@kaderoder - Newtonian dynamics and relativity work very well for the very large. Quantum Mechanics works very well for the very small. It's combining the 2 that is a challenge. Dark Matter accounts for about 25% of the mass of the Universe. And it's not that mysterious. It's particles which interact with baryonic matter only weakly. Like neutrinos, but more massive. And it seems Einstein was right in including the cosmological constant in GR, after all. The puzzle is why it's so small.

let's make it really simple, yes you can generate a black hole on earth IF you have enough energy to crush the particles together close enough, and create a ball of mass strong enough to attract more mass exponentially eventually crushing the entire planet, however that requires a certain amount of mass, like a reverse nuclear reaction 'critical mass' will not be achieved within CERN, and we are not pumping in enough energy to make the atoms bind anyway, so it is completely safe.
Well, realistically and it's something everyone should realize, the energies the LHC is capable of achieving are no where close to the energy of particle collisions within our own atmostphere from cosmic rays. Besides, the theoretical possibility only includes mini-black holes which decay so quickly they wouldn't exist for long.
If we could create black holes, even momentarily, we would not need ANYTHING ELSE. With such technology we could explore the stars, manipulate gravity, etc. I WISH we could create miniature singularities.

The LHC collides sub-atomic particles, with almost zero mass, therefore, any black hole created would be so weak, it wouldn't really be able to swallow anything, much less the planet earth. No. The LHC wont create black holes. Black holes are not created millions of times a day in the atmosphere. Yes, even if they were, they would evaporate within nanoseconds, but that's not even the point. The energy required to create a micro black hole is fantastically large, even compared to the energy levels at the LHC. The energy levels of cosmic ray collisions in our atmosphere that ARE going on millions of times a day are far more powerful than those in the LHC yet still far too weak.

LHC gives the protons around 7Gev per proton and people think a black hole is a hole through space. It isnt. it is highdense mass with a gravity that can even bend light and if it was a "hole" through space you will not see it as it has a realityhorizon created from the high gravity.it bends the light around the black hole. a proton with around 7Gev and it collides with another gives a power of around 14GeV and that isnt close enough as u need 10^24TeV per proton to make a minimal black hole.

It is wrong to conclude on assumptions and observations the LHC is safe with no substantial proof. People assumed and expertly argued the world must be flat until these observations and assumptions were proved to be wrong against the cold, hard facts of reality and not perception.
Keeping this in mind, Hawking's theory is assumed to be correct. CERN experts currently assume and observe Hawking to be the correct model. Until proven, they may be entirely wrong.

@Standard999999 By your logic, it would be wrong to assume that you are not a pedophilic sex offender based on observations. The burden of proof lies with the one making the wild claims. And they have presented no evidence.
Also, note that my argument is based upon solid observations and data, and does not depend upon Hawking's work, or even the whole of the standard model, being correct. It is solid empirical observation of a 4.5 billion year demonstration of the safety of 14+ TeV collisions.

And I'm pointing out that equal (and *far* higher) energy cosmic ray collisions have been occurring trillions of times per day on Earth for the last several billion years. Same is true of the moon, and all the other bodies of the solar system. Call me when Jupiter collapses to a black hole. LOL. Sorry to ruin your paranoia with facts.

Clearly by your logic of believing in observation without facts leads to delusion. For example, when astronomers first observed mars with a telescope and saw the different patterns of terrains assumed the planet was teaming with vegetation and lifeforms like earth. Observation means nothing. Put the onus on CERN's claims to back their LHC safety claims with real facts and not just current theories and observations of what may or may not be real.

Being Seriusly: the energy of the particles in LHC is bullshit compared to other things in the Universe (like hypernovas for example where particles move with speed 99,99999999% of light and only some "crappy gamma rays" are emitted) for Black Holes you need extreme gravity. VERY extreme.

Enoch was shown that black holes are prisons for evil angels. Physics -as we know it- doesnt work with the very big (Galaxy's) or the very small (atoms) and for the most part, science has alot of explaining to do. Dark matter, e.g. explains that we have no idea where 90%+ of the universe's mass is. Huh? Either science is wrong with regards to gravity or something inconceivably powerful is in the blackness of space, lending energy to all matter. Bit o both?

@kaderoder - Newtonian dynamics and relativity work very well for the very large. Quantum Mechanics works very well for the very small. It's combining the 2 that is a challenge. Dark Matter accounts for about 25% of the mass of the Universe. And it's not that mysterious. It's particles which interact with baryonic matter only weakly. Like neutrinos, but more massive. And it seems Einstein was right in including the cosmological constant in GR, after all. The puzzle is why it's so small.

LHC can't create black holes because black holes don't exist, anywhere. If you actually believe that things like black holes, strangelets and (sigh) dark matter exist, I got a bridge to sell you in brooklyn. It's all bullcrap folks, and it's bad for ya! So don't fear, lhc will be happily wasting taxpayer money doing their ridiculous experiments for many years. The only black hole they are creating is a money hole, money in, nothing out....

Anyway, the cosmic radiation hits our atmosphere all the time with the same power of the particle beams in th LHC and yet, there are no black holes spontaneously occurring. Hence there either can't be any black holes or they instantly disappear.

Blackholes do exist, a blackhole is just wen a mass gets so great that it collapses to form a highly dense matter which has so much mass compared to its size that time and space itself is affected by it. Now if you created this matter at this density, but only a few atoms big, it might weigh 50kg but will just collapse because it doesnt have the pressure from its gravity to be sustained. This is how it happens.

let's make it really simple, yes you can generate a black hole on earth IF you have enough energy to crush the particles together close enough, and create a ball of mass strong enough to attract more mass exponentially eventually crushing the entire planet, however that requires a certain amount of mass, like a reverse nuclear reaction 'critical mass' will not be achieved within CERN, and we are not pumping in enough energy to make the atoms bind anyway, so it is completely safe.

Well, realistically and it's something everyone should realize, the energies the LHC is capable of achieving are no where close to the energy of particle collisions within our own atmostphere from cosmic rays. Besides, the theoretical possibility only includes mini-black holes which decay so quickly they wouldn't exist for long.
