Jeff was such a marvelous musician. If you have not heard his album, Last Call, you have been deprived of the full range of his abilities. I will have to do some research to see if there are any videos of him playing any of the numbers off of this album.
Jeff, you will be missed by many but appreciated by few. You were worth ten thousand tons times your weight in gold. I'll continue to appreciate your passion for music for years to come.
Without a doubt, Jeff has to be the best blind guitarist ever and one of the top 10 blues guitarists of all time...only after Stevie Ray,BB,Albert Collins, and Eric Clapton
What a great version of this song. I was lucky enough to see Jeff a couple of times during his tours of the UK in the late 80s, he was an amazing and unique talent.
The only man ever to cover better than the original every time. Something about his touch that made music magic and it didn't matter what it was he did it better...RIP man we love you!
@PearlJam2k6..... Sorry Pearl2k6...I clicked on the wrong spot I guess.
I was trying to respond to the dork (kaelin77) who wrote "He played pretty good for a blind white boy!"....as if his skin color being white had anything at all to do with his talent......or him being blind either!!!....as far as that goes....what a moron!
@k2ombs my bad also then mate, but i agree with you, lots of great musicians are white and black,so color has nothing to do with beeing blind or playing well ;)
@countroshculla true mate, but i reckon its a lot ritcher too.and he hasnt really left us as long as we keep enjoying his music,we should really enjoy his recorded performances now!peace brother
I'm afraid you are partially wrong here.. It sure takes technique to play the guitar,, because if you can't control the technique, you can't control the guitar.. Playing the guitar isn't just picking it up and strumming, and hoping it sounds good. You have to make sure melodics and notes and all fit well together,, or else it just doesn't sound right.. But what you're saying about 'playing how you feel',, that's almost entirely true.
I remember when Jeff came to Hammerjacks in Baltimore, right as See the light was being released. He nearly broght the roof down. The best show I have ever been to. I have seen Ozzy, Nugent, ZZ and many other bands. The Healey show is one I will never forget.
NO ONE in history has ever covered a song better than Jeff Healey! His playing is always better than the original, his soulful voice adds a rare dimension, and his interpretation is second to none. I only wish I could express it better. RIP man we love you!
I had been looking for a video of Stealer's Wheel doing their famous song, and what a pleasant surprise to come across Jeff Healey's great cover version! I have always held him in the highest regard, he developed a totally off the wall style of playing and made it work. Most guitarists wish they could play 1/4 of what Jeff could, even playing in a conventional way. I miss him the same as I do Stevie Ray Vaughan. And yes, I've seen their video together, Stevie was AMAZED watching Jeff play!
He was blind since he was 8 months... he got a cancer on his eyes, he has devoloped a personal style to play guitar, he died in 2008, he is one of the greatest musicians i have ever seen, obviously im saying this bassed on the fact that he is blind! so... Jeff Rest in Peace!
Reply...We will all hear him play and sing again one day. Why do all the good ones go first? Doesn't seem fair does it? I guess God doesn't want the a--holes, he just picks the best!!
@FLYINGVPLAYER FK yea, Jimi playin upside down and backwards, Healey playing blind n' slidish, Joplin beltin out the vocals and Robert Johnson in the background amazed by what blues became after. I don't care what it takes.......I want to see that performance.
