Grumble, grumble. I wonder how Nathan feels about this constant comparison to Stan? I think Nathan sounds amazing, whether or not he sounds like his Dad.I find his sound very original. He doesn't need his Dad's legend to make him real, even if he does do Stan proud. Wonderful piece, Nathan!
my merciful god! its like i was sitting on the lower deck again, with his dad drinking beer -right after i climbed off my horse from point pleasant park, i have got chills running down my back -he has his fathers voice thats unbeilevable, thanks for opening my eyes and my heart to stan's music-re-lived with nathan,,garnett has a large heart for the music but not the soul in the song, god love u nathan, hope to shake your hand! See ya in guysborough or canso...Jeff from calgary
Thanks to everyone involved with this clip. Beautiful acoustic music and gorgeous harmony singing. Must have been magic to have been there. Thanks for uploading the music. Thank goodness for sites like YouTube.
WOW! This was my first visit to Summerfolk and I was at this performance. I can't believe and yet am so glad that someone recorded this. I love the voice and the love in the audience was palpable.
Thank you, thank you to the performers and recorder.
I must give a huge shout out to Ken(on mandolin). His solo is just awesome. Thanks also to Paul, Trevor and Ben. This is one of my quintessential memories of Summerfolk 2007. Cheers to all of you who are proud Canadians and/or stan fans. Also, big thanks to singers in the crowd. Nice to see you all there!
That's what I felt, too.. I was heavily into disco when Stan and Garnet lived in the same small town as me in the '70's. Consequently, I never knew of them, and sadly, never heard Stan sing live. Hearing Nathan sing this at Summerfolk just whoppingly made up for that massive regret. I look forward to hearing a lot of Nathan in the years to come.
I can agree to this, entirely. I was born all of a month after Stan passed away, so never had the opportunity to hear him sing in person. However, I was at Stanfest in Canso just this summer, and when he performed Northwest Passage there it was like Stan was up on that stage singing with him. I have to admit to getting a little misty-eyed, standing in that huge crowd and singing along. Nathan is an amazing talent, and I hope to hear a lot more of his own voice in the future!
have you ever heard Nathan play his own music, or throat sing? He's amazing.
