Unlike Sbongile Khumalo who steals Xhosa songs from Xhosa musos, Letta and other Xhosas rarely sing in Zulu. They do use words here and there but they almost never sing in Zulu.
I'm not your brother. Of course I despise the Zulus, is there anything not to despise about you lot. You are not a Xhosa, you cant be both, no Xhosa claims you. No we cant get along, go try to get along and stop killing one another in KZN.
Theres a BIG difference between Xhosas and Zulus go produce your own talet and stop claiming Xhosas as your own. Sbongile Khumalo steals Xhosa songs from Xhosas, Xhosa artists dont become Zulus when when they use Zulu words here and there.
If u mean sis' Letta MbuLu, shes very happy in her native South Africa. Like many black South Africans she got very ill in the USA and other countries, ill from home sickness, she has to be here in SA for her own health. Her Xhosa ancestors want her home. Many black SA exiles had seasonal migraine headaches and other illnesses that disappeared when they came back home. Letta was one of them, she said it on tv that she got physically ill in exile.
Love, love, LOVE this joint. It's on Hugh Masekela's "The Chisa Years." It's my favorite track on the album. I remember hearing it on "The No. 1 Lady's Detective Agency" show too.
Great song! I know it form the live version Letta sang on Harry Belafonte's live album "Belafonte...Live!" from 1972, when she toured with him as his guest artist.
goddammit, David Axelrod you are probably the best arranger/composer/producer of your time, if only you were still at it today, maybe music would sound a bit better.
This song just says the same thing over and over again. think of it in the context of the time it was produced like the 70's 80's basically during apartheid in S.A.
uMahlalela is an unemployed person or your ordinary average joe (sort of). in the context of the song I'd say uMahlalea is the type of person you'd count on to be at riots, protests or pickets basically.
the song just says ' I'll call upon uMahlalea" like anything that pertains to uMahlalea intrinsically involves him, and what involves him he acts upon... does that make any sense to you?
hope this helps you shed some light to the lyrical content of the song
If you want a full dual-translation (the language the song is sang in and in english) just let me know.
And if you are not a Xhosa OR ne of those who chose to abandon the country you are not qualified to translate a language you know nothing or verty little about.
The song is sung in Zulu.

Damn. My bad brother. I'm Xhosa and Zulu, so I guess I don't see the difference. I sense you despise the Zulu. But can't we all just get along?
