man, i kno ur not a teacher or whatev but i got a Q. When i play these arps to a metronome over and over, i can play them pretty solid, but its quite another story when i try to throw them into an improv. Whats the best way to practice for this?

@ArcaneLifeforce666 it depends on your backing track. sweep-licks are usually meant for only that particular backing track, and you almost always have to alter them somehow to improv it on another.

@guitarshredder47 It's not as much about how long you play, but rather what you do with your time. Like I've been playing the guitar since I was 14 (when chris said he really started getting serious) and am now 23, but I've never taken it extremely seriously and therefore can't play anywhere near as well as feener does.

And though hours spent playing dont ever hurt, you wont keep progressing if you dont focus on certain techniques/knowledge of music where improvement is needed.

On another note, Chris have you ever heard the solo in the song Winter Madness by the band Wintersun?

It's pretty out of hand, with lots of alternate picking and sweeping stuff blended together, and I think you could do an absolutely killer cover of it.

There's a few videos of bys attempting it on here, but I know yours would completely desecrate them! Anyways, check it out if you get a chance, if you want to that is haha.
