  • God Bless U REMO FERNANDES

All goans r there with u Always.....!!!!!!!!

  • Remo Fernandes , everytime i have visited GOA i have listened to your music all over GOA.

You seem to be a great guy, so much love for your country unlike the corrupt Goan politicians all out to cheat and loot lovely GOA. Keep up the great work- GOD bless you, GOD bless GOA.

  • @KeepBritainClean Thanks very much indeed for your good words. I can see from your YouTube name that you too work for the good of your own country. Keep up the great work! And who knows, maybe we could think of a way to collaborate towards a Great Indo-British Clean-Up! :-)

  • Hey Remo, I should admit that you are one of the few Goans who identify themselves as an Indian first and then a Goan. I dont get why more than half want to associate themselves as Portuguese!!

  • Great... I am searching for "politicians dont know to rock n roll"...

  • I dont know if you remember me, but I used to play with your kids back in 1990 in Siolim.

    Hope all is well.

  • Love the riff at 2:28! Great Song!

  • @gatesrocks Thanks a lot, Surge!

  • Love your voice......

  • @monsumi Thanks so much, Monsumi! :-)

  • Thank you so much for your deep loyalty to Goa. And thank you for writing songs on issues that your heart believes in. You have courage and great strength of character (not lost in fame) to stand for what is right. Appreciate your guts to stand against all those involved in raping and finally killing our beautiful land. I cry for Goa, and choke with the sorrow. I Love my Goa. God bless you Remo and God save our beloved Goa.

  • @grtf11 Thanks a lot for your touching words, grtf! I know just how we who love Goa suffer to see her thus...

  • @RemoFernandes

Keep going Remo. Wanna see you rock forever. Always manage to get a glimpse of your Miramar bungalow whenever I visit Goa which is almost every year. Don't know if you still live there. Love Goa for what it is - its food, its music its simplicity of life. I hope it never dies. I always visit Goa in the monsoons where you get to see the real Goa - its beautiful with no tourists, no drugs - just good old locals and their fenny :)

  • @gatesrocks Thanks so much! You're right about Goa in the monsoons, when tall green grass grows and hides the plastic and the garbage... when most tourists and their speeding motorbikes are gone... when there are no traffic jams... and when Goans finally have their Goa to themselves - well, more or less, cause now non-Goan Indians settled here almost outnumber Goans. Vote banks encouraged and sponsored by our Goan politicians. So Goan votes don't even matter any more. Ah, we could go on and on..

  • @RemoFernandes

Frankly speaking I don't mind people outnumbering Goans. Its the same thing happening in Mumbai where ethnic Marathis are getting displaced and slowly outnumbered. My main concern is that it is happening without assimilation. In the process the culture gets diluted and over a period of time, non-existent. Culture, language needs to be preserved and nourished like a baby, especially in these complex globalized times.

  • @gatesrocks You're right, Surge. But though Marathas are being outnumbered in Mumbai, they still have the rest of huge Maharastra to themselves. Whereas tiny Goa is being engulfed in every nook and corner. And our culture and language will get drowned out one day, that's for sure. Yes, there are lots of things which NEED to be done - politicians' speeches are full of such lists...

  • @RemoFernandes

You're right. Goa suffers because it was already too tiny to begin with. Not only that, Goans are also moving out of Goa to Canada, Australia, so all that you have remaining are the businessmen from Mumbai and Delhi acquiring and selling land. But I'm an optimist at heart. So I guess I will continue to hope well. Came across this Goa NRI group on Facebook. Will see what they are upto. Cheers and have a good trip

  • @grtf11 Thank you so much for your touching words! But frankly, it doesn't take guts... after all, we're not living under Hitler's dictatorship... so why don't we ALL speak up and so something about what's bothering us? Why do we think we need to be scared? The only people who have a reason to be scared are those who have something to hide... such as black money, under-table connections with politicians and authorities, etc...

  • you are among the few english musician in india i guess who doesn't sing to pretend cool like other rock musicians in india. who don't have rock n roll attitude in their blood. keep on writing songs.at least the song speaks in the language that common urban indian understands. not fluffy fantasy stuff. carry on the great work

  • @mmxx1 Thanks very much, mmxx1! Yes, although I write my songs in English, I've always tried to write them the way I speak... And I've always tried to write about the Indian realities which surround me, not about some imaginary American utopia... Thanks for noticing and appreciating that! :-) All the best always.

  • perhaps the best song in recent times to have shown the symptoms of disease that is afflicting the urban middle class of india

  • @mmxx1 Thanks very much, mmxx...

  • Watch this link of Born in the USA and enjoy reading the comments out there and you all will start laughing (copy & paste the link)

    watch?v=yPudiBR15mk

  • Ha Ha ! I was thinking for quite sometime now, that its high time that somebody makes an Indian-ised version of "Born in the USA" song and I bumped across this song. Glad to see that at least some one expressing boldly the deteriorating concerns of our beautiful nation.

This song should also be sung in a Rock Version format just to appeal to the youngsters like the way Bruce Springsteen sings and only Remo Fernandes has the capacity to sing like that.

  • still crying:-(

  • Really Nice, never heard this one before.. loved the interlude on the acoustic guitar --- simply fantastic... Nice to see Malcomn here as well... Did read the lengthy debade with Vijay -- You guys sure had a go.... LOL ..... ;-).

  • @Jurgenmycroft Thanks a lot, Jurgen!

  • If there's one place ripe for environmental militancy--it's Goa! How can a people so variously blessed destroy themselves so willingly? Time for demonstrations, peaceful and democratic measures is well and truly over. A few years and it'll be all over. 1 or 2 of these miners, chemical co. guys, builders, estate agents, ministers & municipal officials etc need to 'go'. Goa needs a sacrifice from one of its son/daughter. Enough of this never ending siesta.

  • I know you as that Indian musician who left the status quo behind to do something different and unique of his own.

While we have these so called 'musicians' from bollywood who just lift and copy tunes from western songs, you are a beacon of light for those aspiring to stand their own ground. Bravo!

  • @fernandesfran Thanks a lot, Fran! I must point out though that there are quite a few other Indian artists who are doing fabulous jobs and being highly original too. Take care, and all the best always!

  • Great song - always admired you for the fact you're a one man band of sorts :). When the violin kicked in at the "I cry Goa" section - it was sheer symphony. Great lyrics - its ironic but true - we're all crying for India.

Whether we're crying for a lost past or a lost future - time will tell I suppose.

  • @praxkan Thanks, Praxkan. I for one am crying for both - a lost past and a lost future.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • love the song Remo great Job as usual ..........Hope the Goans wake up and kick all the dirty politicians out ....

  • sometimes i just feel that people who r so useless n hv nothing to do in their lives should just shoot them self... at least Remo expersses him self, n lets the world know of wat he feels.

n by the way Mr. KIXMET get a life bro dont tell Remo wat to do , i bet you cant do a bit of what he has done...useless brat

  • @149lovechick I do have a life, l I'm actually a songwriter and I gave up a career as a dentist to teach music and make music. And I don't just grumble about politics I am doing a Master's in Political Science! Informed criticism can yield results, sloganeering of course can win you cheap popularity. Remember it is the political process where there is a competition for power that keeps power in check. No Portuguese governor general would be questioned by an opposition in the Assembly!

  • Comment removed

  • @kixmet: More power to your comments and observations brother. How can a senior musician respond to criticism and valid discussion with such acidity and intolerance? He is suggesting that a younger upcoming musician has no right as an equal citizen to question his public statements about public issues. He could have responded graciously. This is Goa's icon... who his fans say is humble??!!

  • Thanks 4 this wonderful song Remo...god bless

  • Love the lyrics, love the music :). Its so good to hear a new song from you! Even nicer to find that you respond to these comments. I stumbled over this looking for a much older song from you, with a similar theme. It was on the 50 years of independence album- With lyrics along the lines of "Ho gaye sapne poore kayi/ reh gaye adhoore kayi/ phir bhi toh use, pyaar karta hoon main." Is there a chance I'd find it online, or be able to buy a CD somewhere? Thanks!

  • VERY INTERESTING SONG.YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT REMO.THE VIDEO IS WELL CREATED.AND THAT GUITAR SOUND WAS AMAZING.YOU ARE GREAT REMO. BUT REMEMBER ONE THING ,WE ALL CRY WITH YOU TOO.HOPE THIS SONG WILL CHANGE INDIA AND GOA.KIL THE DIRTY POLITICS AND THE UGLY POLITICIANS.LOVE GOA, LOVE REMO.

  • @SEBYUSA23 Thank you, Seby. You're right - we're all crying for Goa today. Wish we'd done something about it 25 years ago, then we wouldn't be crying now. No song can change things alone - WE have to be the change. Here's hoping. All the very best to you!

  • hi Remo..Can you share the NDTV program which was probably an interview with you or something. I just got the last 2 minutes of it... want to see in entirety. Thanks!

  • I love the lyrics but i dont think it was put together well! I wonder what Simon Cowell would say if Remo went on stage in American Idol? I don't think it would be pleasant to hear him but i am sure there would be a lot of truth to it as well!

  • @KarthikSoun Oops, looks like Remo reads his comments!! I take back what i said! :P

I loved your work and its very nice that your the first celeb that actually responds to his comments, keep rocking!

  • @KarthikSoun

for half a second think with some indian pride, why would we want to rate Remo on Imerican adol

  • Absolutely amazing !!!! Some of the best music I have ever encountered from India. You have a fan FOREVER.

  • @TheRevJayKiller Wow... thanks a lot, Jay! Where are you from?

  • you're the best musician to come out of Goa, something I can never hope to aspire. However when you Say that Goa needs dictatorship, I have to take exception as a citizen and a student of Politics and History.

Can you have justice when executive, legislative and judicial authority lie solely in one Individual or group?

If you care about Goa, join politics, run for a public office, I would be most happy to campaign for you.

  • @kixmet If you are unable to see the humor in that statement of mine, chill a bit and stop taking your Politics and History degrees so seriously.

IF I care about Goa? Who are you to doubt that, after all I've been doing for years? Or have you been living under a rock? No comparison here, but do you think Gandhi didn't care for India? Yet he never joined politics or ran for public office. Guess your degrees didn't teach you that certain things can ONLY be done from the outside.

  • @RemoFernandes In December 1921, Gandhi was invested with executive authority on behalf of the Indian National Congress, the largest and oldest democratic political party in the world. Ipso facto Gandhi was a politician working from within and not from "OUTSIDE"

Cynicism towards the Democratic Processes at times of the Great Depression 1929 was the main reason why Germany, Italy, France and Spain got charmed by Dictators (Hitler, Mussolini, Marshal Philippe Pétain, Franco)

  • @kixmet And by now, my dear ex-fan, I have spent much more time on your comments than they merit. Goodbye, good luck, and I hope you get over your obsession with criticizing other musicians, and get a life of your own soon.

  • Remember, a politician who can be criticized is holier than a saint who's actions cannot be questioned! Without politics to settle inevitable conflicts of interests there would be violence. However the freedom of speech also includes the "freedom to speak foolishly and irresponsibly" to quote the words of the US Supreme court judgement (Baumgartner V/s United States, 1944)

  • Hahaha! So nice to see you defending politicians! That too by quoting Americans, some of the worst politicians the world has known! Politicians CAUSE conflicts in our own country, by orchestrating and organizing destruction of places of worship, creating and inciting riots, dividing people and distracting them from their Swiss bank accounts. I presume a well informed person like you has read Tehelka's expose about the 'rent-a-riot' racket run by our politicians and godmen.

  • And you say politicians SETTLE conflicts? How disarmingly naïve! Or have you been paid off to defend them?

  • Vijayan Almeida, I think you've started believing the praises you write to describe your own music, singing, guitar and flute playing on your own web pages and elsewhere. Or perhaps you're realized no one else believes in them.

I must say, though, that the role of critic suits you much better than that of musician. To quote another saying, Those who can, do. Those who can't, become critics.

  • How about criticizing the Police State that existed in Goa during colonial times? You give the impression that Goa was a paradise before liberation and that Salazar was God himself. No wonder you want to become a dictator.

  • The impressions you form, my friend, are the products of your own limited, hallucinatory mind. Until just a few months ago, you were writing me embarrassingly gushy fan mails, saying how I was your inspiration, and begging me to check out your music and write comments on your web pages - which I kindly did, in order to encourage a newcomer like you. Has your imaginary success gone to your head now? Or has the lack of it turned you frustrated and bitter?

  • How about criticizing the Catholic Church for their immoral stand on homosexuality, contraception, abortion and philandering priests. Afraid your audience may not like it??

  • Wow... now you're trying to tell me what songs to write, and about what topics, Vijayan Almeida of Kixmet? I might've taken your advice, if you'd written at least one hit song in all these years. I've written songs about religions and their followers right from the time I was in college which is probably before you were born, kid.

You should write such songs yourself, if you feel like it. You won't risk antagonizing your audience you don't have one.

  • Thank your for a wonderful concert at Margao. However your rant against politicians is sounding like a stuck record.

  • You don't need to thank me, Vijayan Almeida. It was a ticketed concert hope you paid for your entrance. Or did you work your way in for free, under the guise of critic?

  • Funny you imagined I spoke [you choose 'rant'] against politicians at that concert. I categorically said it does us no good blaming politicians; that WE THE PEOPLE are to blame for electing corrupt politicians for our own selfish purposes, as they'll do 'our work' in exchange for a little bribe. My message was for the youth to get more involved and attend meetings, demonstrations and concerts for the ecological preservation of Goa. My message was against all the plastic which is choking up Goa.

  • Surely your understanding of the English language is good enough to have understood all that. So you are obviously trying to misinform and mislead people who were not present at the concert.

Having said that, I shall ALWAYS speak against crooked and corrupt politicians while they're around. If you don't like that, you can stay away from my music and my concerts no one asked or forced you to come.

  • @RemoFernandes I admire that in man who could stand up to goons of our country! But i dont think they are completely to blame, the attitude of domination and greed for power lie in almost every mans heart, its just how it has been harnessed in the west through conquest, free market capitalism etc that they have structured their greed and how we struggle to come to terms with greed being good!! This breads hypocrisy where Netas where kadhi dress but travel in luxury! Just my views.

  • Humble man - God Bless u

  • Very well my friend, pretty song, and excellent interpretation, I like me very much the sound of the guitar and also that of the flute. Regards of Costa Rica.

  • Hi Remo!! You have been a part of my heart since two decades now! I missed watching you the other day on NDTV and the program got over. Do you have the video of that? Remo, you just inspire me in every way and I am so proud of you that you speak what you live and live what you speak. You are just different from other composers and musicians and singers and thats what makes you special. Stay special and stay blessed!

  • @podfunaug30 : Hey Pod, you sure know your guitars! :-) Yes, its a Taylor, a gift from a wonderful friend, and I treasure it greatly. Thanks a lot about the words.

  • This is funny. when i was a trainee journalist in 1996, you were performing in pune and i got to interview you. you ask me if i 'wasn't too young'. i was dying to play a guitar like yours...i think you had an ovation then. i bought your album way back in 1989-90 in assam... i liked against you, against me. i picked it up on guitar too. and india was a great song too. thanks remo for bothering to reply.

  • SUCH, POWERSURGE & AZ, thanks a lot for your comments! Suchi, I see 'fans' as people who have appreciated my work. Everybody needs appreciation, even a sweeper who sweeps well! :-) And I'm very grateful for the appreciation when it comes along...

So glad you've liked this song. Please pass it on by posting the link to your friends who might like it too. It is for FREE sharing.

    Thank you!

  • It's really nice to know that you are a celebrity who actually replies to his fans' comments. My family and I have been your fans since the late 80s.

Once, 15-18 yrs ago, on a road trip to Goa (visited ur bungalow, u were out), all along the car ride from Pune to Goa, we kept listening to your awesome songs like Bombay City, Graham Bell, and others. I really hope you release new albums soon and include numbers with konkani flavor. Please oblige your fans with even more music.

    Thanks.

    Suchitra

  • Dear Remo.. I saw your Live performance during PECFEST 2007 in Chandigarh, I was a student then and I must tell you I have seen many concerts but ur music really touches one's soul and this song is another example...

  • Hope you make such great songs spreading the message in the future

  • Remo... you rock... as always. Great song, great message.... but the country is deaf yaar... we are all deaf.

  • Sadly, I think you're right, Dalvi. With this song I wasn't even trying to 'wake up' anyone, the way I tried with my songs 25 years ago... this song is just a lament for the fact that no one woke up. And that we're all deaf, as you said. Sad, but true...

  • @RemoFernandes : It's true. But let us not lose hope. People like you can make a difference. I'm sure there will be someone out there who listens. It's a great song with a true message. Keep up the good work. God Bless you...

  • Way to hold it down for India, and the family crest brother Fernandes!

  • Salute Remo!!! Powerful lyrics! Keep rocking!

I miss those good ol tunes Ocean Queen, Graham Bell... Ha ha - that sense of humour is missing nowadays. And then Bombay [not Mumbai!] City, Killing in the name of... Can I get them somewhere now?

  • Thank you, Shyam! The sense of humor is still there, I hope... but there is a time to laugh, and there is a time to cry, don't you think? Take care, all the best always!

  • Hello Rita Desai from Dubai, aka Sbakerish, aka Blankinfinity, you have been tracked down. Still frustrated over the fact that I blocked you from my FaceBook profile, I see. And peeved that your blackmailing attempt under the name Blankinfinity failed miserably. Dont you worry however many false names and identities you may hide under, you will ALWAYS be tracked down. May I give you a very friendly piece of advice: stop being a cowardly writer of anonymous messages, and get a life.

  • Nice song !!
