  • I start with alot of dead butterflies. I am still perfecting the process of shaping the wings and adding weight were necessary, but there are enough butterflies which end up properly trim and balanced that I can put on a show before the butterfly gets out of whack either through a bad crash or its wings warping out of trim. Hope that run-on sentace helps...

  • That's cool. The butterfly looks like a real (but dead and dried) Morpho specimen. The cameraman walked behind it as it flew forward, with that sheet of plastic right below. The plastic sheet is held at an angle so it deflects the airflow upwards under the glider, providing lift. It glided very well for a dead butterfly!

  • jcmegabyte is correct. The butterfly is trimmed for a slow flight and will glide quite some distance on its own without the paddle's updraft. An updraft is created as the pilot guides the paddle in formation underneath the free flying butterfly.

  • Awesome... Is it a real butterfly?

How is it gliding so nicely?

  • interesting howzit done?
