Interesting, that's the 64k version you're playing there with the 'squashed' screen (see my longplay for the 128k version) .... that's despite you having the 64k ram pack plugged in ?? Hm!
@Xyphoe I have the same issue with Hero quest. I can't get it to load 128k at all. Are some tape games 64k only but the disk versions are 128k or something?
Most games just detect during loading like, grell and falla, hard drivin', spellbound dizzy, etc.
@andyukmonkey IIRC some 128K games require call functions (I think) that are only available with the 6128 firmware, all the RAM pack is, is RAM, it doesn't have the updated firmware. The good news is that you can swap the 464 roms with 6128 ones, all you need is a donor 6128 and basic soldering skills. Locomotive actually sold the roms back in the 90s for a while till Amstrad put a stop to it.

@SkitchySkitchSkitch I knew the 6128's has added Basic commands but I didn't realise it had updated other stuff in the firmware :(
