  • Take That.. of the 30s

  • Masters of comedy. They aren't slapstick like those Three Stooges hacks, they are subtler and understated. The concept of a laugh track would sicken them.

  • The only thing as enjoyable as this dance by Stan and Ollie are the wonderful heartfelt remarks by their fans; thank you.

  • Their timing is impecable in everything they do. They remind me of two feathers gently flowing in the air. Thank you.

  • Thank you ArtyCravo, THANK YOU !!!

  • At home I have the home video, but i can't see it anymore because I 've seen this part too much. So entertaining!

  • Pat Tallman sent me here. This worked a lot better than that time she asked me to check the basement in some farm house. Beautiful stuff.

  • Excellent! I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT! Thank you for the post! :)))))))))

  • Ya see that moment when Hard pushes his hat forward before he starts to dance? I have a theory that THAT is where Micheal Jackson got all the hat things that the does!

  • What can I say? only that this is to good to be real.

  • EPICCCCCCCCCCCCC

    LEGENDSSSSSSSSS

    WONDERFULLLLLLLLL

    :-)))

  • Funny to think Oliver Hardy was considered a 'fat' man back then.A big fat jolly kind of character..........now he seems barely chubby compared to all the massively fat people we see around today!

Plus he moves pretty well. Nice and graceful.

  • Move over Fred and Ginger.

  • ahhh .. the 2 genius ..

  • i was sooo long searching for this!! thaaanks

  • 0:35 Looks like he was about to cry XD

  • CREDIT CHILL WILLS.....YODELLER..........Attn buddybleau........and you really are a smart one aren`t you?

  • Could anything be more beautiful?

  • @GrantTarredus i agree,

  • Absolute classic film footage. Understated & brilliant.

  • Thank you Mr. Laurel. Thank you Mr. Hardy. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Every comedy act in history - before and after - is just a footnote to Laurel and Hardy.

  • The 500th to 'thumbs up' this video, only wish I'd done it sooner...

  • Who is the yodeler?

  • 2:40 - 2:50 looks like the soulja boy dance!

  • This dancing is better than anything on xfactor britains got talent and all talent shows in history. Fact.

  • Ricky Gervais sent me here.

  • @unclejollyroger where does ricky gervais talk about this clip? thanks

  • @tbrowniscool His Twitter feed of course. Saying so and so sent you here is a cheap way to get thumbs up.

  • OK That made my day. Wonderful :))

  • Brilliant!

  • Loved these guys since I was a kid they the best loved them singing and dancing So funny God. Bless them both they gave the world great joy.tk

  • loved these when i was little and still do

  • Commence to dancin' Commence advancin' just start a prancin' right and left a glancin' a smoochy dancin' slide and glide entrancin' You do the tango jiggle with a Texas Tommy wiggle You take your partner and you hold her lightly enfold her a little bolder just work your shoulder snap your fingers one and all in the hall at the ball thats all
  • @manclad2 Nice to see this wonderful song posted from the start and especially to see and hear Chill Wills sing and yodel.

  • This is called "The Soft Shoe Shuffle"

  • What a beautiful comedic dance..Thank You Mr.Laurel & Mr.Hardy for this wonderful moment.

  • It makes us happy!

  • Great comedy, Never gets old!

  • What a great video; thanks for posting!

  • Goodnight Stan........Goodnight Ollie : )

  • I love laurel and hardy......absolutely brilliant

  • Beautiful

  • Just out of interest; the yodelling cowboy is Chill Wills who went on to be a good friend of John Wayne and played parts in a lot of his films especially the westerns.....

  • MÉMORABLE !!!

  • You cant duplicate a duo like this ever again!!!! They were the best ever. BTW the cowboy singing and yodeling on the steps is famed actor Chill Wills.

  • Thanks for posting. I saw this dance scene with 6 other songs and wondered about the original. (loved them all!)

  • Music is absolutely amazing, hilarious as well, I would watch this every second of the day if I could.

  • Timeless comedy at it's best!

  • In the days when we only had 3 TV channels in the UK, I used to love watching Laural & Hardy films in the run up to christmas, what a treat.

I hope someone shows a clip from a film of Stan taking orders for ice cream = hilarious!

  • pure high art. Watch all the details. Watch it over and over, it only gets better. I first saw it in 1973, I fell off my chair, and it's even better now.

  • THIS is real comedy! :D

  • I agree with you @ncompasscom, and @qompth 1966 also with @anki10ful...these two...they really are funnier tha shit!

  • Wonderful, terrific, fabulous - I'm so glad these two geniuses found each other. Thanks for posting it.

  • Love u truely adoreable <3 <3

  • I just want to thank whomever put these Laurel and Hardy film on YouTube. I am an old man and wow, they sure do bring back good memories. Thank you so much.

  • @docambra No, they are not the same person. But, both are dynamite actors. I especially liked Slim Pickens in the movie, "BLAZING SADDLES"!

  • Comment removed

  • Ablute Sublime Comedy Genius, we'll never see their likes again! I've watched this since i was 8 years old and I have never tired of it since........always had a crush on the strumming cowboy (0.56 - 0.59), I guess I'll never know his name :-(

  • This is just so elegant in its simplicity!! Just 2 gentlemen who clearly earned the title of ENTERTAINERS!! Thanks for the opportunity to watch!!!

  • F A N T A S T I C I

  • Well when these guys died they took the comedy with them.... there legends... and as of todays comedians... sure they can be funny but once you watch them once you cant watch them again... these guys you can watch over and over.... and still there funny... these guys never get old... as for nows comedians they should take a leaf out of these guys books.... there are also too many romantic comedies... there should be more like this ^_^

  • Chill Wills also did the voice of Francis the Mule in all those Donald O'Connor films

  • @docambra ...... sorry, it was slim pickens who rode the bomb down to the ground... and the movie was dr. strangelove...

  • @docambra I hate correcting anyone, I am not a smartass, but it was "Slim Pickens" who rode the bomb. Think about it. Please don't take offense, none intended.

  • Wish I could find out who the other members of the Avalon Boys were besides Chill Wills. Wonder if they ever recorded anything?

  • @ArkRed1: The original Avalon Boys were Chill Wills, Art Green, Walter Trask and Don Brookins. From what I read, they were in a few movies and then disbanded. Look them up on IMDB for more info on the movies they were in during the '30s.

  • @ArkRed1: And there's a Wiki on them, as well.

  • @ArkRed1 - Google is your friend! See Wikipedia and/or IMdB for further info.

  • in this age of over size fizz n bling, how can something so simple be so joyful and evocative? it just is

  • i like the way everyone cracks up at the end of the song... ha! but i must say - that was one busy street in the old west... lot of stuff going on in the background when the boys are dancing... must have been a lot of extras on the payroll in that movie...

  • @zappafan694u Back in those days, they were never cheap on budget. It was wonderful! I'm 71 and I watched every movie they ever made. I also saw Chill Wills in many western movies.

  • @buddybleau actually, was joking when i made that comment.i'm thinking that they filmed that scene with a movie screen behind the boys showing the busy street activity behind them but, i may be wrong about this but one thing i do know for sure- the old comedy movies from back then will ALWAYS be funny i'm 53 and my dad had me watch way out west with him when i was about 5 and i've never forgotten how funny this scene is. charlie chaplin, buster keaton, harold loyd marx. bros... all great...

  • @zappafan694u Back screens were used very often back then. So I guess it could have been in that scene too.

  • The true, originial comedic geniuses. To date, no one has ever topped them. Laurel and Hardy are pure joy to watch.

  • And check out the late actor, Chill Wills, singing bass and yodeling. Thanks for posting this without screwing it up with a bunch of other BS like everyone else is doing. Too cool.

  • At last the real one.

  • Einfach die besten.....:)

Danke für all die schönen Erinerungen...

Wer zum Teufel ist "Justin" Biber....?????

  • love how they look like they've finished dancing 2:28 and then jump about the place, completely hilarious. Can't believe young people aren't interested in it JUST BECAUSE ITS IN BLACK AND WHITE! Laurel and Hardy are comedy!

  • @DrMattio I am! :D i loved this ever since i was young and watched with my grandad :) im 16 now but still such a classic set of comedy! :D

  • @SNIPERHAWK8: You're 16 now and you watched this when you WERE young? Sweetie, with any luck at all you' get to an age where 16 equates to infancy, as it should.

  • @nancyjgill lol sorry ok i meant "younger" sorry :L haha :)

  • brasil fas love laurel and hardy O gordo e o magro

  • Laurel and Hardy were no.1 for nothing !!! they were just tooooooo Funny !!!

  • simply legendary

  • The Thompson twins from Tintin have GOT to be based on these two!

  • Simply the best of the best

    This is silent comedy perfection

    Often imitated never bettered

Thanks for the post - always makes me laugh

  • @PenrytheMMJ - It's hardly "silent" comedy! The Avalon Boys pickin' & singin' are what makes the dance perfection; it wouldn't have the same effect if Stan & Ollie were unaccompanied.

  • @nancyjgill Thanks to Way Out West, this song is one of my all time faves, it's effortlessly done, sounds like a dream and the boys moves are comedy supreme

  • Commence to dancin' Commence advancin' just start a prancin' right and left a glancin' a smoochy dancin' slide and glide entrancin' You do the tango jiggle with a Texas Tommy wiggle You take your partner and you hold her lightly enfold her a little bolder just work your shoulder snap your fingers one and all in the hall at the ball thats all
  • yeah, pushing his leg down with his hand, I wonder if that inspired Michael Jackon

  • I watched it has a kid and laughed my head off im 19 now jsut start watching them again last week wasnt expecting much but its utter genius!

  • Timeless! Still as funny today as it was when I first saw it. They were a true original. Comedians are still stealing from them. Silent movies or even Talkies didn't seem to matter to them.

  • they were no.1 fo the longest time...accrording to 'Moe Howard' of the 3 Stooges !!

  • I love those guys!

  • Let's not forget all of Ollies' silly signature gestures, such as pushing his leg down with his hand (around 2:00). Absolutely brilliant.

  • Still send me a feeling of great joy! Great, great

  • They are still the best! I Love them!

  • Thanks Lee...LOVED it too....as kid was mad for them....

    Your petal:)

  • I do believe the yodeling cowboy is Chill Wills.

  • Watch it a thousand times and when you watch it the 1001st time you will STILL laugh at their antics. Undeniable comic genius sadly rare in this beautiful world. The greatest sadness for me is that Stan Laurel, who was even funnier than Chaplin, was not recognised by the British establishment with an honour. Laurel wrote most of L&H's work. I think HM Government should award him a posthumous knighthood for the joy he brought to, not millions, but billions of people.

  • Genius

  • A great classic. That's Chill Wills singing baritone.

  • As Mr. Burns from the Simpson's

    would say...EXCELLENT!!!!

  • Superb. They had funny bones.

  • way out west must be the best film ever.

  • Forever a hit.

  • It never gets old.

  • @LulaJake No. It doesn't. I love those guys.

  • the best 1 iv seen to be honust reminds me of my grampa :)

  • I don't know why, but this song popped into my head the other day- I just had to see if someone posted this on You Tube. So glad you did- Thanks so much for the original clip. L & H are the greatest comedians of all time. Thanks again for making my day!!

  • Thank you I finally found the original.

  • The best ever. Thanks for posting the full original version!

  • The best comedy duo of all time!! Thanks so much for posting this!! :)

  • Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant; unadulterated fun. Thanks for posting

  • <3 the old stuff
