When this episode first aired as the series finale, I was pissed. After everything Buffy went through, I could not believe the writers decided to kill her. Thank God they came to their senses and had more seasons with Buffy's return from the dead. The original series ending was just too sad. Plus, the last few seasons of "Buffy" were fantastic, and the series finale episode was so much better than the original.
@edenah75 The next two seasons were on a different network and because of the Season 7 finale they actually did two more seasons as a comic book on how all the slayers fight the against the human race and demons, vampires, apocalypes, etc.

Gorgeous piece of music, very emotional...it's almost like you're there with the characters. And I thought it was beautiful when Buffy risked everything and did anything to keep her sister safe, it was really touching. But the scene where she sacrificed herself tops everything, she was such a selfless hero. Love this show!

You know...as much as 'The Gift' would have been a perfect ending for Buffy, Spike needed a perfect ending, too. And at least he got that. So you know...it wasn't ALL bad :-)
i dont know...i think i would have preferred this ending then to season 7 ending, even though i hate to see buffy die...she was at peace, she could finally rest. Maybe its just me but this seemed a more befitting ending.

this was actually meant to be the series ending. buffy got canceled at the end of season 5. thats why joss did this episode, only another station picked buffy up(:

@buffyfan41 I think it's pretty bogus how the writers carried Buffy into season 6. In seasons 1-5 Buffy is portrayed as this independent brave young woman wise beyond her years, and then the writers go and turn her into a sex-crazed maniac in season 6. Was I pissed at season 6?
The sex wasnt the point in season 6. I think the point was that Buffy had lost herself. she was so changed from what she had been through and she couldnt go back to who she had once been. her view of the world was tainted more so than it already had been after experiencing heaven and she couldnt come back from that for a long time. that's just what I think:)
@jldjs83 yeah I understood instantly when I first saw season 6 as to why Buffy was doing all of those things, but I just didn't agree with her solution to dealing with her pain.
@PopCulture20 I think it was because Joss Whedon wanted to show a deeper side to Buffy - a more selfish side to her character, to make her more human. As feminist as Whedon is, even Buffy can't be perfect.
I think it was a good decision - it gave her room for growth as an individual, and kept her from being a cliche, all-good, all-wonderful heroine. I find I can relate to her there - in her shoes, I would certainly WANT to give up and not care. It seems weak, but she grows from it.

I liked the first 3 seasons, then again i am a teenager, but i liked season 5 and 6 more becuz there was just so much emotion and love. It showed how they r family and how hard it is to let go of a member :D

The last flash of Buffy's face talking was heart breaking. I REALLY thought this was the end.
No quite serious. Season 6 was so depressing it made me want to kill myself and season 7 was just a mess. But the show does have a high standard to meet though as season 2 and 3 are the greatest television ever.
True it had it's moments, those were great episodes along with Selfless and CWDP. Also Nathan Fillon was great and it was awesome to have Faith back. But the ending of Empty Places pissed me off to no end. How could they just kick her out like that?
when this episode first aired I was under the impression that buffy jumped to save the world, but she didnt. i realize now she only jumped to save dawn. B4 she had the flashbacks about the same blood and death being her gift, etc, dawn tried, twice, to jump to save the world and buffy wouldnt let her , even though she knew it would stop hell on earth. In the end, her sister meant more to her than anyone in the entire world

Greatest moment of the show.
I don't understand why people diss seasons 5, 6 and 7 and always say the first seasons were the best.
To me, although great, the first seasons felt too much like a teen show and were kinda prisoner of the "monster-of-the-week" format.
The last three seasons were much more mature, emotionally deeper and focused more on season-long storylines.

though i severely dislike season 7, it has too many filler episodes, and ruins the characters for me in one or two places.

I liked the first 3 seasons, then again i am a teenager, but i liked season 5 and 6 more becuz there was just so much emotion and love. It showed how they r family and how hard it is to let go of a member :D

such awesome music, i hate the episode though.. she was different when she came back, i mean for fuck sakes, sure she was in heaven but get over it! i'm tired of hearing how your in hell, its driving me nuts! i'm on the last disc of season 6

No quite serious. Season 6 was so depressing it made me want to kill myself and season 7 was just a mess. But the show does have a high standard to meet though as season 2 and 3 are the greatest television ever.

True it had it's moments, those were great episodes along with Selfless and CWDP. Also Nathan Fillon was great and it was awesome to have Faith back. But the ending of Empty Places pissed me off to no end. How could they just kick her out like that?

when this episode first aired I was under the impression that buffy jumped to save the world, but she didnt. i realize now she only jumped to save dawn. B4 she had the flashbacks about the same blood and death being her gift, etc, dawn tried, twice, to jump to save the world and buffy wouldnt let her , even though she knew it would stop hell on earth. In the end, her sister meant more to her than anyone in the entire world
