im confused. that last clip, the black and white one, looks really old but that looks like helen mirren is playing elizabeth-but wouldnt she be too young or non existant at that time?(im guessing the movie was made in the early 1950s id says)
It's funny how in the old days kings allways wanted sons to rule and most did but then again Elizabeth I lead England into an golden age, i don't recall any male's doing that. for the record im a male.
@TheIcelandicPatriot There were a few good kings that England had. In fact, I suspect Elizabeth might get some of her temperament from her grandfather, Henry VII. It was Henry Tudor who brought stability at last to Britain after the War of the Roses. It was Henry who brought 2 houses wrought asunder together by marrying Elizabeth of York, and (unusual for the times) he seems to have genuinely loved her and wasn't interested in mistresses. he wasn't too good on foreign policy, (cont)
@TheIcelandicPatriot but it is arguable that the tide of history was against him: by then, France as a country had begun to coalesce and congeal so the only thing left was to cosy up to Isabella and Ferdinand.
Also, Edward I. A great warrior abroad and at home, good. Here was a man who adored his wife. He used to make his chambermaids pay ransom to get him out of bed so he could spend the weeks after Lent with his Eleanor. Lord knows he was wild for her: pregnant 16 times!!
It pisses me off when I watch dramas like The Tudors that completely exaggerates everything. Henry was probably not that worried about his first child. He was probably disappointed, but not terribly so because many royals had sons after they had a daughter. Anne was probably more remorseful than Henry, although she turned out to be a dedicated mother.
Am I the only one that thinks the word "SUCKER" was stamped on Henry VIIIs head for expecting a boy only to have a girl & not a just a girl but a girl who became his one true heir instead of sickly Edward
Does anyone happen to know what movie or documentary that was - when Elizabeth was walking in that very green place with the pond - during that clip...?
I don't believe Kings of England were called "Your Majesty" until the 17th century. Prior to that, it was always "Your Grace". I think it is awful when historical films, even historical fiction, make no effort to be historically accurate.
is there a part 2 to this ? if so please link me

My favorite Elizabeths have to be Cate Blanchett and Helen Mirren.

Me, too! I also liked how Bette Davis portrayed her -- she looked so much like the Queen did in that "Spanish Armada" portrait.

Actually, Henry VIII was the first to be called "Your Majesty." The films do have it right.

Are you sure you're right? If so, many thanks for that piece of information! I love historical accuracy.
