll try ti remember to film it but any new styles would probably be when and if I straighten it.
@amourbrum I don't have a video since I didn't think what I do is so different from what other people do but I have actually gotten a few requests so since I need to detangle maybe I'll do one tomorrow.
Wow! Your video was really inspiring. I have been on this hair cycle (that is what I refer to it now) and have gotten so frustrated with my natural 4b hair. As soon as I put moisture in it, it sucks it all up. But, I will try to incorporate some of the hair products you are using to see if the results turn out differently.
@ludontg Thank you so much I'm glad that you found my videos helpful. Try moisturizing as often as needed. There were times I was spritzing my hair 3 tines a day. Make you a moisture spritz and make sure you give it some water everytime it feels dry. You don't have to saturate it and get it dripping wet just damp. Keep me posted!
Thanks for sharing; for real you really gave me inspiration. I am currently noticing a curl pattern since I've been moisturizing almost daily. THANKS SO MUCH!
YAY! Someone who has hair like mine! Mine isn't as long as yours yet, but I have that same curl pattern and I love it. I used to think that my hair was just "nappy" and I would rush to perm it at the sign of any wave. Now, I am educated and I don't plan on ever going back to the perm. I love my coils!
@diamondofdistinction Isn't it empowering once you know? I never thought that all those coils were hiding in that fro. I loved my fro but I love these springs even more LOL. Happy hair journey!
@thickgall LOL Shocking I know I joke that I get 99.9% shrinkage. My current length is BSB (see my length check vid) and it still shrinks to the length in this video. Thanks for watching!
@1kivakarmen Thanks for watching. Somehow I never thought I would see my name and great pic in the same sentence so guess I've gotten better LOL. Keep nurturing and moisturizing and you'll begin to see that definition!
I think curly hair on a whole has to be nutured to really see it or experience it as it was meant to to be. Dryness robs it of it's beauty and true characteristics (IMO). I do know ppl with moisturized hair (clearly) with a curl pattern so tiny and tight that you would think it's ungroomed. shingling doesn't do much to the hair type of thinking about, even over time... Not attacking, ..sorry to be annoying I'm pondering
@trevise2k Ponder away. I'm still looking for that curl pattern. Of course I haven't travelled the globe to find it LOL but just from YT and forums women who are claiming that type of hair the one's I saw were not properly moisturized. However, if you do see a curl pattern but it still looks unkempt then that is a styling issue IMO.
This is awesome! I'm a broken record at this point and it's probably just proving that hair typing is really not valid at all, but maybe what you've shown is that hair typing should really only be done (if at all) for hair that is has been properly moisturized and cared for.
This is so inspiring, I have 4b hair and It's natural…
Your recommendation is that I keep it moisturized, (to improve growth)?
Please post more videos, I would love to see your hair in 2012

However, if you do see a curl pattern but it still looks unkempt then that is a styling issue IMO.

This is awesome! I'm a broken record at this point and it's probably just proving that hair typing is really not valid at all, but maybe what you've shown is that hair typing should really only be done (if at all) for hair that is has been properly moisturized and cared for.
