this is one of the worst and most disgusting movies i have ever seen. i had to watch it in a spanish class and it was disgusting. she is sold into prostitution by her grandmother and it's pretty graphic and just a screwed up movie.
@mbray59612 I agree but keep in mind it's based on nobel prize winners Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel, "La increíble y triste historia de la cándida Eréndira y su abuela desalmada". Just so you know, as disgusting as the movie, the plays, or the novel may seem to you, stuff like that happens in the real world all the time. Art imitates life in this case and Marquez regularly borrowed ideas from real life, young women around the world still get treated like property and it is indeed, disgusting.
@mbray59612 - you are too young and inexperienced to even begin understanding what this film is about. It is a political and cultural allegory of Mexico's post-Columbian odyssey, as even a passing glance at Mexico's history will attest.
A good starting point is to see the grandmother character as Spain: proud, aloof, sorrowful and, above all else, weighed-down-with-history. A beautiful and thought provoking flim with plenty of satire and dark humor.
