This is why it's genius; It's a viral music video when viral videos were obscure compared to their current ubiquitous presence. Like OK, GO music videos, but creative instead of simply glomming onto the popularity of viral videos.

Aside from that, the concept itself is funny: Come up with an amateurish dance routine and then spring it on the unwitting public while pretending to be a serious dance troupe. If you think the video is bad because the dancing sucks, YOU JUST DON'T GET THE JOKE!

i hav an amazing taste for art especially as people in my family like my grandad were artists who sold alot of paintings, ok youve probably never heard of them but still. But im sorry that i dont like dancing, and i dont consider it and art either. I spelled the director's name wrong; It is Spike Jonze, not Spike Jones and he is very much alive. Watch some more of his other videos and/or films and you'll get a better idea about his style of directing. It's not the dancing that makes this video art, it's the replication of the community theatre parody. Let's take a look at his video for the Beastie Boy's "Sabotage," it's not supposed to thrill the audience with special effects, it is supposed to make fun of d 80's police films.

i remember the very first time i saw this video i was like "what the fuck are they doin???" i mean if this is meant to have been choreographed that the people look like they can't dance, then they succeeded cuz i've NEVER thought the dancing in this video was ever really QUALITY at all!! great song! definitely a TOP techno song in the history of electronic music! along with rockafeller skank, and block rockin beats as well.
