What have I been missing!!! This is a marvellous singer with a delightful voice and fantastic technique !!! From now on, I will follow her career attentively and respectfully. Bravissima !!!
So easy and natural! I don't even care that she ducks half the high notes. Probably the best version I've heard (with the possible exception of the VERY young Agnes Baltsa), and I've heard 'em ALL.
I believe Tuva is the singer of lascia ch'io pianga from the movie The AntiChrist. This lady truly has a brilliant voice and perfect interpretation of classical pieces, I'm surprised that she is not more famous. When she sings it gives me goosebumps!
@JohnofDublin: I agree she has a beautiful voice and her interpretation of the classics is brilliant. Her lascia ch'io pianga is one of the best interpretation of this beautiful aria I've heard. I wish she had not taken this beautiful aria and allowed it to be associated with this hedious film. A pity for Handel that she did. Maybe that's the reason she is not as world famous as she should be.
Obviously a very talented young singer. She reminds me of von Stade in a few places ... and in this opera, as far as I am concerned, there's no praise higher than that. I adore her phrasing at 1:27.
Tuva has a "sweetness" in her voice that is not present in the crazy overly-intense version of this aria sung by Bertoli- Bertoli has wonderful technique - but her acting and presence are overboard - too intense - she makes the title character seem crazy and unlikable. Tuva's interpretation draws a person in by her sweet face and heavenly voice.
ok for you not for me...beatiful voice but any more, in Rossini (the 'canto di bravura')... and final of aria is not correct... i'm sorry....de gustibus non disputandum est...
She's just as wonderful without the mike and has no problem reaching the far corners of either the Copenhagen Opera or the Old Stage at the Royal Theatre :)
I like the relaxed feeling at the concert..the men not wearing a tie or a jacket ( the chorus)..The speed is great and the accelerando of the orchestral coda is a gresat idea..
I was there...It was fantastic...and all of the performances was live....to bad they don't do them in "Søndermarken" anymore because of the animals:-(
I was there! Well ... not exactly: I was there when the performance was repeated at a place called Skamlingsbanken. It was pouring with rain some of the time, but we didn't care!
I love watching this video. The joy of Rossini seems to "infect" everyone: the conductor who is practically dancing, the smiling members in the audience , the spirited singers. Wonderful music in a beautiful setting. I would've loved to have been there.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Unfortunately, Semmingsen belongs to the category closet mezzos - In this perf. she has the orchestra behind her and microphone - in Copenhagen, at the Opera house, I thought she was miming. Her tiny voice could not survive an orchestra larger than a string quartet.
Might that possibly be because she *was* miming? For three out of eight performances of Partenope, she was dubbed from the orchestra pit by Trine Bastrup Møller. Just wondering... ;)
It's sad there are still people who think enormous volume makes the singer/musician. Sad, really sad.
Besides, I saw Tuva 5 times with Scholl. In Cesare she was stunning, grand voice, I sat in the balcony and could hear her perfectly. In Partenope she was sick (as the rest of the cast), every night of performance there was another protagonist miming his/her part due to a bad flu. There was a curse on the production. Anyway, she is a wonerful singer.
I think that's largely because of the fact that there is no such thing as the 21st century's dramatic coloratura, at least not yet.
We aspire for larger voices, not necessarily to sing large Wagner, for we do have Wagnerian singers, but to sing Bel Canto and the verismo repertoire.
I'm sure no one can name a large voice which can infuse the large power of a dramatic role into a coloratura role which is currently still on today's stage.
No I meant the fact causes stereotypical resentment towards mezzos and sopranos with small voices. Like people do to Sumi Jo, who doesn't deserve that kind of criticism after such a lengthy and illustrious career.
Great rendition! I personally like Rossini only if sung by great baroque singers like Tuva, Vivica Genaux, Joyce DiDonato, Anna Bonitatibus. I mean this very exact and clear distinction between the notes. This is so much more thrilling to me than sung by singers who slide a bit over the notes.
PS: If the mentioned singers do sing baroque, I find it even more thrilling, but that's personal ;-)
Haha, I totally agree as to the pleasant sound *cough cough* ;-)
Yes, and the coloratura here is breathtaking and perfectly sung. Perhaps my fav aria outside baroque. But the whole Cenerentola opera, well, I always wait and wait and wait for the finale to get my bravura satisfaction.
That she does, but it takes so much work (BESIDES talen) and how may people know that. She must have poured her heart and soul into her work for years; and yet she looks so young. Do you know how old she is? I wonder.
