that doesn't mean the F-22 stops flying. It only means they're not built anymore. Why are the Sweds making such a big deal out of landing on a road? the the road is long ang good enough (like the ones they use in Sweden), any plane can do that in any country.

Yes the F-22 is better. But note: it is mainly used for air to air, not air to ground and the costs of the plane are far higher. Don't know what the Gripen would be capable of at the price.

Sweden is on of the few, if not the only, country that uses ''normal'' roads (they're still whider and flatter then any other normal road in sweden. I know cause I go to Sweden almost every year...

So its basicly a short runway. Realy.. any modern fighter which can land within the same distance as a Gripen can land on it.

now that's a comment that makes sence. But the plane can still land. The runway won't break instantly so it does not prohibit the plane to land. And if it the road does wear out,it can be easily fixed. The other planes are at least 2 tons heavier (EMPTY).

Since a road is made out of the exact same material as a runway, it does not matter.

Heavier aircraft may land on normal road but dangerous to take off again using the same 'runway'. Road damaged by pressure of aircraft landing can't be fix easily.

(I know because I study that kinda stuff on the university). Why would it be dangerous taking off from the same runway? The damafe isn't instant, only after some time and CAN be easily fixed. But the Gripen does have an advantge

this is a good jet but not comparable with the u.s. f 22.The comment from str8erthanu has some merit but ur talking about only 1 plane & i dont know if the grippen is better than f 35.Might b but its the best jet saab or sweeden has made.The f35 is not americas premiere jet.Anyway saab is mainly a car manufacture lockheed martin is soley a defense contracter that only builds millitary hardware.Therefore they have a richer tradition and more experience building high quality jets.

@verko9 well, actually, it´s to seperate companies, SAAB Aero, was the first "SAAB" company, and they only build Airplanes, and from that company SAAB automovtive was created. so... SAAB is Primarily a Defence contractor. and they have been making Fighter planes since 1942.

btw, Problemet med SD är att dom vill ha ut ALLA invandrare. Jag har inget emot invandrare, men pga Mona sahlin så har vi massinvandring. Plus att bara Södertälje har tagit emot fler irakiska flyktingar än Hela USA.

JAS 39 Gripen is one of the best planes in the world. Much longer distance, faster speed and higher quality than the shitty americas plane that norway bought. The reason JAS 39 crashed during show/test flying is Completely qoincidence.

And the F35 and JAS 39 is both multitask planes. They serve for same tasks, just that americans wont admit that sweden, or other countrys, have better tech than the US. ( not everything but much)

America had only 2 true fighters in my opinion:

F18 Hornet and F14 Tomcat (retired ) .
