I saw warren phil jimmy tear up the east coast for some thing like 5 years call it whatever WAs not the dead or philand friends all I know is warren and jimmy have pushed the thing on not just dwell in the starlight they were pushing the insumental thing to places garcia couldnt because the dynamic of those people jerry played with were different than in 2000 till 2006 they were a beastly sound jerry would have been proud they wernt copying him they were blowin the fucking doors off the box
I saw Haynes with Govt. Mule along side a highway in VA last summer, and he absolutely rocked better than anyone I have ever seen before at such a crap venue.
YO, you got Grateful Dead in my Allman Brothers! Throw in some Reeses Cups with alittle Band and you've got Watkins Glen 73! What the fuck's the matter with that??
Deadhead snotubes off roof @fun in snow/Brainslks Geronimo!!!(|;)-
Main reason I think Warren's better suited for this than most, listen to Ratdog show and try not to be put to sleep by Karan, then listen to a Phil and Friends show around 2000-2001 with Jimmy and Warren, he also penned a few tunes for them in those days. I do agree that he should scale his tone back a bit for the Dead, maybe play that Tele or his Hendrix strat he plays from time to time with Mule. That big Gibson tone is ideal for ABB but not really the Dead's sound
Warren says it himself about both the Dead and ABB "no band goes out looking to clone a missing member, they want someone to bring their personality and chemistry to the band while still paying homage to the music." Jimmy H. is up to the task too, or would you prefer to listen to Mark Karan trying to play Jerry's stuff note for note? If so have fun with that and try not to attend any of the same shows as me cuz your probably some douche that yells and sings along without knowing the words.
Warren is a top notch player and makes the rest of the band happy, but what about writing some tunes? How about getting away from hum-bucking Gibsons and play a custom guitar or a pedal steel or even a synth guitar? That would be awesome and respectful of Garcia. Jerry did much more than improvise, he also experimented with sounds and timbres and many styles of music. Warren is a real good guitar player, but I miss Jerry and beside that the current configuration just doesn't work for me.
There is no comparison to Jerry, only an idiot would compare these two guys...compare Warren to Duane Allman maybe, not JG. There can never be another Jerry, but Warren is hugely talented and did a great job at the shows I saw in Chicago last May! Furthur ain't bad either;)!!!
Hanyes does the best Jerry respect, and what i mean is he tries to emulate the jerry sound with total respect so that the fans at home that get the bootlegs can close their eyes and imagine Jerry still on stage jammin. R.I.P. Jerry you legend lives on brother. we love you..
No what he Warren was really thinking was" duhhh I hope Bob let's me carry his luggage after this concert"" and " duhh I cant wait to eat all those cheese doodles and twinkes after I have to play this jerry garcia song."
Look at this other guy on here named Gr4eful dead You went to show's in t he 80's? wow you and 100 million other people whats your point?
You were probally the guy everyone was ripping off lol the world need custys!
everyone knows jerrys shoes cant be filled and warrens not trying to fill them. he brings another form of jamming to the table. and thats a good thing.
Haynes is easily as much a pro as Jerry, just different styles, he's equally as talented and diverse. GREAT choice to share the stage with the fantastic Weir.
hey rotage you fin punk you obviuosly arent a fan and have never seen a dead show... bob weirand rat dog for ever man...... please... rotagen if you were in front of me i would punch you in the face
@liljonsp616 hey man you should just respect the music. Everyone knows Warren cant fill his shoes. And what are the kids these days supposed to look foward to? A new released album? I know that i am looking foward to more and more shows. The Dead and Further. These shows still have feeling in them
Sorry friend but theres only one grateful dead for me and thats the one with jerry singing and playing like the musical genius he was. Warren Hayes is a out of tune slob trying to make a buck so bob weir can buy another mercedes benz and maui beach house.
Its way too bad that you can't get beyond the roadblock you are at. Haynes is far from an out of tune slob as you say. He's a good musician and did a great job as a part of the Dead. Be thankful that the music the scene and the vibes are all alive in 2010. We all miss Jerry and there will NEVER be a replacement --- chill out man and try to enjoy the ride.
@liljonsp616 Look "dude", act like a REAL dead fan and shut the fuck up. Jerry was a great guitarist BUT he was also a terrible singer. Bob will be the first to admit that. Also, how dare you name call warren who, as a musician, has surpassed what many guitarists can do. "Out of tune slob?" I'm sorry but what instrument do you play? If you think you could play better then maybe you should attempt to audition next time around. Until then, shut up and respect your fellow musicians!
@m4miles You just showed why I cant stand the new dead. Your like the type of guy that has no balls and has never and will never stand for anything. Bluntly your a loser and whats wrong with everything in the world today.
@m4miles hey what the fuck ..garcia had more soul in his voice then you rver thought of having..When he was on he could rip through you..make you cry like a baby
I just got the VA run and the addition of Warren.....IN MY OPINION.......is amazing. I'm just sorry to hear all the negative bullshit that has been said of this. Just one more reason I'm glad to have an OPEN mind!!
you know its the people that argue about there sound that don't get the dead or live music for that matter. go to a show and enjoy don't search videos on youtube and bicker back and forth. oh and last time a saw gov't mule they pulled one of my friends up on stage :) she is pretty hot though and im a dude so i had to stay down in front and watch
Tough call...my choice would have to be Jeff Mattson from the zen tricksters-he even looks like a 1980 Jerry...although Warren brings some nice crescent fresh riffs!
Get a life jackasses ! Did the Allman Bros. survive after Duane Allman? Dickey Betts ? Listen to them today and "if you know anything about music", tell me they don't "Rock on" today. The chapter has closed on the "GRATEFUL" Dead and no one can ever match what Jerry Garcia brought to the band. The DEAD continues with the tradition, but with their own influence. Warren Haynes will never be a "Jerry Garcia" just as Jerry Garcia, could never be a Warren Haynes.
The greatest tribute Haynes could have done for Jerry was to learn how to play his songs. The spring tour sounded like crap. He doesn't have the chops to play Garcia's stuff.
Oh please! Do you even research or do any reading? They don't want to try to get the same sound as jerry because it would just be a joke, He's supposed to do his own thing - that's why they got him. Steve kimock could have easily done this tour and he can really pull a jerry Sound!
Are you fucking kidding me? I've followed the dead since 1980! There is no more Jerry Garcia so you gonna have to fucking deal with it - The band likes Warren and so do I. I've seen every - yes every - Spectrum show from 1980 on to his last in 95. I even saw the The dead play there, He does well as a jery - but he's not trying to copy jerry, He adds his own twist, He adds what he is good at which is blues.
He doesn't copy Garcia's style because he can't. He's never ventured out from anyhting but "boogie blues". He doesn't get the blugrass, jazz, MoTown, folk, funk influences that make that music unique.
The only reason he was on the tour is because "The Dead w/ Warren Haynes of the Allman Bros." Puts more people in the seats than "The Dead w/ Joe Unknown"...Even though there's a lot of "Joe Unknowns" out there that can play that music 1000 times better than Warren.
Warren Haynes was a great choice. I'm so pleased. I saw him with Phil Lesh & Friends 5/29/99 Mountain Aire and they did an insanely awesome version w/ space of She Said, She Said. He definitely brings plenty of talent to the party.
I saw The Dead three times and have listened to every show - I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job than he did taking on the tremendous weight of filling Jerry's spot. When he played China Cat using the slide at Shoreline he seemed to be saying, 'I am not Jerry, but I can pretty much do anything with this guitar.' Warren is king!
@harbmx23 WARREN HAYNES YA FUCK TOOL!!!!!!!!!!!do some research before ya blab ya mouth!!!warren is a fucking legend.Garcia is dead!he can't play anymore!!!deeerrrrrrrr!!!!!!!
Wow!Three times!Your probably one of the little jack off's that stop me from going to shows after15 years! Thanks.

WOW all I can say is this
,,and this boys is why the women are smarter,
1)Jerry did at one time have a beautiful voice(I started seeing the band in76)I noticed his voice getting bad the end of the 80's.
2) WARREN IS An awesome PLAYER,Has never claimed to be Jerry, but does a good job in providing the MAGIC ,IN THE DEAD,ALLMAN BROS AND GOVT MULE
3)Why must u guys fight over it Jerry is dead and misses but THE BAND TO SOME DEGREE DOES keep playing on which I am Grateful for.
