I completely agree with you mate. Firstly, we cannot accurately predict the weather 15 days into the future, let alone years. Some policies like cleaning the ocean are necessary. But drastic changes of our life styles to fight this poorly supported theory, when we know how many humans are dying every day. People we know we can actually help.
Now I'm not claiming that I am an expert. But what I think I do know is that the theory of Global Warming is still very poorly supported. Rise in global temperatures and sea levels rising is a fear, more then a reality. Although there is some strong evidence about the Greenhouse Effect, methane for example is a stronger greenhouse gas then CO2 and is produced at a larger rate naturally. Turmites for example outweigh humans 1000:1 on the planet and produce huge amounts of methane.
So my point is more that we still do not really know. Furthermore, something we DO KNOW is that humans are dying now, today of very real and very avoidable causes! Drought, starvation, lack of the most simple medical care to name a few. Why worry about what COULD happen hundreds of years into the future when humans are dying now. Imagine yourself an average local Eithipean - would you really give a shit about global warming?

When I said "global warming is caused by us", I should have said "caused by oil a& coal companies". In fact, we're not the guilty and you're right in not supporting them because they are the only crooked culprit. There is no regulation to limit their output production. If we curl them with regulations, clean techs will have a chance to rise.
But look how much politics are involved with the global warming thing. You know how politicians work, they don't care what they support, they just want to get votes. Gore hijacked climate science and perverted it, tons of money in grants goes to scientist that go with the theory.
I wouldn't even bother about Gore perverting something or not. While we debate elsewhere, oil & coal companies "sneakishly" do what they want on our back and it has to stop. Instead of us having to feel guilty each time we make a move (like DeCaprio and Gore wants to make us feel), we must get a grip on those fuel bastards so that the amount of oil and coal they're allowed to dig drops down "significantly". Clean techs will then have a chance to rise.
But there is no reasonable alternative to coal in many developing countries. And they are prohibited from using their coal, so they cant develop, they cut down trees to burn for heat and cooking. The alarmist are causing more harm than good. And solar radiation pretty much explains what drives the earths temperature.
in these areas, it would be more a matter of birth control. The wood you can burn is much more a matter of how much people you are. Who said to you solar radiation does that? We need to make a difference guys, Ive just done a air travel sustainability project and it's shocking the amount of affects air travel is causing to our planet. Its up to us to make a difference. There is no definitive answer to the global warming. There are opinions, to be sure, but no definitive answers as to why this is occurring. We need to continue looking for answers and not get sucked into tunnel vision.
We are the issue, not climate change. Our responisibility for our actions in the "Western" World is atrocious. Designed obsolesence and mass consumerism is not aiding any good that can come in our lifetime. Do not confuse disinformation with truth. Do not fear the government, the government should fear us!
Regardless of why, if there are things man can do to better the situation, why prolong it? It's obviously occurring as we speak. To sit and go "Hmmmmm... well if we aren't responsible, why should we do anything about it?" is ridiculous.

the op isn't belittling environmentalism. global warming is a theory that is still being discussed in the scientific community, with good arguments on both sides, imo. all movements for the earth are being boiled down to a theory which may/may not be true. we should focus on problems that are clear signs of a collapse of the earth's systems/our social systems. the opinions of ppl like the op are necessary to open our minds to these problems, the undebatable sources of our earth issues.
you're an idiot. Global warming it WAS debatedin the IPCC and they came to a conclusion, with 90-99% certanty, which in the scientific community is as certain as you can get. Now I'm not claiming that I am an expert. But what I think I do know is that the theory of Global Warming is still very poorly supported. Rise in global temperatures and sea levels rising is a fear, more then a reality. Although there is some strong evidence about the Greenhouse Effect, methane for example is a stronger greenhouse gas then CO2 and is produced at a larger rate naturally. Turmites for example outweigh humans 1000:1 on the planet and produce huge amounts of methane.

Successful and rich people much like those in this video are much more to blame for this situation due to the fact that they use up more of our resources than those who are not wealthy. If their egos were not so big they might not have to live in giant mansions and own so many material possessions. And they they have the balls to tell the rest of us to give everything to help the world. Its hard to hear it sometimes.

The subject's gone quiet again lately, but we need to get carbon rationing to the centre of the debate internationally, because a legally binding cross-party global agreement on carbon rationing and contraction-and-convergence is the best suggestion so far for tackling climate change.

Explain to me how the temperature of the earth was warmer 10,000 years ago then it is today. What about the little ice age Europe had around the 1400's. How about the fact that the scientists of the late 1960 and 70's state that the earth was cooling and we are entering global cooling period. Now in the year 2000 it is global warming. For the people who believe this clap trap, why don't you go to a library, do some research on climate and find the answer for yourself.

I like the first comment. I would say we are and will be getting a lesson in devastation....regardless of origins or culpability, something is happening, and the one thing we can certainly change is ourself. This Earth we live on has a history of wiping species off the planet, so we had better get ready for a lot of work. I bet growing a tomato plant is a good thing to know how to do.

When I said "global warming is caused by us", I should have said "caused by oil a& coal companies". In fact, we're not the guilty and you're right in not supporting them because they are the only crooked culprit. There is no regulation to limit their output production. If we curl them with regulations, clean techs will have a chance to rise.

I wouldn't even bother about Gore perverting something or not. While we debate elsewhere, oil & coal companies "sneakishly" do what they want on our back and it has to stop. Instead of us having to feel guilty each time we make a move (like DeCaprio and Gore wants to make us feel), we must get a grip on those fuel bastards so that the amount of oil and coal they're allowed to dig drops down "significantly". Clean techs will then have a chance to rise.

But there is no reasonable alternative to coal in many developing countries. And they are prohibited from using their coal, so they cant develop, they cut down trees to burn for heat and cooking. The alarmist are causing more harm than good. And solar radiation pretty much explains what drives the earths temperature.

in these areas, it would be more a matter of birth control. The wood you can burn is much more a matter of how much people you are. Who said to you solar radiation does that? No one in the 900 biggest studies says that. Those guys has spent not just hours on this. Rather years, 40 hours a week. We as amateurs just can't bash that with our "gut thinking"...
There is no alternative because coal & oil has monopoly! They are the ones who must be controlled.

I don't doubt the coal and oil companies may be trying to monopolize, but in the mean time these developing countries are devasating forest and suffering a great deal. Also the birth control is relative to the poverty rate, look at any country, thats the case. You really don't know how solar radiation works? I'm not going to explain it to you because its far to easy to read up on it.

They must do as in China (birth control). Burning wood is ok as long as carbon goes in the air and gets reabsorbed by replacing trees. If the trees can't grow back because you install NEW people, only then you have a problem. See breathingearth dot net to see a visualization of this. (2nd part) We know how solar radiation works but there's very competent guys that knows for sure how CO2 interacts with solar radiation. We need to make a difference guys, Ive just done a air travel sustainability project and it's shocking the amount of affects air travel is causing to our planet. Its up to us to make a difference. I myself have no transport and walk everywhere, to Uni, to shops, and recycle, dont use plastic bags, and save energy where needed. We all can make a difference!

What is lacking is the other point of view. We've been coming out of an ice age for a few million years now and in the mid-19th century we went through a well documented Little Ice Age. There is no definitive answer to the global warming. There are opinions, to be sure, but no definitive answers as to why this is occurring. We need to continue looking for answers and not get sucked into tunnel vision.

the op isn't belittling environmentalism. global warming is a theory that is still being discussed in the scientific community, with good arguments on both sides, imo. all movements for the earth are being boiled down to a theory which may/may not be true. we should focus on problems that are clear signs of a collapse of the earth's systems/our social systems. the opinions of ppl like the op are necessary to open our minds to these problems, the undebatable sources of our earth issues.

you're an idiot. Global warming it WAS debatedin the IPCC and they came to a conclusion, with 90-99% certanty, which in the scientific community is as certain as you can get. Also, it doesn't even matter if global warming is real, that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard "everything is based on one theory". FACT (undisputed) we are losing species faster now that we ever have (i.e. we are in the most severe extinction the earth has ever seen)

I've found this is not a popular issue. Most are proned to procrastination. Many don't care unless it affects their immediate need or want. Most people are ignorant of global warming; etc. We need to get more movies out like this one to educate people. Our children deserve to have a future. Did anyone else know that according to tax records, Leonardo Dicaprio does not donate large amounts of money to any charities, an example is the $25,000 he donated in 2005, and he donated 18,000 in 2006.
He keeps a tight leash on his $, Surprisingly odd enough, Britney Spears donated over $400,000 in 2002, and $600,000 in 2005.
