  • kareem ain't that great of a dunker..

    just sayin

  • I realized not too long ago that time passes faster than we think about and that time to be spent with my parents will be more limited then realized. This song has given me more appreciation of the time I'll have with them.

"And while I am growing older you are busy growing older too...."

  • Danielle, I heard you on NPR with Helen & the Etones. You should record with them. (if you havn't already). Like all of your music.

  • You make me die inside.

  • I love this song :) I think the violin and bass really add to your music. You should really be famous... You've got the talent...

  • this is my FAVORITE song of yours!! (well this and "where the good ones go") i listen to it over and over!! i have ur CD "one bedroom apartment!! With Love, Shy ^-^

  • i really really like the harmonies in this. i love the song all together, but the harmonies are so sweet.

  • You're voice is aboslutely beautiful! I got a ukuele a lil' while ago, but I'm definetly going to try to learn your songs- they're absolutley heart-breakingly beautiful! :D

  • disliking this is factually inaccurate.

  • best song ever

  • i honestly just want to say thank you for being you

  • This made me cry, I really want to go and hug my dad now.

  • I remember seeing this in Portland, OR and sining along. Love all your stuff but this song especially :)

  • not going to lie, this is the first song that has ever left me sobbing. it hits home

  • I cried, so brilliant.

  • This was my fav song through that night in Brooklyn at the Redhorse cafe. Time flys when your having fun; you were hilarious! lol

  • I've always enjoyed listening to your stuff, was looking through videos I've hit the like button on and saw yours. Just kinda stared at my screen for a second. When I liked the video, my father was alive. Still love the song.

  • Beautiful song.

  • I was 14, 1 month ago, when I heard this song.

    My father was 45.

I drank spoiled milk that day, knowingly.

I regret wearing that pink polo.

My cat still lives to this day.

This song means so much to me.

  • Just bought the album, mostly based on this and Silver and Gold. Love your stuff, so very very much :) xx

  • @RebeckaRowan And now it has arrived and it is WONDERFUL.

  • This song is one of my favorites that you've done. I saw you at your last Denver show not too long ago and it was really epic. I bought two of your CD's which I only do with artists I relaly think are phenomenal. Keep it up Danielle, You are tremendous :p

  • whoa.....whatever sandwich youre eating, i want one! great job :)

  • Has anyone ever met an angry bass player? I don't think so. I mean, has anyone ever said, "I just got my ass kicked by one really tense, pissed off bass player!" No, never.

Bought the CD. It is great! I know that having actually bought a CD instead of just downloading the music to my iGadget marks me as a feeble, old guy, but I am okay with that. Plus, my Oldsmobuick doesn't have an iPort, so there.

  • I love that song

for this one I downloaded i-tunes and made my first online purchase

thank you for the beautiful music :)

  • im 18, and my fathers 53, one year off....

  • this song depresses the crap right out of me.

at some point ill stop listening to it

  • @mawktheone If this song depresses the crap out of you, you aren't getting it...

  • @angelicashellby It's kind of about death. I mean, death and treasuring someone while they're still alive, but if that DOESN'T depress the crap out of you, then maybe YOU aren't getting it. *kiss* It doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

  • So happy you're coming to the east coast again this fall <3 I WILL see you even if I must fend off rabid bees, angry marmosets, and local Philadelphians.

  • its all true i know it is its true i tell ya.Great vid love it

  • You need the bass more often :)

  • this song makes me cry, every time.

  • The violin adds so much!

  • I love you.

  • This is my fourth time today listening to this one. It's your best yet- super job!

  • Would that happen to be a tenor uke? Or is it a concert?

  • Love this much? Yes... Yes I do :D

  • Amazing talent, to all of you, and this is by far one of the best songs I've heard during the last 2-3 years of my life. I hope you guys get far, enjoy yourself to the most and come with more awesome songs so I can listen to you throughout many nights and days.

  • This is far from my original type of music. I'm a guy who is very critical about all music. I tend to only like music which has a very good setup. The setup between how simplistic something can be played and but yet how hauntingly beautiful it is.

This is a song which I can't seem to stop loving. The whole simplicity of the Ukulele chiming nicely under the sound of the violin which is puring so nice and over the sound of the bass humming so sweatly deep.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    You're hilarious!

The self-absorbed humor reminds me so much of America's Best Defense Against Bears: Stephen T. Colbert!

Gorgeous song, hilarious tidbits at the end.

Thanks for a lovely video, Danielle!!

    Keep eating that sandwich,

    Nate

  • Girl I love your music! I'd like to know the chords you used, i'm pretty new to this :/

  • @J3L1P3 Have you checked the doobly-doo? The info box below the video? They're posted there. Enjoy!

  • seriously, this song is so beautiful. i drove so fast and so early for mile high festival to come see you play, and i just couldnt make it in time. i was super bummed. danielle, come to gunnison! we would love to have you out here!

  • Gasp! Is that a Good Burger poster?!

  • Hey Danielle, love this song, its great. Really enjoy playing the song myself also, the chord transistion is so simple but sounds great! I was just wondering about one thing though. In the Cm to Dm transistion you seem to be using a different shape than I would usually for the Dm. It looks further up the neck. The Dm I am using sounds fine to me but I was just curious.

  • I see you got a new strap for your ukele!

  • I'm so in love with this song. Although, I'm definitley missing something because all these people are talking about the "humor" and you're saying thank you for getting it... but, I don't think that matters because it's a beautiful song no matter what :D

  • Incredible

  • Aww this song is so sad,

  • My prediction...Letterman by summer:) Come on CBS!!

  • Great CD, Danielle. I just got the other two a few days ago, so have not listened as much, but this one is sure getting a workout. If you ever make it to New Orleans, I will certainly be there.

  • lolollol the beginning sounds like that talk talk tune

  • Just WOW. The talent, the humor, the will and most importantly , the intelligence. Love your work.TheBaldMan28 (Jeff)

  • Fantas as always

  • its my dads birthday today. he is still 52 and i am now 18. thank you

  • You were seventeen the year your father died

He was fifty three when you were seventeen

I could listen to those two lines over and over again

  • I think this is my favorite

  • YOU ARE SO FANTASTIC I CANT EVEN PUT IT IN WORDS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU AND YOUR MUSIC! :DD

  • You have to tour Europe. AND don't forget to stop by Portugal. LY xx

  • my favorit song of your originals

love the music love the lyrics, it's perfect

    thank you for your magic

  • Wow, this song just hits me so hard. I absolutely adore it. You always amaze me, whether its melancholy, light and silly or whatever. T-ramendous job. :P

  • Just heard this for the first time....i have a feeling I might break the repeat button...LOVE THIS! <3 you!

  • I think this is my favourite song of yours..... along with Ode to Optophobia. Talk about contrast :)

  • love your music... good stuff!

  • I love your face.

  • Another really fun video Danielle. Always a pleasure to find a new video on your site.

  • I forget why i love you sometimes .. it's sad. but that's what videos were invented for and then i get all lovey yummy in my tummy again for you danielle. ALSO COME THE UK. sorry for shouting, you get me all excited! hey ;)

  • when i play uke, i feel like a giant, playing a normal sized guitar.

  • tenor ukulele? i love this....

  • @lukeisastalker Yep! It's a tenor Mya-Moe.

  • @daniellesmagic Mya-moe? is that the name you gave it?

  • @lukeisastalker I misread it,"terror ukulele" hahahahahahaha

  • i keep coming back to this video. i love it!

  • Wow! Danielle! You just always make me smile and laugh. Love your stuff, the music, the humor, the whole package. You rock! :) ~Julie

  • @JulieVaughn Thank you for GETTING it. So many people don't, and I'm so happy you like all of the elements!

  • @daniellesmagic I do love the song, but I don't get it. At first I thought it was you talking about your father as you were younger, then you said "I am twenty two and you are fifty three ". Is your father dead in this song or are you just saying he always lives with you? Psh, and I thought I considered myself pretty intellectual.

  • 3 people didn't eat the sandwich :(

  • I find it appropriate that when arranged alphabetically by artist my iTunes playlist places your music between "Cypress Hill" and "Daryll Hall & John Oates" (Hall & Oates)

  • bravo...magnificent....awesome...brilliant...insipiring...and well done!!...wish I had as much talent as you with my guitar playing or at least brave enough to play my music on youtube....to affraid of rejection or mockery perhaps...keep up the great song writing!

  • @tpbdragon1 Go for it! I do, and my guitar playing is pretty awful. But! You can look forward to the day when it's better and laugh at the old videos you posted :)

  • I really love this song! Good job. The bass and violin really added to it! Awesome!

    REMOODS

  • This is my favorite song of yours thus far, it really resonated with me. Love it.

  • Her voice is really sweet and the song is nice. Good musicians. Greetings from Brazil =)

  • I love this!!! When I heard a sample of it on your myspace way back, I was hoping youd put it up on youtube!!!

  • oo God! Awsome!

  • it made me cry in under a minute.

  • Great musical arrangement! More instruments/layers would add a greater degree of richness IMO, but I really like this.

  • OMG you DID put the chords in the description! I love you!!!

  • Wow, a very personal and touching song with beautifully rendered music accompanied by an exceedingly beautiful voice. I love it! :)

  • Sorry for the typos. iphone phingers;)

  • Saw you last night at the Walnut Room and this was amazing with B.A.S. backup. Thanks for lising the chords her, I was playing my uke to this song all day. I am simply amazed at the "gems" on your album. P.S., is Dennis' Bass really a double cello, a trey viola, or the ever-rare quad violin?

  • How does it feel to possess so much awesomely awesome talent of awesomeness?

  • Yo! Its grace, you talked to me the other day. :)

This is your best by far. It made me cry.

  • Looks like that Larry Groce/Mountain Stage buzz is getting your name our over the airwaves.

    Gotta love public radio.

  • I love this song so much. I can't stop listening.

  • I've listened to a bunch of your songs and I think this one is my favorite. Such beautiful lyrics, such beautiful instrumentation, such a beautiful song. Thank you for this little gift.

  • Once again great job.

  • Any chance you'll be passing through (or near) Walla Walla, Wa. on your way to the Uke Fest in Hood River?

  • Will someone tell me what this means? This is my fourth comment asking, I just wish I knew.

  • @KatieMinBam what is it that you want to know the meaning of?

  • @daniellesmagic The whole song:(

  • @KatieMinBam The lyrics are right there. :) In the nicest possible way, and in my favourite kind of song-writing, they're relatively self-explanatory.

  • @KatieMinBam im pretty sure its about her feelings following her fathers death... maybe i could be wrong

  • me gusto!!!!

  • love it

  • Seattle would love you.

  • Please come to New York, near Albany?

  • Okay, Danielle, this was the first video I saw by you. It is an absolutely beautiful song, but I just have to say... The first time I saw this, at first glance, I thought the guy in the blue was Dwight Schrute. Hahaha. Oops.

  • @littleruka ...or maybe it's a purple shirt. EITHER WAY, you know what I mean! Mmkay, I'm done now. =]

  • its amazing how much emotion you can convey through that little instrument.

  • funny stuff, but your video quality needs to be better

  • @manor1730 If you give me the money to buy a better camera, I will improve the quality for you.
