Hope you decide to go to Cartagena de Indias, Its a very romantic city. I love Gabriel Garcia Marquez novels and this city sure makes you feel like you are in one. It's very nice to go with someone and share the experience. Have fun in whatever you decide :).

Hi, I live in the US but I'm from Cartagena. I've lived in the states most of my life.About your topic ... YES.. Cartagena, can be a little dangerous but most countries South America are. You can't just think of that. You will be fine in Cartagena just make sure not to carry nothing that is expensive or name brand or anything like that especially out of the walled city. It's a beautiful and very authentic place i think you will love it since you seem to be an explorer at heart.
@vainilla27 Tourist can take out their cameras perfectly in the old city, or bocagrande and others, obviously you cant show it if you are walkin in bad areas, the same think like any other city.
Cartagena, santa marta, san andres island, medellin, barranquilla. cali and bogota, and villavicencion of course, in COLOMBIAAAAAAAAAAA
