As a matter of fact, the invasion was illegal, both according to intern'l law & domestic law, as I explained. Maybe your dislike of these facts indicates that you are in favor of lawlessness. @yrrmom Beyond that, the Taliban was charged with harboring the terrorist organization responible for the deaths of almost 3,000 innocent Americans. How does your ideological foundation of moral relativism hold up to that fact? Believe me, I know that facts. But you clearly don't. Every state in the worl has the right to defend it's own citizens! Al Qaeda's funding has benn virtually cut off, and most of it's leaders have been either killed or captured. Invading was the right decision.

I have referred only to concrete, indisputable facts: The US unilaterally invaded Afghanistan without Security Council authorization. Such agression is in violation of the UN Charter; it clearly prohibits such action. The invasion wan't "self-defense" because it occurred *after* the attack in question was over. The Charter doesn't authorized preemptive or preventive attack. The Charter is a ratified treaty.

Ritter never claims or suggests that Iran loves Israel, if that's your point. All he said was: "Iran is not an agressor; Iran has not attacked anybody." The same of course can't be said of Israel or the US, which are both currently engaged in aggressive wars which they began with illegal invasions. Even if your neighbor hates you, that doesn't make it right (or even prudent) for you to bomb his house "pre-emptively".

@yrrmom How was the invasion of Afghanistan illegal? At the time of the invasion, Afghanistan was virtually controlled by the Taliban, which was harboring Al Qaeda (and continues to do so today). The invasion of Afghanistan was never deemed illegal by the UN. And every intelligence agency on the planet came to the conclusion that Iraq possessed WMD's. If you can name one other that came to a different conclusion, I'd be glad to hear it.

@SgtSoot The invasion of Afghanistan violated the UN Charter which is "the supreme Law of the Land" under the US Constitution (art6 sec2). The Charter prohibits "threat or use of force" except by authorization of the Security Council or in "self-defense if an armed attack occurs". The invasion wasn't authorized by the Security Council. It wasn't in "self-defense" because the armed attack was over. Some defend the invasion in terms of "preventing" more attacks; but the Charter doesn't allow that.

I mean, just look at what the UN has done for world security since the 1950's. You're out of your mind. And if the invasion of Afghanistan was illegal, why hasn't the UN condemned it? The armed attack was over? So I guess Al-Qaeda wasn't plotting more attacks on US soil post 9/11. They just figured they'd kill thousands of Americans, and then retire.
