It's definately a hellcat - if not an wildcat - like you i'm banking off of the canopy - but still - this aircraft doesnt look to be salavaged - its wings are gone and the cockpit is open - you dont know the condition in which the aircraft came to rest upon the ocean floor...combat...error..who knows - but besides that - the pilot most likely may have ejected cause the canopy is clearly missing ...

the plane is not shot down... some parts in the ocean don't have enough reef for marine life so they put "artificial reefs" (airplane scraps, old ships).
