  • Coldplay wrote a letter to ask kraftwerk if they could use the music.

  • cold play copies .. like Gaga copies Madonna .. anyone who is musically inclined can hear it .. ahhh so could a mentally challenged individual .. Coldplay has done too many times ...

  • This was well known.. I love Kraftwerk and I knew it directly

    Still I love Coldplay reinterpretation

  • i just makes me laugh being an 80`s bloke seeing the "new wave 90`s " asking permission to use the tunes from 80`s ,goes to show friggin 80`s rule lol

  • umm im srry to be a douche to all the hipsters but who even knows who kraftwork is? like the only reason im here is cuz of CTFxC

  • kraftwerk won.coldplay is good too,but kraftwerk is law.

  • Coldplay do good music only for POSER

  • COLDPLAY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Ive been listening to the new DJ. What's all this "original" con. We all live in the same museum, we all re arrange the same old song." ~Gary Numan (my breathing)

  • Coldplay received their permission to use this song and credit them in the album sleeve

  • I prefer Kraftwerk's but Coldplay did a nice job

  • In the album cover art it's written about that melody...that's what happen when people download mp3 instead of buying the cds...

  • Coldplay had permission of the original authors

  • Did you record this off the radio onto your phone?

  • ...always knew THIS was a KRAFTWERK rip!... ~Not cool.

    P.S. --thumbs down!

  • Comment removed

  • Viva la Vida is also a tribute to Joe Satriani ?????,....pleassseeeee,...Coldplay are just a plagiarist ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • If you cannot hear any similarities in this you should get your head out coldplays ass and start listening to something else...Because this is the exact same... thumbs up if you are watching this with at least an open mind.

  • "Coldplay received permission from the electronica band Kraftwerk to use the main riff from their song "Computer Love" for "Talk", replacing Kraftwerk's synthesizers with guitars."

  • i pressed dislike because i dislike coldplay. but i loooove kraftwerk

  • Oh well they got permission or so I was told. My argument is invalid.

  • Fuck man. These guys are thieves..

  • They didnt just take the lead hook, they also took the bass line. listen to the bass line about half way through computer love and compare with the bass line on talk.

  • yes

  • coldplay copying bastards like most in the music business

  • coldplay just stole another tune from joe satriana!!!!!!

  • horrible tribute, horrible song

  • @spewhunt beautiful song :D

  • Nice try, but Kraftwerk is clear

  • To those who discount the process of creative collaboration, I say this: If we wrote every song with notes never played, every book with letters never used and spoke every sentence with words never uttered-- yes, we would qualify as "original" by your definition. However, we would also live in a world devoid of the arts, the sciences, and law. By your own standards, you'd be terribly unoriginal yourself: many like you have come before you and many are yet to come. Allow me to plagiarize: :-)

  • @stex5131 Yes true, but in this case the plagiarism is pretty obvious.

  • @Guilthas Please, enlighten us: how exactly is the plagiarism pretty obvious? IF (1) plagiarism is to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, i.e. the use (of another's production) without crediting the source (m-w.com); AND (2) Chris Martin expounded on using the riff here: contactmusic. com/news-article/martin-sent-kraftwerk-begging-letter ; THEN (3) using of the riff =/= plagiarism. QED.

  • @entreprenizzle If the tune is exactly the same it's plagiarism.

  • @stex5131

    They're still twats.

  • Who cares if they asked??? They still didn't CREATE IT! Anytime they try to break from their co-linear sound, they have to borrow... Because they suck.

  • @CMac1980z lol jealous troll is jealous

  • Of the two, Kraftwerk would always come out on top, though I quite like Coldplay's "structure" (Verse, chorus, etc.).

  • Both did a great job with this song. BBUUTT I like Kraftwerks version better because it is the true meaning and the way it is mean to be and Colplay did kind of kill it but I like them both so yeah poeple.

  • Fuck this Coldplay fucked this entire song up they prolonged every note and took out the digital sounds that sucks I'm not hating on the entire band and their music but they seriously fucked this song up

  • They didn't steal but they suck, not even able to great their own music pfff Loosers !

  • "YES" was all the hand written note said after cold play asked permission to use the melody. speaks volumes about Kraftwerk's character and love for music.

  • These are both great bands. If they share some of the same notes, so what! Anyone can electronicaly forge and mix music to sound similar anyway, it's been done before. These are both very unique and great bands, why attempt to diminish them.

  • Colplay pidio permiso para usar esa melodia

  • @terminaldeity coldplay has lots of original songs. Violet hill, strawberry swing, moses, etc. but nobody sees good things when they only think about the bad things people do. You can't love two things, if you are not open for it. It is sad you are not open for anything more then one thing. Life is about comparing and stand open to new things. You can't desparately hold on to one thing all the time

  • @elvengarda

Clearly the concept of exaggerating for effect is lost on you. Are you unfamiliar with the allegations of plagiarism? Do you not understand cynical humor?

  • Hey, at least they got permission this time. I'm starting to wonder if Coldplay has ever written an original song.

  • @terminaldeity Of course they have original songs, like Viva La Vida, Clocks, Strawberry Swing, The Scientist, Sparks, Lost!, Lovers in Japan, Daylight, Amsterdam... Can I continue?

Just do your homework, Coldplay asked for Kraftwerk's approval, and they said "yes" to Coldplay ;)

    Best regards from Peru!

  • @sodaxp

Homework? Hahahaha. As if knowing a few singles from one of the most popular bands in the world constitutes 'homework.'

  • @terminaldeity hahaha Nope, I don't mean to search for singles, but to search for the fact that Coldplay asked for Kraftwerk's approval to use part's of their song "ComputerLove" in Coldplay's song "Talk", just that.

It's sad to see that a lot of people like you don't like to search first, and prefer to say prejudices, often misinformed. That's the homework people need to do :D

    Best regards from Peru ;)

  • @sodaxp

Duhhhhh, that's why i said "at least they got permission this time."

Obviously, i was inferring about the legal use of the sample in contrast to previous songs which they've been accused of plagiarizing. You are seriously dense if you didn't pick up on that from the start.

  • Comment removed

  • @SuperiFox That's interesting. Please give me one example where Kraftwerk ever sampled another artist?

Sampling didn't even exist when they were creating their art throughout 1970s and early 1980s.

Not dissing Coldplay by the way, and I quite like their use of this Kraftwerk tune.

  • Coldplay munches anus

  • If the young dont know the past then they give credit coldplay.

But truth will always be the truth

  • lol ok...sooo... i'm a dj and i can't help but say -absolutely shocking crossover at the end. hahaha

  • kraftwerk version (the original) is way better!

  • @pinko1975 computer love is a great song, but we are talking of worlds, genres, years completely differents. I love both songs

(Amo Kraftwerk, e amoo Coldplay...e amo as 2 músicas de ambos...=D)

  • kraftwerk = one of the most sampled bands of the world. don't be suprised if you actually can find one or two examples xD

i like both bands. but kraftwerk has an epic bonus for the innovativity and uniqueness.

  • rob send me here!! :D

  • @dulzejonas SAME!

  • haah guys, this piece of paper will be worth a lot some day

  • licensed use ≠ stolen

  • Kraftwerk actually sewed coldplay

  • @DHLHC That is not true. Coldplay recieved their permision

  • @ReticentArc Very true, They wrote Kraftwerk a letter asking to use the riff. And apparently got a letter back from Kraftwerk which simply said one word: Yes.

  • @DHLHC spell im pretty sure you cant "sew" and actual person...

  • aun asi q chafa

    eso de fusilarse los rifffffssssss

    me kedo kn krafwerk

  • coldplay appeals more to the younger generation, i mean kids today don't wanna see 4 bald guys acting like robots or singing about some "autobahn" lol...

don't get me wrong, Kraftwerk along with Stereolab are my favourites.

  • @kelloggcerealxoxo the younger generation does f*cking want to you f*cking f*ckface.

  • @NieIs68 fuck you nazi

  • @kelloggcerealxoxo racist calling every russian or german a nazi i hope you know Kraftwerk is a german band

  • Kraftwerk are the best. Coldplay sucks... its a cheap kopie of Kraftwerks Computerlove... whta for a shit of music....

    Kraftwerk are the bests.

  • alexander balanescu eats them both for breakfast.

  • I don't think sound quality gets much worse than this. Sorry.

  • Kraftwerk will win sorry coldplay rules though

  • knn all of u no brain isit or u listen to too little songs ar doncha noe that now almost all songs have tunes here and there that sound the same from another song i know of alot of examples liao

  • Has Coldplay pay Kraftwerk for this copy?

  • yes they do

  • I do not know for a fact that Coldplay paid them royalties, but I do know that they had their permission, so chances are they did.

  • I prefer the Kraftwerk original production of this. I can understand why cold play wanted to basically 'cover' it, its a great track. Oddly cold play here have the far better 'sounding' sample thus distorting the comparison a bit. It needs re-doing with samples of equal quality.

  • very true.

  • its a tribute, coldplay isnt taking anything. person who put this up is dumb. nothing to prove..everyone knows its a kraftwek cover/tribute.

  • @bohemiandaisy9 It's a real tribute if they paying kraftwerk for it otherwise it's stealing. If you don't agree, give me your bankaccount-details and I will rob your money as a tribute to you. :)

  • wtf is going on in the end? lmao

  • typo. you meant shittier.

  • sounds sorry haha

  • lol was a good idea bud but the comparison just don't work, and anyway,

Anyone who likes thier frafty beats know that there are no comparisons Kraft Werk influenced an entire generation of the planet,

    Good effort though

  • Kraftwerk obviously had this first but gave coldplay permission to use the tune.

  • cold play asked permission to use this melody. they sent a letter to kraftwerk's studio asking if they could use the melody from computer love for this song. kraftwerk replied simply with the word "yes" handwritten on a piece of paper.

  • @slackdave

No, Kraftwerk made this song back in 1981.

Coldplay asked for permission to use it, just like prickerbush said

  • dammit now I have to replace all my Coldplay records.

  • haha gotta love those guys

  • @prickerbush

    serious ?

  • @prickerbush whatever

  • @prickerbush That's not right. As said by Coldplay' singer, they called the KlingKlang Studio in Germany and asked Ralf Hutter directly if they could use the riff. He said yes.

  • @prickerbush haha! Would have loved for it to say 'if you must'

  • @prickerbush yeah you're right!!!! and SHUT UP YOU FUCKERS... WHY DON'T ACCEPT THAT COLDPLAY MADE A GREAT WORK WITH THIS RIFF? I KNOW THE ANSWER: CAUSE YOU'RE NOT CAPABLE TO SAY THIS... YOU ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE THE CRAP THAT THE POP SINGERS MAKE TODAY.

  • I knew I heard a similarity!

  • The question is soon going to become - "Who DIDN'T Coldplay rip off.

  • Oi like coldplay arent plaigerising the riff at all. They used it with permission and have openly admitted about using it. All musicians take ideas off other musicians. That's just something that happens

  • I am glad other people have noticed this. I hate the way that Coldplay act like they are well original and then they blatently go and use other peoples riffs.

    ppppffffftttt

  • so bad that there are a lot of stupid people that judge and talk, but they don't even know what they're talking about...

  • OK. Surely it's a great thing that Coldplay have used Kraftwerk's riff for "Talk"? I mean, let's face it, it's not like Kraftwerk are the most current band, so Coldplay are just bringing some old music back from the 80s. Kraftwerk should be honoured, people only decide to cover singles or riffs when they're good.

  • Uh. Surely it's not a great thing. There's a huge difference between covering and plagiarism. Coldplay is just a shitty band that can't right hits without using other people's songs

  • C'mon people, do some research. Coldplay didn't "steal" this from Kraftwerk, they asked permission to use the riff and Kraftwerk obliged.

  • yeah can't see how hard it is to go "Google - Coldplay Talk Wiki" USE WIKI FOR GOD SAKE PEOPLE

  • I prefer my sources verified. Peace.

  • why do talk about it as if hes one person. coldplay is a band. and they got permission

  • Bands (term used very loosely in terms of coldplay) have every right to pay tribute to other music, however they could at least give it the credit. I've never heard them give any credit to Kraftwerk

  • Would you have listened to Kraftwork's song if Coldplay hadn't stolen it? There's their credit.

  • Well yes, I first heard Computer love back in the 80's.....

  • I did.

    I grew up on Kraftwerk.

  • Don't be a wanker WolfDevastator

  • Poor Chris...... what's that written on your hand? Ah, I can see it now "Fake"

  • I think it's awesome that Coldplay would play such a tribute to Kraftwerk. So much about modern music stems from the experimental sounds of Kraftwerk, and it's awesome to see fans and creators remember their roots.

Of course, no one can play Kraftwerk like Kraftwerk themselves :)

  • ^Trufax :P

  • Computer World is one of the best albums ever.

  • I don't need coldplay to help me understand how good Kraftwerks music is and has always been ; ) If you don't know- GET A CLUE!!!

  • Lets face-it people.Kraftwerk has never seen the light of day comercially,so when Kraftwerk fans, like myself and many others hear the coldplay lift it's like- WTF!!! Does anyone make their own ideas anymore??!!

  • por acaso o som é creditado ó anormal.

  • This is legal, but KRAFTWERK still pwns Coldplay.

  • Owned and Sold!!! ; )

  • i noticed this too

  • what crappy quality audio this has

  • The ignorance of some people is just truly astonishing. Coldplay asked to use the riff, and kraftwerk said sure. End of story.

  • K PEOPLE.. COLDPLAY SAMPLED THE SONG THEY DIDNT STEAL IT.. just shut up about it already both of the bands are awesome, and coldplay liked the song by kraftwerk, so they got PERMISSION to sample it.. jeez stop hating on coldplay seriously

  • wow you people are dumb, this happens all the time.

  • coldplay are totally not awesome

  • Coldplay did not only copy the main melody, but they copied all the chord progressions as well. Apart from the lyrics-which really are not very good-there are no other elements written by Coldplay except for the title.

    KRAFTWERK > coldplay

  • no one likes coldplay?

    hahahahahahah

  • my brother who hacked my account to write that comment, isd this contagious laughter?

    hahahaha

  • KRAFTWERK > coldplay

  • "The band received permission from the electronic music German band Kraftwerk to use the main riff from their song "Computer Love" (German: Computerliebe), from their 1981 studio LP Computer World (German: Computerwelt), for "Talk", replacing Kraftwerk's synthesizers with guitars."

  • OMG! everyone is so confused. COLDPLAY WRITES THEIR OWN MUSIC. sometimes people cover songs and takes only the tune, not the lyrics!

they just didnt give the credit, so stop hating on coldplay! it was all a misundertanding.

  • Coldplay is still weak urine.

  • The point isn't that it is legal... the point is Coldplay needs to write there own stuff. It might end up shitty but I'd more respect them.

  • The use of the riff is TOTALLY legal! Stop discussing stupid things.

  • the point is that coldplay DID NOT make it. fullstop.

  • they got permission

    it's legal

    they didnt steal it

  • Kraft Werk > cold play

no need for any more of this nonsence.

the math has been done for you.
