I've always hated how the post-chorus riff ("you've got me in your spell, trying to leave but you know darn well") is never played the same as on the album live. It's one of the coolest chord progressions in the song, and in live versions, they do something different for no apparent reason.
I love OYFOOYK, but even that recording is an offender...
Love this song. I just saw BOC live on friday and they put up an amazing show. After they were done the crowd begged for an encore and they played this badass song. Its stuff like this that Heavy Metal finds its roots in.
The origianal 5 need to get back together and record one more album and tour. Drop these three douchebags, they are simply embarrasing. BOC songs sound terrible live with that superlow bass drum, that drummer should have Alberts and Rick downeys drumsticks up his ass
Well, I saw the Cult last May (2010) and they were great, even though the set was a little short... one amazing thing about the performance was that Richie mimics Buck's guitar style VERY EFFECTIVELY when he takes some of the leads... that impresses me!
Buck Dharma said recently that there may be some new stuff released next yeaer, for download only though. This info comes from John Shirley, who has written lyrics for BOC in the past.
This info comes from the Facebook page on Blue Oyster Cult, on which someone posted a question asking whether the band are ever likely to record again. John Shirley, a former BOC lyricist, then answered saying that he had received an email from Buck confirming that the band are thinking of releasing some material this year for download only as there is no recording contract. I have'nt heard anything since though.
Its nice to see young people into BOC,they been out on the since the 70's.Listen to Shooting Shark,Bucks Boogie, they used to hang out by my house on Long Island while they were students at Stonybrook University[Don Roeser AKA Buck Dharma attended
It is hard to sing and play bass, especially when it's not a "walking" bass line. But if Joe endorses it, that's enough for me.. I presume 1277 express to heavan is the nyc subway?
Buck is great, as usual, but the lead vocals are waaaay to wimpy compared to how Joe Bouchard used to do it. Richie is a great musician, but singing rough is not his forte. Also, the chorus seems to drag just a bit; having said that, it's probably impossible to top the out of control version from OYFOOYK.

What a refreshing version of this BOC's heralding song, which is delightfull to play with a band. BOC is all art and therefore eternal.

Wait a minute! Isn't this Joe Bouchard's song?
ih8tbush 3 years ago 3
Sure is.
Even Joe said Richie does a fine job doing his song.
Joe said it's so hard to sing and play bass at the same time with this one.
Richie switched to guitar but still a hard song to do.
