I've recently built same the kind of crystal radio as yours. I tried adding two different kinds of variable capasitors between the coil but both of them don't work. The radio channels keep changhing by itself. Could you please tell me what should I do?
What an alternative to enameled wire?

A crystal radio does not use batteries. It draws electric power from the radio signal.
In theory, a Tesla generator draws electric power from the sun by connecting a circuit between the ionosphere (magnetosphere) and the earth.
Remember, light is just the visible spectrum of electromagnetism.

Do you have a schematic of your radio?

@mdnghtrdrr No, since I don't do that based on a single schematic but do modifications all the time. Just search the net, there are hundreds of them.

@fishtankbank Yes.

@lai2ke4 is a thinner or thicker gauge more beneficial? does it matter?

If you look closely, there are actually two coils. One antenna and one trap. The two variable capacitors connected in parallel with these two coils.

I made such crystle radio when I was yound. The sound was very Hi Fi and heard over crystle earphone without amplifier.
Thanks very much for giving me such lovely memory.
