CLEANING TIP i have read katadyn used to give you a brush, well when you clean your filter cartridge take an old tooth brush before using scouring pad, less cleaning needed with the scouring pad then.

i have an old tooth brush in the storage bag just fro that reason

can this filter take out viruses of size 0.25nm ? as the lifesaver bottle have filter size of 0.15nm, please let me know, also can this be used with sea water ?

@ecod7r my understanding is that the filter size is of 0.2 microns, which does NOT effectively filter viruses. MANY filters share this pore size (lifestraw etc), and filtering viruses in North America is not super important unless your water is contaminated with human sewage.

@nastyaq The Pocket is for filtering fresh water only. To remove salt or other minerals from water a process like reverse osmosis or ion exchange is needed. Katadyn offers desalinators for different uses on the basis of reverse osmosis. To learn more, visit the Katadyn website.

This is the baby I want. I have read countless testimonials and some people have owned these for 20 years or more with no malfunctions. It's very expensive and probably too heavy for backpacking but its the cat's meow.

Hi, I own the old version of the pocket which is very very good, however doesnt have a pre-filter. Does the replacement hose set include the pre-filter ?

For replacement hoses, please contact your local dealer. There is a spare part hose set available for the Pocket.

I suppose you mean the screw that holds back the little metal ball which acts as check valve. Make sure you don't lose this ball.

i have this, took it on a 9 night trip to the BWCA with 6 other people. I think I would rather have the base camp bag with a large group though because its annoying having 6 other people constantly asking me "where's the pump?"
