  • Obi-Wan in my opinion was the best part of the prequels because it was cool seeing him in his prime.

  • Ewan (and obiwan) are kinda cute. Pleasing to the ear and eye. ;D

  • Alec Genius taught him well, he sounds a lot like him. I didn't think he sounded like him in real life, good casting. even if the dialogue sucked in the prequals.

  • Obi Wan is my favorite character from the precuel triglogy

  • In 20 years people will appreciate the prequels more because they will have an element of classic to them

  • so... who is the midget who played as Yoda?

  • i had a crush on Ewan when i was younger

  • lol cheeky is the best word to describe Anakin

  • 6:24 - Epic joke is epic

  • He and swordfights were the only good things about new trilogy

  • @Schizm1 what about Darth Maul???

  • @HenryJonesVictor Well sure, he was cool too but Lucas of course had to ruin everything by killing him in first movie :/

  • @Schizm1 there is no death, there is only the force

  • 6:28....sex god....

  • Ewan McGregor, prettty much on his own, is the highlight of the prequel trilogy. The only somewhat decent actor.

  • i find ewan as obi wan very attractive. 0.0

  • Wedge was Ewan's uncle, who knew.

  • Ewan McGregor did GREAT as Obi-Wan, I don't think he beat Alec Guinness.

  • @sgauden02 It would be extremely hard to be a better Obi Wan than Alec, but as you said, Ewan was a great Obi Wan and I think Alec would of been proud of his performance, unfortunatly the prequels didn't live up to the original films, but it's a high bar that had been set. How many top 100 movie lists have we seen where a SW movie is No.1? As many ppl have I have all 6 films, and watch them all from time to time. Love all of them. The prequels are not bad, just not as good.

  • @PowaShammy Yeah. As I said Ewan didn't beat Alec, but he did incredible. And yeah, of course the prequels were as popular, but I didn't hate them either. There are some who think they should redo the prequels, but in my opinon, the only prequel that I'd redo is "The Phamtom Menace". It wasn't terrible, but it was probably the worst of the prequels. Darth Maul should've had a larger role, and should've been the main villian and not Nute Gunray. But Ewan did GREAT as Obi-Wan.

  • obi wan saved the prequels

  • Comment removed

  • I did NOT know that his uncle played the part of the most notable side character (as Wedge survives all three films and even plays a large role in destroying the second Death Star).

  • Obi Wan aged a lot in 20 years. Aside from that I think the casting was near perfect.

  • @Gamebox27 Well, it was 20 years on the harsh world of Tatooine, barely scraping by as a hermit.

  • @Gamebox27 Keep in mind makeup in the 70's wasn't that great, plus star wars had a limited budget. Alec Guiness, who already looked older than he was at the time, 62, had to play a 57 year old. They tried to make Ewan look older in the 3rd movie, but Obi Wan is only supposed to be in his late 30's at that point. I'm sure in hindsight, Lucas would have put more effort into making Guiness look a bit younger

  • Honestly the prequels are "different films" The originals were the classic, adventure movies based on old cereals with classic hero figures. The prequels were focused more on the political aspect.I think its a good thing, I wanna know what the republic was like before it fell. Ewan also did 100 percent great. He is like Alec if he was younger and he nailed the voice and mannerisms correctly

  • Has anyone noticed that when Obi Wan has long hair, he looks like Jesus.

  • @SonicNewsCentral So you know how Jesus looks... interesting, I though he was black.

  • @ChuckPalomo It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. *facepalm*

  • haha "shadowy blue guy"

  • Obi wan is my favorite jedi

  • what movie was this out of

  • is this a special feature on the new blu-ray? or is this just on the dvd

  • OMG, his uncle is Wedge? that's awesome

  • Ewan McGregor is amazing yes, but the prequels would have been so much better if someone would have stood up to George Lucas and told him that he was screwing the story up from time to time.

  • Ewan Mcgregor was a fantastic younger Obi Wan. Everything else about the prequels blew.

  • @ThatSwimGuy I wouldn't say that, Ian McDiarmid was great in the prequels too.

  • @Largemanofmordor Ah, agreed. Ewan and Ian absolutely rocked their roles. He was an amazing Emperor for the entire saga.

  • @ThatSwimGuy Eeyup. Whenever I bash the prequels, I make sure to insert certain exceptions. Ewan and Ian McDiarmid totally rocked their roles, Darth Maul was frankly cool, and the worlds created in those films were beautiful and amazing. Unfortunately, so much time was spent on them that the writing and directing kind of went to hell, leaving it with much to love but so much bad substance.

  • they put make up on his face hence the contrast between his neck

  • @blikbleek

Me too, he should have ended him right then and there. I thought that was the whole point of going to Mustafar in the first place. Would have saved a lot of lives, that's for sure.

  • I hope you all know that star wars was hay dens real big break and obviously he wouldn't be as good as the other actors who had about 15 or 20 years of acting experience Hayden still did a good job with what he was given and he captured the teenage feelings and anger perfectly

  • is he wearing a big jedi mullet

  • @marioandsonic2008 Yeah, let's just say that whoever thought Jedi needed mullets should have facepalmed. And if they didn't do one, I'd do it for them.

  • Obi wan and darth sidious/ the emperor were the only two parts that wer portrayed perfectly by their actors in the prequels

  • @griffmundo Not so difficult for Ian McDiarmid though

  • the prequels have a ton of haters, ESB is still my fave movie of them all BUT RotS is a really great moive, it has his moments, yeah anakin was turned to a sith too quickly but lucas had no space for being creative, i love it

  • i´d love to be Ewans best friend

  • Ok, he was the best or maybe the only good actor in the prequels (or at least the only actor who had an opportunity to give life to his character). The only one that really seems to be a Jedi, in his facial expressions etc.

  • @CanalTal But he still doesn´t reach even Alec´s feet. We should show more respect for Alec Guiness, he was the one who truly gave life to Obi Wan in the first place. But ok congratulations because Ewan not only did well but he also performed well facing mostly blue and green screens and not the real scenario and people, which is really a challenge.

  • @CanalTal

I thought that McDiarmid, Neeson, Lee, Jackson, and Smitts were also very good in their roles. Really my only problems with the acting are the two actors of Anakin and Ahmed Best as Jar Jar.

  • Ewan McGregor certainly turned Obi Wan into the ultimate ''Jedi sex symbol'' ;) I hope some day soon, they will film a movie about Obi Wan's life and of course Ewan McGregor will be starring!!!!!

  • yeah and siris gonna be in it

  • Thumbs up if you agree that prequel haters totally underrate Ewan's fantastic performances as Obi-Wan.

  • @SLPIFan

The guy had no emotion, and no arc! He would be creepily stoic for all the dialogue scenes, and then once there was any action at all he would start yelling. It made no sense whatsoever in terms of human emotion. Ewan did a good job with the stuff he was given, but the writing was a steaming pile of horseshit.

  • @00maharum00ma

I really disagree with that. The only one I thought he was weak in was PHANTOM MENACE. No emotion. He has several great scenes with Anakin where we can see his caring and friendship with him (elevator scene in ATTACK, Their exchange when returning from the Invisible Hand and as he prepares to leave for Utapau in REVENGE) And he was fantastic during the "You were my brother" speech. He also displayed a sense of humor throughout. And what was Obi-Wan's arc in the OT, dying?

  • @SLPIFan

In the elevator, we never actually see them acting as friends. We're just told about adventures we never saw and know nothing about. The whole bit about "this weapon is your life" pissed me off beyond reason because it totally fucked over everything Yoda ever said. The "you were my brother" thing is powerful if you believe it, which I didn't.

Obi-Wan ain't supposed to be funny, he's supposed to be wise. And yes, his arc was dying in the OT, namely the acceptance of death.

  • @00maharum00ma (Cont)

Mind you I do love Alec Guinness in the role and I would say Obi-Wan did have something of an arc in the PT. we see him go from student, to a struggling and overly critical mentor, to the more relaxed Obi-Wan we see in REVENGE and the OT.

  • @SLPIFan

His personality shouldn't change from uptight to relaxed, either. He's very calm and wise in new hope, but not relaxed. If he had gone from aggressive and headstrong (ie Anakin in Clones) to calm and wise it would have worked. Since he's so stoic in Phantom, and doesn't want to train Anakin at all, complains and insults him through all of Clones, and never trusts him, it makes no sense that he'd suddenly love him in Revenge, and remember him fondly in New Hope.

  • Comment removed

  • @00maharum00ma

By relaxed I basically meant calm and probably mixed up definitions.Whatever the case by EpIII he seemed more like classic Obi-Wan. But I've gotta ask.Have you seen any teenager that hasn't had a lot angst with their parents and their teachers?I will say I do think the major issue with the PT is that it spread itself thin with 13 years compared to the OT, so we saw a lot more of the tense stuff in AOTT, but the first half of EpIII did a good job showing their friendship.

  • @00maharum00ma (Cont)

And let's be honest. Nothing I say's gonna convince you of anything. Nothing you say is going to make me hate him or the films. So we probably should just drop this now before we waste too much of our time.

  • @00maharum00ma just because he yells at him doesnt mean he never loved him xD. your so stupid he wouldnt teach him for over 10 years if he didnt even like him. wow common sense.

  • @samrossdress4less

They are CHARACTERS in a MOVIE. I didn't get to see those 10 years! I get to see a short period in their lives. It's the filmmakers job to make me FEEL their relationship. If I can't believe they care about each other, then it isn't my fault for being stupid, it's Lucas' fault for writing shitty characters.

  • @00maharum00ma its not lucas fault its the writers, i dont blame the actors they tried there best, i think they really should have stepped up the quality instead of releying on favorties like han solo in the older ones.

  • @samrossdress4less

Lucas wrote the prequels almost entirely by himself. Jonathan Hales helped with Clones, but Lucas was by far the head writer. I don't blame the actors either, I blame him.

  • @SLPIFan Ewan did fine. Thats not why those movies sucked.

  • @SLPIFan I personally find the prequels interesting mainly for the backstory because honestly I don't believe they were as well done. However, I have always told my friends that Obi-Wan (Ewan) is amazing and the best part of the prequels.

  • @bedajo28

The PT undeniably has its weaknesses, but I feel people generalize the acting in them to being bad when really I don't think too many of them were. The problem was that the person who was essentially their lead (Hayden Christensen) himself was very weak. Along with Jake Lloyd, Ahmed "Jar Jar" Best, and Natlie Portman at times. For instance I thought both McGregor (he was a bit weak in Ep I, but great in II & III) and Ian McDiarmid were fantastic in their roles.

  • @SLPIFan McGregor and Mcdiarmid were perfect for the roles, but i think that Portman exceptionally good in the movies considering her age and thinking what she has achieved today... but love ewan:) always disliked anakin...not hated but disliked the character... and jar jar was just a replacement of 3PO as a comic relief?...

  • @SLPIFan I gave a thumbs-up, but I do not quite agree with you. I hate the prequels because of their terrible writing and a focus on CGI over acting, but Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan was fantastic. It's because of his performance that Obi-Wan has become my favorite Jedi of all time (Yoda a close second), and the very symbol of what they're supposed to be. What's more, he was very convincing as a younger version of the character as portrayed by Alec Guiness.

  • @TheZacula I completely agree with you. I think that the way they portrayed Obi-Wan in the first 3 films, really fleshed out his character well. It's a weird thing that Obi-Wan is essentially the perfect Jedi. Since Jedi's always talk about balance in the force. The truth was most Jedi's didn't have balance. Yoda was leaning far on the light side. Mace was spiking with his attitude, same as Luke. Anekin was dragging to the dark side.Only Obi-Wan was really Jedi and Human at the same time.

  • @waitingformypopcorn

I would add Ian McDiarmid as Palpatine to that list. I thought he was fantastic.

  • @SLPIFan they underrate everything about them

  • @SLPIFan I Don't Get the Hate towards The Prequels, I Love em, especially episode I and III!

  • @blikbleek what do you think he is going to do help a guy on fire

  • No way, Dennis Lawson is Ewan McGregor's uncle? He was Mr. Jarndyce in Bleak House!

  • OK OK if I film any movie, I will hire Ewan McGregor.

  • Ewan did a good job of being a younger version of Obi Wan than anyone else could have.

  • ill always prefer alec guiness as obi wan, but ewan did the most fantastic job at playing a younger obi wan

  • I keep repeating 6:32-6:36. LOL!

  • Ewan Mcgregor is probably indirect reason why I started watching star wars.Few years ago I watched Long way round -a documentary in which Ewan and his best friend Charley travel around the world on bikes.I thought it was the best documentary of that type ever so I became interested in McGregor's other roles.Trainspotting was the first thing I watched.Recently I re watched LWR and later LWD.Throughout both there were references to SW.I did watch old SW when I was a kid but now it was new xp

  • OBI WAN KENOBI! I LOVE YOU!

  • Ewan mcgregor was good. but he still aint as good as Alec Guinness!!

  • @metalgta4xcon

    Mcgregor is better..

  • @CmdkyL Lolwut. McGregor did great, the best character in the prequels, but no one will be as good as the Guinness.

  • @KramLlessur

Ewan played his role like Star Wars was real. Guinness is still good too but Ewan had more emotions in his actions.

  • I bet he regrets doing the movies now lol

  • Lol @ 6:25 - Obi-Wan going a bit TOO far with the old lightsaber lol!

  • Obi-Wan is awesome! =D

  • get the let with you

  • obi-wan is my favorite thumps up if u agree

  • "is he wearing the big jedi mullet? top man!" :D

  • Ewan e wan Obi wan notice the wan in the names? he was made to play obi wan

  • People i want to meet in my lifetime

    3. Alec guiness( if he is alive?)

    2.Ewan McGregor

    1.EWAN MCGREGOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @cheeseburgermovies Alec died in 2000 unfortunately.

  • He is perfect for the role as Obi Wan.

  • he looks so much like my pe teacher mr kaiser

  • Ewan McGregor saved the franchise

  • Obi Wan: "You will be a Jedi, I promise."

    Anakin: *Shakes head in agreement*

Obi Wan: "But not a Jedi Master, because you'll fuck it up by breaking the code and falling in love."

  • Ewan and Ian McDiarmid gave great and the most underrated performances of the franchise.

  • i love Ewen! and obi wan has always been my favorite character even in the original trilogy

  • OMG HE'S SO FLIPPIN' PRETTY!!! *spazzes out*

  • 4:26 <3

  • Best scottish actor since Sean Connery. Easily the best part of the prequels.

  • ewan mcgregor was a much better actor than hayden christiansen, but its probably due to the fact that he was older and more experienced. i think its going a bit far to say that christiansen failed completely as anakin skywalker.it could have been better but he was better than some other actors u can name

  • 0:44 "DATS WHAT SHE SAID"

  • ewan did such a grand job portraying obi-wan. they're right, he did it so well you could believe he was the same character from the original trilogy.

if only we could say the same for hayden christenson.

  • Just love this scene at about 6:32

    "Oh, sorry... lol" xD

  • Ewan is absolutely wonderful. He came to my school to speak with the film and theatre students. He is everything they say and more. He is one of the few redeemable things of the prequels.

  • who here thinks ewan is the coolest thing since sliced bread and the cutest thing since....i dont know.

  • That is so weird! Wedge and Obi Wan-Prequels Were like my favorite characters and I had no idea they were related!

  • Ewan..Great Actor

  • The producer has a proper wonky left eyebrow! =]

  • lmao shadowy blue guy

  • I`m George, I am responsible for all this: he says that every time when he is with all the actor around the table

  • ewan mcgregor is cool

  • Sub me i am obi wan!

  • What does Ewan McGregor say at 6:25?

  • @drtrekwars I think he said "HELP! MAIS!". Like as in Mais Windu but I'm not sure.

  • @thedorkthatyoulove it's Mace Windu ;)

  • @SSJ3Croat Oh ok. See I wasn't entirely sure.

  • @thedorkthatyoulove just wanted to help :)

  • Am I the only one who thinks this? Ewan McGregor looks a little bit like Eddie Izzard? I don't know why, but whenever I see Ewan McGregor in an interview, I just link him to Eddie Izzard. Oh and btw if you don't know who Eddie Izzard is, he is a trasvestite comedian.

  • McGregor definitely made the prequels worthwhile, otherwise it would be a complete loss. The green screens make me sad.

  • Oops I made a typo. Ewan McGregor is my favorite actor

  • Hzjs

  • He crops up now and again as a shadowy blue guy.

I laugh so hard everytime I hear him say that.

  • @EYDstudios so do I lol!

  • where is this from? I know I have seen this before, i am thinking it might be on one of the dvds but i am not quite sure. can you please tell me where you found this. if not then that is fine. this is cool!!!!!!! ewan mcgregor is obi-wan ;)

  • @soccerdork20 It's a specials feature on the ROTS dvd. The parts we all the little web bits, I think.

  • hate you

  • It wasn't until the 2nd movie that I noticed that Ewan has a mole in the center of his forehead... and then I couldn't stop staring at it ._.

  • @sangheilisniper WELL THANKS ALOT, GUY

  • Obi Wan is by far the best looking Jedi ever. (Okay maybe besides Qui Gon) And the way Ewan seems to morph into Obi Wan is amazing. It's like if you meet Ewan on the streets you'd call him Obi Wan instead of his real name!!! It's like Pierce Brosnan and James Bond. And that beard really makes Ewan look so mature and handsome!!

  • best. ewan mcgregor is my favorite actor.

  • Very insightful clip, man. Ewan was pretty kickass at Obi-Wan.

    For more Star Wars, visit:

    j e d i . n e t

  • I wanted to see Obi talk to Qui Gon in Ep3

  • 5.10 omg it's Rolf Harris =P

  • 1:14 lol the glasses 1:16 in more ways than one george!

  • 0:48 "look at the size of that thing"

  • 0:19 sounds more like George Lucas is a principal and Ewan is a student who just came into the office!

  • Obi-Wans' wisdom, insight, and knowledge of the Force is beyond many others. He's by far the very best in my book, Thanks for posting

  • Can anyone tell me what part in Star Wars 3 where Obi Wan is talking to Padme?? I cant seem to find it. I am not talking about the bit where Obi tells Padme that Ani is in grave danger and he must go and stop him. If you look at 6.41 to 6.43 in this you can see that Padme is talking to Obi Wan but can any one tell me which part of the movie that is? Padme is wearing that green dress not the blue one...help? please comment

  • I think that is the part where Obi-Wan is telling Padme about Anakin.

They are just smiling because it's not Obi-Wan talking, it's Ewan, and him and Natalie are just talking to each other between takes..

    I think.

  • maybe a deleted scene?

  • Of course Obi Wan is the best Character and the best Jedi! Even tho he is always getting saved by Ani lol!

  • At least its not Macgregors fault tht the prequels suck...

  • 6:41 Ewan is so cute :)

  • Comment removed

  • 2:57, oh my heart.

  • you are such a freak allie

  • Ewan made the Prequel IMO

  • Obi-Wan is my favorit hero he is... cool man :P

  • obi wan definetly stole the show in all three prequel films. he was my favorite part ^_^

  • @sorsaria Mine, too. Ewan McGregor was absolutely great in that role.

  • @sorsaria yeah, he recaptured the character so well, everyone could believe that he would become the Alec Guiness version in the later trilogy.

to bad the same couldn't be said for Hayden Christensen

  • @beauferret *sigh* too true. I had high hopes for Anakin :(

  • How in the world???

  • Oh, Ewan..!! <3

  • ewan did an amazing job as obi-wan he is so charismatic and so cute!!!! i coulnd't think of anyone else playing him and to the person who said they hated luke... he wasnt a terrible character just a little bit to whiney lol

  • if i had to choose yoda or obi-wan kenobi i would choose obi-wan

  • whats his accent?

  • scottish

  • His uncle was Wedge Antilles!! :O

  • Good to hear Ewan was so dedicated to making the character feel more like Alec Guinness, Alec Guiness originally made Obi-Wan feel like the wise warm character he is.
