Don't talk to me about auto tune, I am a music producer and have been working with this stuff for close to 8 years now, the vocals in this are not "wet with auto tune", the effect used is subtle.
I used to be like you when I had less wisdom about these things, thinking that singing was about being in tune without auto tune or digital effects, so don't think I'm criticising you. One day you might understand what I mean. Vocals are about much more than "he does it without digital help".
@GetInThaKitchen I'm in music since nine or ten years perhaps. Let's just say a little fanatic myself on producing sith I have a band and learnt everything on my account. Although this track is not only wet with autotune, but edtited with melodyne or autune's manual mode and full of fx! I really adored LP, but I heard his singing thru camera, the same song, this song! And it was a falsetto to say the least. He is a human, Jesus was a human.
@GetInThaKitchen I can sing somewhat better, not bragging, don't get me wrong. But, I edit my voice, I edit everyone's else's voice with autotune who sings quite well or even great, and with melodyne and autotune who can't sing quite well. You must sing well, there's no excuse for no software or solid state will replace that! But nowadays the listener's ears have become so sensitive, they hear the teeniest of wrong note- that is why it must be tuned, similar to an instrument.
@GetInThaKitchen if any of the vocals or harmonies are off a bit, your ears get bruised- here in this video and in every song I ever heard from LP most especially in "In The End" bridge part :"I've put my trust..."the vocal are tuned, i can hear the modulation caused by it. I here it here as well but very subtly. When I edit before mixing stage, I remove every breath modulation and replace them, with the original, those are the giveaways.
@LeechesInMyBlood Everything lies in the microscopic subtlety of never being noticed it was autotuned. That's what I'm aiming for myself. Sorry if I offended you or questioned your knowledge in any form, I didn't meant that. Just wrote my own experiences down. I myself lack a lot of knowledge, not being near to a musician or engineer, but I spent my days on learning, and someday I'll get there. :)
@LeechesInMyBlood I know what you are talking about, what you are on about is the way that auto tune affects vibrato, you can hear it more obviously by the way it effects vibrato. I disagree completely that if vocals are off a bit in terms of pitch that it hurts the ears, in my experience it is a change in the character of the voice which hurts our ears, and that is usually accompanied by flat notes (I'm talking about yelling, pulling chest voice etc.). It's cool that you like to produce too!
@GetInThaKitchen I agree, my ears won't be affected or hurt at all. I like like things slightly off, because I vouch for natural sound! I've listened to Iridescent, and a comment complained about, that the song must be louder! I think LP has now the power to market less compressed tracks. Let's hope someday we'll promote talent much more than exaggeration and abundant tumult of noise trying to replace the lacks. Yeah, producing is the hollow of music and the heart is the music itself. :)
You know, ever since his time with Fort Minor, Mike Shinoda's definitely embraced hip hop a lot more than he did when Linkin Park first started coming around. It's not a bad change. He's a pretty decent MC.
@jonathan94082 You gotta have the instrumental and the original song, then with audacity you can ( its very hard to do ) split words superimposing the 2 tracks.. look for tutorials on the web :)
Hey Chaz, I have a bud who's obsessed with the song "Lying from you" by Linkin Park, and your acapellas are hands down the best. Is there anyway you could put I an acapella of that? I'd forever be grateful!
none of any nu metal singers can ACTUALLY sing as good as chester does. im talking about "singing", with melodies, not just screaming or other things do
@1747CT Meh, I'd say Corey Taylor and Serj Tankian are equals to Chester. Whoever is better is opinion-based. I prefer Chester's voice type, then Corey. Love all three though.
@BGLinkinPark Thanks, but I have an instrumental :P Already recorded the cover, just contemplating whether or not I'm gonna upload it. People don't like my singing :P
I don't think this can be DONE. I remember this being released right before the album was out, so most likely it can't be done with other songs...just the ones LP has released without music
@rikomenzies With and without, it isnt important to me whether a singer is perfectly in tune or not, its more important that their voice is believable and interesting sounding. What would you rather listen to? Britney Spears auto tuned, or Chester Benington without auto tune? I know my answer lol.
@GetInThaKitchen I'm not talking about Chester being perfectly in tune. You're referencing a track that's wet with autotune. I've heard this guy live. He's good. Not the best.
Interesting-sounding? Unless he's screaming, Chester's singing is more safe than interesting.
Freddie Mercury. Listen to his phrasing, his melody lines, his inflection, the amount of control he has... *that* is interesting, and he does it without digital help.
