This was my favorite show as a kid in australia. I was very young but it made a huge impression on me - It use to play on the ABC- I also remember both theme song versions & as someone said here singing along only to find the words changed. This version was definetly the earliest & tho I lliked muchly, the later version was the 1 for me.
I seem to remember this slower more Australian version when I was growing up. Skippy I feel, continued the Australian and Asian T.V. theme familiaratity.
I seem to remember there were two theme songs... I was very young but I vaguely remember singing along and the words had changed....anyway, it was my favorite cartoon way back then....thanks!!
wow, cool. Thanks for posting this rare gem! It's always interesting to see and hear the evolution that these old shows, opening montages and themes went through from demo thru the different seasons.
@DefconWarningSystem If you know of the English Kimba theme being released on vinyl, I would love to know the details. I have never seen such a thing. Anyway, this was indeed used on the broadcast version of the show, but not every episode. I know it was on episode 3 as shown on WDCA long ago. I also have a 16mm film (TV station copy) with this theme.
@iamstillmyself Sometimes I see cartoons were they change the lyrics on the theme song for 1 or 2 epsodes then change it back to the original song. Sometimes they would only do it for the broadcast version of those shows. I think the creators just want to see how other people think of the new song.
@iamstillmyself Exactly, yep! I went to a film presentation of this in downtown L.A. the first year of the L.A. Marathon, and this was on the film track. The episode began with the other opening music theme, and closed with this version. I have a short excerpt of this event with the extremely favorable crowd reaction somewhere... :)
@DefconWarningSystem That is a good conjecture, but I have to mention I did actually hear it used on the show, very rarely though. I was at a convention in downtown LA some 25 years ago, and we watched several Kimba episodes on 16 mm film that day. This version played during the closing credits on one of the many episodes.
This is from the first dubbing. Probably a demo version of the theme song, although I have not been able to confirm this. (They also tried editing the Japanese music into a theme; that made it to air in a couple of cities.)
I guess everyone that ends up in here is in their 40's?? I clearly remember this cartoon, along with Gigantor. So great that we can access just about anything from our distant past on YouTube!
and you would be so correct. I was just taking my 18 yo son down 70's memory lane...we started with some classic Bionic Woman 6 mil man...then to "the land of the lost" and the Kimba...I think we'll be going to some "creature feature" stuff next
i remember this cartoon growing up as a kid in manila, this is the theme song that i remember. is it true they based simba on kimba? is this a japanese anime or american? as a kid u don't really think of cartoons' origins
This was an "alternate" version of the theme {Giant-Baum-Kaye}, with different lyrics, that was rarely used during the original series...a full version of the theme, with all the lyrics, was never recorded- although an instrumental version turned up on a 'bargain album', "TV '67" {Wyncote/ 1966}.
@iamstillmyself WOW. That is exactly how I heard this version the first time I remember it, at a film screening at a convention. Thanks for having both great versions up!

This series was one of my favourites as a kid (I was born in 1966) and this is the theme I remember.
Today I bought a cheap Kimba DVD and it has a different song on it. That's how I ended up here.
Maybe here in Australia we had this theme played and the other one played elsewhere in the world?
nikkilou66 3 years ago
Interesting, It isn't often You hear this theme with the opening credits.
SimbasGuardWT 4 years ago
It was rare. On the films they showed on Ch. 20 in Washington DC, this theme was on the episode "A Human Friend" and a couple of others.
iamstillmyself 4 years ago
Interesting, I had the series on VHS and this theme was never played.
SimbasGuardWT 4 years ago
I know. I had to find an original 16mm film of the show to get this theme.
iamstillmyself 4 years ago
Wow you went to a lot of trouble.
SimbasGuardWT 4 years ago
you could have just spliced the theme song onto movie maker from a high quality multiayered dvd that had the opening clip.
but i guess ur antiqueship should be commended.
