Umar (RA) was so traumatized by the death of the prophet(SAWS) that he did not want to accept that it had really happened and thought it was untrue, thus he said what he said. Abu Bakr when realising that Umar(RA) wasn't in the right state of mind took leadership and told everyone that the prophet (SAWS) has indeed passed away but Allah is ever-living and still deserves our worship and devotion.

If it is the prophet(SAWS) is alive as the sufis say, then why did Abu Bakr(RA) say "fa innahu qad maata" and qad is used for emphasis in the Arabic language. Then to prove his point Abu Bakr read an ayah from the Quran as daleel for his point, so that means that this ayah is telling s that the prophet is going to pass away like the prophets before him.

Umar (RA) was so traumatized by the death of the prophet(SAWS) that he did not want to accept that it had really happened and thought it was untrue, thus he said what he said. Abu Bakr when realising that Umar(RA) wasn't in the right state of mind took leadership and told everyone that the prophet (SAWS) has indeed passed away but Allah is ever-living and still deserves our worship and devotion.

@chishty786 this is known amongst every scholar of the past, that Umar(RA) didn't want to accept because it was so difficult for them to. If it is the prophet(SAWS) is alive as the sufis say, then why did Abu Bakr(RA) say "fa innahu qad maata" and qad is used for emphasis in the Arabic language. Then to prove his point Abu Bakr read an ayah from the Quran as daleel for his point, so that means that this ayah is telling s that the prophet is going to pass away like the prophets before him.

@chishty786 When Umar heard this Ayah he fell down, he himself says it was as though as if I had heard this ayah for the first time, after hearing Abu Bakr's speech and the ayah Umar accepted the reality that indeed the prophet(SAWS) has passed away. This is how the greatest of people after the prophets understood it so why do we have such an issue. the hadith which mentions that the prophets are alive in their graves is talking about al hayatul barzakhiyyah not dunyawiyyah
