  • She's amazing!!

  • My favorite voice!! Probably my fav video on utube ever!!

  • She is one of the most underrated sopranos I have ever heard, she should sing at the met and la scala. Why is she so relatvely unknown?

  • amazing!!!

  • I discovered this beautiful lady a couple of minutes ago and wow....

  • Tuva's singing is beyond beautiful, brilliant!!!!l

  • What have I been missing!!! This is a marvellous singer with a delightful voice and fantastic technique !!! From now on, I will follow her career attentively and respectfully. Bravissima !!!

  • Brava brava ma veramente brava !

  • So easy and natural! I don't even care that she ducks half the high notes. Probably the best version I've heard (with the possible exception of the VERY young Agnes Baltsa), and I've heard 'em ALL.

  • I believe Tuva is the singer of lascia ch'io pianga from the movie The AntiChrist. This lady truly has a brilliant voice and perfect interpretation of classical pieces, I'm surprised that she is not more famous. When she sings it gives me goosebumps!

  • @JohnofDublin

You are absolutely right about Antichrist - I have a vid of it on my channel (among about 50 other Tuva-vids)

  • @JohnofDublin: I agree she has a beautiful voice and her interpretation of the classics is brilliant. Her lascia ch'io pianga is one of the best interpretation of this beautiful aria I've heard. I wish she had not taken this beautiful aria and allowed it to be associated with this hedious film. A pity for Handel that she did. Maybe that's the reason she is not as world famous as she should be.

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Wow! Gorgeous rendition!

  • Obviously a very talented young singer. She reminds me of von Stade in a few places ... and in this opera, as far as I am concerned, there's no praise higher than that. I adore her phrasing at 1:27.

  • Oh. My. God. I am in love with this woman! Just discovered her by chance for the first time today!

  • Bravi, brava cenerentola so natural

  • Wow, she's really good! This aria is sooo difficult, and she nails it without any difficulty. Brilliant!

  • This is a perfect, flawless performance.

What I want to know is, who is that moron that gave this video less then five stars?

Excelente produccion!!!

  • Love Love love Tuva - and the conductor is adorable and everyone looks as though they are really enjoying performing with Tuva - beautiful

  • Tuva has a "sweetness" in her voice that is not present in the crazy overly-intense version of this aria sung by Bertoli- Bertoli has wonderful technique - but her acting and presence are overboard - too intense - she makes the title character seem crazy and unlikable. Tuva's interpretation draws a person in by her sweet face and heavenly voice.

  • ok for you not for me...beatiful voice but any more, in Rossini (the 'canto di bravura')... and final of aria is not correct... i'm sorry....de gustibus non disputandum est...

  • this is so beautiful--- thank you for sharing.

  • Very beautiful...Semmingsen, very lovely.

  • .... heavenly..... and you should hear her sing jazzz..... yes.. also a heavenly jazz singer......

  • I'm lucky to have the opportunity to hear her sing jazz in just two weeks. She'll be backed by a big band and I can't wait :)

  • Which one?:)

  • "The Orchestra" :-)

  • Oh - they're very good!

  • nooo i think that she is good......she has a perefect coloraturas she is very good....when you are to talk please study sing for do it...please

  • *droooooooooooooooool*

    This ... is.... so.... goooood.

  • Brava! Brava!

  • Great!!! I love it!!! Excellent coloratura!!!

  • she didnt omit any high notes.

  • Tha fact that she doesn't Screams her high notes like an hysterical woman, doesn't mean that she sounds artificial!!!!!!

In any case it shows how great singer she is.

  • Actually, its supposed to be a coloratura contralto show piece.

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? get out of here. This a liryc mezzo repertoire

  • this is a mezzo coloratura piece, i dont think you know what youre talking about

  • theres not anything sloppy, the coloratura is very clean.

  • The best version I've ever heard! Just awesome, thanks!!!

  • Very well articulated!!!!!!!!! I wonder what she sounds like unamplified?

  • She's just as wonderful without the mike and has no problem reaching the far corners of either the Copenhagen Opera or the Old Stage at the Royal Theatre :)

  • I like the relaxed feeling at the concert..the men not wearing a tie or a jacket ( the chorus)..The speed is great and the accelerando of the orchestral coda is a gresat idea..

  • Great Non piu mesta with wonderful Tuva Semmingsen!

  • I hope house-cleaning came in right after this so sweep all those aspirated H's off the stage.

  • one word...WOOW :D

    icredible singing!

this is "her" aria indeed....very easy sung, incredible coloradura and pure timbre, both in up and down....

    LIKE IT! :DD

  • I think I am starting to like Rossini. This is a new departure for me...

  • wonderful!!!

    thank god for youtube.

i can discover so much things there

  • my god, she is the best cenerentola!

  • es una peeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa que maravillosaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah, by the way, I liked Tuva Semmingsen very much, didn't know her.

  • I was there...It was fantastic...and all of the performances was live....to bad they don't do them in "Søndermarken" anymore because of the animals:-(

  • I was there! Well ... not exactly: I was there when the performance was repeated at a place called Skamlingsbanken. It was pouring with rain some of the time, but we didn't care!

  • I love watching this video. The joy of Rossini seems to "infect" everyone: the conductor who is practically dancing, the smiling members in the audience , the spirited singers. Wonderful music in a beautiful setting. I would've loved to have been there.

  • Might that possibly be because she *was* miming? For three out of eight performances of Partenope, she was dubbed from the orchestra pit by Trine Bastrup Møller. Just wondering... ;)

  • It's sad there are still people who think enormous volume makes the singer/musician. Sad, really sad.

Besides, I saw Tuva 5 times with Scholl. In Cesare she was stunning, grand voice, I sat in the balcony and could hear her perfectly. In Partenope she was sick (as the rest of the cast), every night of performance there was another protagonist miming his/her part due to a bad flu. There was a curse on the production. Anyway, she is a wonerful singer.

  • I think that's largely because of the fact that there is no such thing as the 21st century's dramatic coloratura, at least not yet.

We aspire for larger voices, not necessarily to sing large Wagner, for we do have Wagnerian singers, but to sing Bel Canto and the verismo repertoire.

I'm sure no one can name a large voice which can infuse the large power of a dramatic role into a coloratura role which is currently still on today's stage.

  • this is not a dramatic role, its a coloratura contralto/mezzo role

  • No I meant the fact causes stereotypical resentment towards mezzos and sopranos with small voices. Like people do to Sumi Jo, who doesn't deserve that kind of criticism after such a lengthy and illustrious career.

  • Ran into her in "Giulio Cesare" with Scholl, and I was really blown away. She's fabulous here as well!

  • Great rendition! I personally like Rossini only if sung by great baroque singers like Tuva, Vivica Genaux, Joyce DiDonato, Anna Bonitatibus. I mean this very exact and clear distinction between the notes. This is so much more thrilling to me than sung by singers who slide a bit over the notes.

PS: If the mentioned singers do sing baroque, I find it even more thrilling, but that's personal ;-)

  • I'll take pretty much *anything* if the singer's able to flash coloratura skills like these ;-)

In this case there's the added bonus of the sound itself actually being pleasant (*cough* Bartoli, I'm looking at you :D).

  • Haha, I totally agree as to the pleasant sound *cough cough* ;-)

Yes, and the coloratura here is breathtaking and perfectly sung. Perhaps my fav aria outside baroque. But the whole Cenerentola opera, well, I always wait and wait and wait for the finale to get my bravura satisfaction.

  • Still awesome this time! Can anyone tell me what the title means in English, particularly the word "mesta"?

  • Non piu mesta means something like 'no more sadness/sorrow'

  • Thank you

  • Magnifique! She is the most beautiful of all Opera Female singers, she´s my Platonic Love.

  • beautiful!!!! i love her voice, it's stunning. i liked how they had the quartet in front too, that added some excitement to the performance. bravo!

  • brava ma preferisco cecilia bartoli almeno in quest'aria

  • hai ragione

  • I'm not really a fan of bel canto in general or Rossini in particular, but this is amazing! I keep listening to it over and over.

    Thanks for this!

  • Since the first time I happened to listen Tuva on this video I just have to hear it indefinitely.

  • wow. She was excellent!!! gave me goose bumps all the way through...

  • WONDERFULL -- so fresh and vivatious that I have to listen to this piece repeatedly---

  • il direttore è un ganzo!

  • Such a wonderful, natural, refreshing rendition. I hear it every day. Thanks.

  • I hear it 10 times/days...:-)

  • I'm in Love with Tuva...

  • Dolce...dolcissima voce....brava!!!!!!!!!

  • She reminds me so much of Leslie Caron, I'd love to see her in a production of Cenerentola modeled after Caron's film "The Glass Slipper."

  • That she does, but it takes so much work (BESIDES talen) and how may people know that. She must have poured her heart and soul into her work for years; and yet she looks so young. Do you know how old she is? I wonder.

  • Good! you do that, and would you let me know when you post it?

  • It'll be late August/early September, probably. The concert is in August and the taped version is usually broadcast a week or two afterwards

  • I saw her sing this role with Glyndebourne on Tour in Edinburgh. I was expecting to see Christine Rice and had never heard of Tuva Semmingsen before. She was really great

  • She is so good :-)

and she makes it looks so easy

  • Nice at last to see Tuva on YouTube have you anything from the 2004 open air concert.

  • She's also in the Giulio Cesare production as a boy, Sesto (on YouTube) if you're interested.

  • Unfortunately there's not really much else worth uploading from Denmark's Radio's broadcast of the show - they have a habit of intersecting performances with interviews, which sort of ruins it. I think this was Palle's only 'solo' performance, btw. I'll parse it again, but for now only this and Andreas Scholl made my cut :)

  • Yah, I saw that. Awsome! but isn't he generally so?

  • Thanks, her singing is so enjoyable. Please do upload something from Palle Knudsen, too, I liked him so much in GC.

  • Best Cenerentola Ever!!!
