  • BTW I got a Q9550, a Gigabyte x48-dq6 and 4gb ram.

  • I got this card and I've had alot of issues with it. First off the drivers messed up both my computer and the card, second the card goes up to 81c idle with stock-coolers.

Get a new cooler you say?

Well, it's not even at the market anymore, I've looked in several stores and websites.

  • @Trey4yer gonna say you're 'doing it wrong', make sure it's not dusty inside the heatsink

idle doesnt particularly matter as the bios is made to be as quiet as possible with 20% idle fan

what i did was edit it to 38% & i now idle at ~45c (but before it wasnt bad ~55 or 60)

it's all about the load temps, as long as you're not going past 95 & the fan has room to go even faster

custom coolers always fit multiple cards & are on sale longer, or just get one used

make sure the VRMs are cooled, too

  • @Trey4yer so what did the drivers do?

  • Even though this card is old.... it kinda kicks the crap out of my gtx 280... buying one soon :D

  • @Damowhite123 forget it, get a 6950 or gtx560ti or 570 or other single card

  • @kn00tcn Whats wrong with the 4870x2 ?

  • @Damowhite123 why would you get an almost 3yr old card NOW, plus having multiple gpus comes with more driver issues & waiting for profiles (both ati & nv)

it's just... a waste of time & money, unless you're interested in playing with CF for some reason

why dont you sli with a 2nd 280? it would be faster & cheaper than a 4870x2 wouldnt it? (unless your mobo doesnt support sli)

  • @kn00tcn It may be 3 years old but its still a pretty good card, I can get one used for £120, yeah my motherboard doesn't support SLI or CF, i have a 700w cooler master psu so i think i can handle it, also... i've had dual 9800gts before didn't notice anything.

  • @Damowhite123 that's something like $180? a little too close to the price of a 5870 or 6870, which are just under a 4870x2's performance best case scenario, & double it (or more) worst case

it really depends on which games though, some have major issues for months until a fix, others have to have CF or SLI disabled entirely to function properly, so you end up getting the performance of a single 4870, & others work great

i have enjoyed my card, just it's good to know the risks before jumping in

  • @kn00tcn The 5870 cost £165 used, i under stand the risks but i've been after an upgrade for about 2-3 months I was surprised what this old card could do. The 2gb vram would be good since i'm playing my games at 1080p, oh and i play cod waw, left 4 dead 1+2, teamF2, crysis & just cause 2

  • @Damowhite123 CF & SLI mirror vram, only 1gb is usable, but i'm 1920x1200 & it's fine (crysis 2 beta was acting funny, if i change rez & back, scaling goes back up, but then eventually stutters like crazy & fps drops, as if it ran out of vram, ended up playing at 1440x900)

for the most part, CF is ok if you have patience for the first few weeks of a game release

some major games had bad luck this year though, crysis2, shift2, brink is the worst with CF off AND a rendering issue on 4800 series

  • @kn00tcn huh I didn't know that.....I'll have a think i might be able to save another week or so... all i've been doing is looking at benchmarks and what frames the card gets in games at 1080p... thanks for the info

  • @Damowhite123 try to find benchmarks that show minimum fps, sometimes sure the average or max goes up, but then a bottleneck gets hit where at certain points the game is running the same speed as a single gpu

also in my experience, crysis warhead got several fps boosts over the last 2 years, especially in dx10 mode, so some benchmarks might be out of date (including this video)

  • @Damowhite123 will do :)

  • @Damowhite123 also, you cant disable CF on x2 cards if you need to compared to having separate cards, so in some rare cases, you're stuck with a problem, but that doesnt appear too often

  • your quad processor is stoping you from getting better FPS, I'm getting about 40FPS on the same setting but with 4XAA.

  • nice bobble head...haha nobody here xcept me prob knows it's from fallout 1 & 2

  • ur gpu is not stable try to liquid cool it please or u will loose it quicker than u think

  • @gameman43 not stable?? there is no crashing in this video or in regular use

the card is already over 2yrs old

  • @kn00tcn ur definitely wrong cus at the starting wierd lines kinda like triangles show. they are called artifacts. if u've overclocked ur gpu then bring it to default or if u've not overclocked it. buy a liquid cooler

  • @gameman43 what part of the video? the only thing there is is black smears in the forest when i'm turning fast, this is a 100% driver or game issue only in dx10 mode only in crysis, i am willing to get other people to test to prove it

  • @gameman43 there's nothing wrong with the video. Your own graphics card sucks

  • @tykki4 GTX 580?

  • @tykki4 i used to have this card.... now i have a gtx 580 SC twin frozer II

  • @gameman43 Looking at all your feedback you seem to be very negative at people who have expensive components such as the comment about the psu and the 6 core cpu. I also have a 4870x2 which also runs very hot and I have had no problems for the last 3 years.

  • @Kiwibro92 im not negetive i hav owned this card and found out for myself that it does show artifacts if u overclock thats why i told him to bring the card to default (if u dont know whats an artifact or u didnt see it in the video than dont start yappin that im negetive)

  • please tell me the dubstep beat in the background thats nastie !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • @killamc786 nice nice, jakes-2 steps back, i love jakes (& coki & kromestar)

  • @kn00tcn BIG G check my dubstep beats out bro my boi just done a music vid on my beat ! im getting big round manchesta che ck it search Animal Season (HD 1080p)

  • this aint watching how it runs, you must first ask someone else to hold the camera and then start moving. go to a action scene for example the last mission which is pretty GPU intense. if you stand still like this your gpu doesn't have to render alot of frames resulting in higher framerates then when your really gaming

  • thats is really nice.

  • my 4870x2 with q6600@ 3ghz runs warhead at least 25 fps - 60fp , pity the fucking GPU can never keep cool enough !

  • @girlsdrinkfeck make sure you blast compressed air into the heatsink, & i even have a custom fan ramp to hang around 90 degrees

  • @kn00tcn dude , ive took the whole thing apart and kept the shroud off for the time being , im gonna put 2x 80mm fans over the copper blocks

  • This game is like looking in a real life picture.

  • @phoenix1333 almost... cant wait to see how crysis 2 will look

  • Gooooooooooooooood video man ^- ^ aunke mil veces prefiero una consola antes de estar frente de un monitor jajajaja ^^

  • @TheNewDragon91 you know you can hook up a pc to a tv & use a controller right?

  • test

  • hey great system. what the name of the song was in the beginning? sorry if youve answered it couldnt find it.

  • finally someone noticed, it's 'Jakes - 2 Steps Back'

the gta4 vid if you were also wondering is 'Matty G - Dominator remix'

  • thank you very much!

  • you idiot that fucking video /

  • speak an actual language, not random words

  • Why don't you use AA?

I've got XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB 850 MHz and intel Core 2 Cuad Q9650 3GHz and I can almost use AA.

Is it yor screenreslolution that ruins it?

  • i want it to go as fast as possible, so AA is the first thing i'll drop from games

what i really need to do is tweak from outside the menus

  • xD, I have same proccesor as you have, "Q9550".

  • Get a life

  • GET A DICK

  • lol faggot

  • MEGA-DUDE-86

  • yes thats me and you are a faggot! BIATCH!

  • ohh BIATCH, arent you the cool black woman!

  • no.. thats your mom (the cool black woman) also shes a man lol

  • HA-HA, SO FUNNY!!!!!!!

  • ha-ha ha-ha ha-ha! >> watch?v=XrDxlf9bMYU

  • yay

  • OC that card, I wanna see the results

    I have a 4870 512MB, Q6600 3.0GHz, 8GB.

My 4870 has more memory bandwidth than a stock 4890 because its overclocked.

I also OCd the PCI-e slot.

With all that OCing, i see 5 less FPS than you do on the same settings(1440x900 is my max rez, so I know its not exactly 1:1)

But still, its 10FPS more than stock, so you should see a similar boost just maxing out ATI overdrive

  • well crysis scales badly with CF so... not too surprising

i also need to test the different AA modes

  • Imagine a 5870x2 :D

  • well right now, 5870x2 is looking to be 5850 speeds (with 5870 cores), so 2 separate 5870s would be better

...imagine 6870 haha, especially since crysis doesnt scale well, need better single cores (5870 is way better than 4870x2, while in most other games they're matched, sometimes even worse than the x2)

  • I think the 5870 is quite a step up from the 4870x2, A single 5870 beats the GTX 285, and comes barely short of a dual gpu card GTX 295.

The best single card on the market.

  • no, they're fairly matched

it's a step up only with poor scaling games (crysis) or games that cant use crossfire

farcry2 appears to always be slower on a 5870

  • hey man i have a question. i just bought my hd 5770 and i run gta 4 with 15-20 fps [all the settings are on high] and i my processor is a E4500 . I think that the processor is the problem am i right?

  • horrible cpu, ya

  • thx for the reply i'll get a Q6600 this winter :)

  • nah, get one of the 45nm chips to overclock further with less voltage & heat

    q9450, q9550, q9650, or at least q9300 or q9400

  • man i bought too many things this month [a EP45-UD3LR mobo,a hd 5770,a new case, and a new hdd] and i have no money left that's why i'll try to save some money for the Q6600[because it's cheap and very overclockable and it has 8mb of l2 cache xD]

  • but q6600 isnt for sale or made anymore, you might have to get it used

the newer quads are much more overclockable since they're not as hot & not as much voltage

  • k i'll get the Q8200 it's in the same price range

  • ahh hm.. q8x00 might be a bit too low

    google "q6600 vs q8200"

you can only spend ~$150? q8400 at least, or q9400 if possible... or even e8400/e8500 dualcores

in any case, should have an OC of at least 3.4ghz

  • then i'll get the Q8400

  • yer better off with an i7 got the 3.2 ghz one and have overclocked to 4.2 ghz so far with an internal temp of 40 but has water cooling.... Runs perfect even if i set it to have every object rendered from any draw disance

  • sigh, that low fps with standing still and shooting? thats crap, 40+ is requirement to run game's smooth.. so nothing special u got there.. and wtf u buy a game like crysis? download ftw

  • oh wouldnt you like to know how many more times i dload instead of buy, it's just 1 game

that's precisely the point, how does it run? NOT GOOD as you can see

i never said it runs awesome

  • And what do you want to tell us with this Video? That Crysis run with a 4870x2 + 3.6ghz Core 2 Quad in Vista64?

I can told you this before... tz

  • are you a little slow?

it's HOW it runs for anyone thinking of a similar setup or to compare to their own if they're thinking of an upgrade

(it's also not good enough actually)

  • Anti Aliasing OFF?? \

    LOL FAIL LOL FAIL

    LOL FAIL LOL FAIL

    LOL FAIL LOL FAIL

    LOL FAIL LOL FAIL

    LOL FAIL LOL FAIL

  • turn your own AA on?

    LOL WIN LOL WIN

    LOL WIN LOL WIN

    LOL WIN LOL WIN

    LOL WIN LOL WIN

  • i have exactly the same system as you

    and basic keyboard and mouse

    lol

  • you installed service pack 2 for vista???

  • ya, this vid is from march

things are pretty solid now, dx9 has much less stutters after cat9.8, but dx10 is still more fluid even with less fps

  • You should get the same performance with 4xAA. I have a single HD 4890 and I experience no drops in performance from 0xAA to 4xAA in both Crysis and Crysis: Warhead. Also, Catalyst 9.9 should be a bit faster.

  • i get a hit, but 4x is almost the same as 2x

i just stick with 0x untill i setup some tweaks

  • dude ur cable management blowsss

  • 'dude', i fixed it a few months ago

    photos-d.ak.fbcdn(dot)net / hphotos-ak-snc1/hs260.snc1/10724_172494971000_595211000_3919771_5914077_n.jpg

  • i cant see the picture, btw is that the nine hundred or nine hundred two? i actually kinda wanna see the picture though of ur cables cuz i need ideas im buildin this week hopefully, im orderin ma shit tommorrow

  • original (well... revision 2 or 3, whatever existed ~late summer 2008) antec 900

    change (DOT) to .

remove the space after NET & the one before HPHOTOS

  • is the inside black or silver, and lemme look

  • hey can some one tell me if 60 frames per second on a core i7-920@ 4.0ghz with gtx 295 quad sli. on 1680x1050 good?

  • looking for attention?

  • no im seriours help me?

  • omfg go burn ur computer ....

  • why do you need help? if you cant tell what's good, then it's fine for you

  • I don t think you even will get it almost max 40-45 fps mabye

  • A single gtx 295. Can get 50fps.

  • O sorry 50 I mean a friend sayd 40-45

  • i get 40 average.

  • lol. a pip boy

  • antec 900, rc690 doesnt look anything like it o_O

regardless, a lot of companies have been copying antec 900 ever since it got popular a few years ago

  • gr8 vid man

  • Nice man, I remember when thr 4870x2 reigned supreme . . .

  • i have da same computer

n it looks alot bettr in person

    but still great vid

  • Latest Catalyst drivers (9.8) give a nice boost in Warhead.

  • Another 'Will it run?' question!

    -E8400 C2D @ 3Ghz (OC to 3.6Ghz)

    -6 Gb DDR3

    -HD 4890

What FPS can I expect? :o

  • you forgot to mention resolution

why do you have 6gb? can that even run dual channel? (i'm assuming it's 3 sticks)

at 1920, maybe 25-30fps without any cfg tweaks in dx10 mode

  • Yo dude, how would Crysis Warhead run on these specs at 1440x900 res?

    ATI Radeon 4870x2 2gb

    8 GB DDR2 Ram

    AMD Phenom II X4 905e 2.5GHz

Would I be able to max it out?

  • what fps are you aiming for? even single cards could max it out (or at least use tweaks to look near maxed)

you might want to overclock the cpu, but i dont think it will help that much in crysis compared to something like gta4

  • About 40 fps.

  • Your CPU is letting you down, alot.

It will be bottlenecking the GPUs performance, overclock it and you will see an improvement.

  • lmao, the CPU isn't letting him down... quad core at 3.6 GHz won't bottleneck a GPU if the game is optimized properly for quad cores.

  • I wasn't talking to Kn00tcn ;)

I was talking to the guy with the Phenom @ 2.5Ghz.

  • ah right, fair enough :) 2.5 ain't enough

  • E8400 C2D is a dual core not a quad core.

  • Video description says Q9550 that's a quad.

  • Oh Sorry! i thought Sacificeuntosebek was replying to jacob5622.

  • don't worry about it, youtube comments are so badly displayed. you can never tell whats a reply to what.

  • nice! and I like how you left off antialiasing. we don't need no stinkin' AA at 1920x1200!

  • wohou, actually i cant stand no AA, but depends on the visual design of an engine

in UT3, areas are textured in such a way that edges are obscured (except when bright touches dark)

in crysis, there's some kind of blur around pixels

in GTA4, the no AA is just so ugly...

i turn AA on where i can, which makes source engine games so smooth & delicious, but if the game in question is just too slow for even 2xAA, i turn AA down before other options (though some options are affected cpu more)

  • i have changed my geforce 9800 gt with geforce 9800 gtx and that was very nice graphic card... my and yours system was very similar... :D

  • 9800 GTX has nothing on the 4870 X2. Not even the GTX 280 can beat it.

and I'm not an AMD fanboy either. my last three video cards were nVidia... but I'm making the switch to the 4870 ("x1"... 512 MB GDDR5) in august.

the 9800 GTX is still an excellent card though. I hope you enjoy gaming on it :)

  • 512mb?? in august?? you need more than that (at least for gta4, & for fc2 at over 22" rez with AA)

    why not 4890?

  • I would love a 4890 but I'm just trying to save money, plus I dont think a 1 GB card would have a drastic improvement over 512 mb when my max resolution is 1680x1050.

a 4870 should last me at least long enough to get a faster, cheaper card a year or two down the line :)

  • isnt the price difference between 512mb & 1gb 4870s minimal?

  • yeah, you're right. I just decided on getting a 1 GB 4870 for only $15 more. now THAT's totally worth it!

    thanks for uploading the vid!

  • and how much money is that system?

  • it's right in the title, 4870x2

it was like $2300 canadian INCLUDING a $500 (without tax) monitor, the gfx was $560 without tax

    this was in october 2008

  • what is your graphic card?

  • ok man but vista is not full... xp is full that is not problem in games, but vista sometimes have problems in some programs and games...

  • like? i cant think of a problem i had with an app or game that also works in xp, & i'm 64bit too

  • i have AMD 64 x 4 (core2quad) cpu-3.6 ram-4gb hdd-500gb graphic card-Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT 1GB ram... i don't like vista beacause i have xp and must play all games!!!

  • that doesnt make sense, vista isnt bad, & win7 is better than both

  • I have the same case a Q6600 and 9800gx2 i just ordered the 4870x2 cant wait to get it nice system but try to do better wire management as your wiring is sloppy but oder than that beautiful system.

  • haha my friend also noted the wiring

  • Comment removed

  • NVM, its in the more info.

  • I would expected a better frame rate.

  • this is in dx10 mode, 1920x1200, but also i didnt do any ini tweaks which would speed it up to dx9 speeds (30 goes to 40 fps)

  • What about CCC AF settings...?

  • app controlled

  • that's very good fram rates considering that hes running with enthusiast settings DX10 which is the max and not to mention 1920x1200 res and still getting around 35 to 40 fps thats amazing I could even get that with my 9800gx2 @1650x1050I only get an average 25 to 30 at that res.

  • nice videos i subbed(;

  • I just purchased 4870X2 I have a 680 watt apevia psu. I 'am getting error message that my psu doesn,t have enough juice and the card has to under clock itself. Surfing the web is fine ,but as soon as I launch a game the computer locks up. Just ordered a 1.2kw psu hopefully I wont have any trouble like this again.

  • you could have just gotten a decent 750w...

if a psu is under $120, it's probably crappy

if a psu is under $90 (without rebates), & over 600w, then it might even be dangerous

  • getting 1, though i need a new motherboard / power supply. any suggestions?

    running on cheap budget :[

  • getting 1 what? an x2? yet you need a cheap budget?

need actual $ numbers, $100-120 psu, $150-350 gpu, $150-200 mobo is as cheap a budget as i'll ever go (for gaming that is)

  • 4870 x2 rules!!!!

  • You really should do more how does it run videos! there awesome

  • ya i probably should... though everything else runs great

maybe i could do FC2 or WiC

  • WOW that is jaw dropping!

  • Very nice!!!
