  • My g2s screen is going black but then it will turn back on and be working perfectly fine for a day or so and then goes black again for around two days. Is there something besides the screen wrong? or should i just replace the screen?

  • I wonder if you can help, my brother HTC Desire Z had a cracked digitizer so I changed it and went without an hitch until it was closed back and the screen would not turn on. After verification I noticed that some crystal on the LCD leaked (really a small portion and not sure how) so he ordered a new LCD. I then installed it very carefully, reassembled the phone and still no picture. The phone boot up properly and can receive call but screen stay black. I reseated the LCD connecting but nothing,

  • @SkinnyVinnie514 I see. Appears you checked the correct things in order, however, I would now suggest also taking a look at the "slide" flex cable and making sure that connection is good, both from the screen assembly, and the connection on the motherboard itself.

  • ok i took the fone a part and i found out the issue. it's the large flex cable with the pop connector that's shown at 4:44 and i dont see a replacement on ur site for it. what part must i buy if this cable is cut or damage

  • @jgilsonpaul Correct, we currently do not have this part available. It can be referred to as a "slide flex cable" or "motherboard flex cable".

  • Hi. Do I need any tape for this replacing?

  • @joepapa1800 Tape? As in adhesive? Yes, we suggest 3M adhesive, available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.

  • @RepairsUniverse Yes, i meant that. thnx.

  • @joepapa1800 No problem at all. This can be found under the "Repair Tools" section.

  • my screen is flickering but i can still see a bit of it when ever it stop flickering for a second. few days ago it would stopped flickering depends on how i held the phone. my screen is fine, so im assuming that it must be the cable for the screen or the sensor that autorotates the screen from landscape to portrait, what do u think?

  • @jgilsonpaul Could be a few things - A loose connection can cause this, so when you hold it with pressure in the correct spot it will fully connect and stop flickering. Or could be an issue with the slide cable, located around 4:40 in the video. Sometimes these can get loose or damaged after day to day use. I would suggest just opening it up and attempting to re-secure all the connections.

  • HAAAA!! your in henderson NV??? thats flippin hilarious... here i am going back and forth with a ebay seller in florida and you are right in my backyard... will be calling you tomorrow!!!! this is so funny.

  • @RepairsUniverse hi ordered a screen for my google HTC G2 but the screen i ordered was a HTC G2 Magic for an AT&T phone. Will it still work??

  • @ericcamp2011 Sadly no, The G2 Magic is a international model, similar to the MyTouch 3G. This screen will not be compatible with your Google G2. The correct screen can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.

  • Would replacing the screen fix the black screen of death problem?

  • @MrMetaloco That does depend on the cause of the black screen. In most cases it is a faulty LCD screen, in which case a replacement will resolve the issue. If the black screen is caused by water damage or motherboard damage, then the chances are less likely.

  • @RepairsUnivverse I just ordered a LCD for my phone because mines stop working so i am going to replace it. I hope this video helps me. I just wished that it showed me how to re-assemble the phone. Any suggestion?

  • @ericcamp2011 Very good. This is a great video for the G2, just follow it very carefully and you should have no issues. When it comes to re-assembly, follow this guide in reverse and all the steps are shown. Take it slow and be patient - is about the best advice we can give. Good luck!

  • @RepairsUniverse Can you identify the piece you removed at 2:28 in the video? Is that the wifi antenna?

  • Great instructional video. I followed your instructions and replaced my cracked touch screen. I was careful to insure I reassembled it in reverse to how I took it apart but once i got it all back together my LCD won't work. I thought there might be a problem with the touch screen I purchased so I took it apart again and put the old cracked touch screen back in place but I see the same time. DO you think I damaged the LCD somehow? Thanks.

  • @robeadam It is possible that the LCD screen was damaged, however this can also be caused by a bad connection of the LCD screen's flex cable. I would check this first. May be worth carefully checking out the LCD screen at the same time for any damage (also ripped flex cable).

  • merci, grace à votre vidéo j'ai réparé mon téléphone!!!

    Merci merci merci

  • I'm trying to hunt down the black part under the battery cover that holds the battery and sim card. I've dropped my phone 1 too many times and the clips that hold the battery cover have snapped off. Might need a replacement battery cover and microphone as well so not sure whether it will be worth repairing.

  • I'm having trouble with the microphone on my phone? The sensitivity randomly decreases, then goes back to normal. Could this be a connection problem? If not, what else could it be?

  • @snapitzkristin It is a possibility. May be worth disassembling and diagnosing the issue. Could also be a faulty mic. This can be caused by age, moisture, or water damage.

  • @snapitzkristin Yes, replacements are available online. We currently do not have any in stock, however a few online stores and local repair shops are sure to carry them.

  • @RepairsUniverse Is there a certain connector cable that corresponds to the microphone? If so, which one?

  • @snapitzkristin The mic will be a very small silver box, located on the bottom of the phone on the screen side of the slide portion. It will be connected to a small flex cable, however I believe it is normally sold without the flex.

  • First of all, thanks, I did it, but I'm having problems with the touch screen, I took it apart and assembled again, but no luck, what can it be?

  • @TheManuelmann No problem at all. Was the touch screen replaced? Normally just a connection issue. I would triple check this, also checking for damage to the touch screens flex cable. If these seem fine, I would suggest contacting the seller of the part directly for more troubleshooting information.

  • @TheManuelmann the actual touch screen portion is different from the lcd, its called the digitizer and you have to take apart a few more things to get at it.

  • I need help my screen is not damaged but the flat paper wire between the phone base and the screen is cut a little so nothing is displayed on the screen.....where can I get that screen connection? I hope you understand what I am talking about that flat wire that looks like paper between the keyboard and the screen when u flip the screen up a lil u can see it.

  • @ThatNigga10000u called it a flex connector...where can I get that at???

  • @ThatNigga10000 Yes, I do believe I know which cable you are referring to. The fatter cable that connects the screens to the motherboard. We currently do not have this part available, however you should be able to find one. May be called a motherboard flex, slide flex, or you may just be able to find it searching G2 flex cable.

  • @RepairsUniverse ima order the tools from your website but I did find a page that sells the flex wire. thanks a million man

  • @ThatNigga10000 We appreciate that. No problem at all. Let us know if you have any questions with the repair

  • I followed the instructions and got noise on my screen. Have you ever seen this problem before? What did I do wrong? I'll be going through the steps again today.

  • @Javantea Could be a few different things - Either the connection is not fully connected, the part is faulty, or the motherboard cannot relay signal through the flex cable properly (ripped cable?). I would explore these.

  • @RepairsUniverse Thanks for the quick reply. The cables looks fine visually. I can't really do much to fix the motherboard. The cable ends are pop connectors and they went on securely 3 times. Can you give any specific advice or debugging technique? From the fact that it has noise displayed we know the LCD is connected, right? Everything else on the phone is working. Could it possibly be the LCD? I'll spend a bit more time today looking and photographing it.

  • @Javantea No problem. Sounds like it is securely connected. Does not sound like the issue is the cable/connection. More likely the LCD itself. I would suggest contacting the seller of the part directly for info on troubleshooting and possible replacement/testing. Possible to swap it out for the old LCD? Unsure the damage that you had, but it may rule out nearly all other issues besides faulty LCD.

  • Does doing this break any kind of warranty repair seal? Like on the Xbox 360?

  • @Emilio842 why are you comparing a phone to an xbox 360?

  • Dear repairs universe. If my screen flickers every so often, would that be the screen that's broken? I notice I don't have that black plastic covering you're removing at 4:35. Could that be the reason my phone is acting up?

  • @ttttrigg3r Does not sound likely, however it is possible that the flex cable is being jarred loose, causing the flickering. I would disassemble the G2 and take a look at the LCD flex cable connection. Be sure it is fully in place and not moving around or pushed around.

  • For any who are stuck like I was... the black metal bar going between the two connections for the spring mechanism should be UNDER the stainless plate (the one with 20ish little holes in it).

Looking back, this is quite evident in the video... However, I still managed to waste time trying it the incorrect way.

  • Great video, thanks for taking the time to make this.

Wish I would have known about your site BEFORE I bought the parts to do this repair. I would have liked to have given you the business for making this great video.

Everything went smooth for me, except getting the damn sliding mechanism back together, it's no fun at all.

  • @B11111000011 Thank you much, glad you found it useful. We appreciate that and are happy you were able to figure it out. Keep us in mind for any of your other repair needs or if you run into any issues in the future, we will be glad to help out.

  • thank u very much, this helped alot!

  • @ipavli19 No problem at all, glad you found the video useful!

  • @RepairsUniverse just for info, i replaced my broken lcd display and it works great! :) if i ever see you in person, i'll pay you a beer! :D

  • @ipavli19 Great work! Much appreciated!

  • quick question....when replacing an LCD screen, does the cell phone information get affected/erased such as the texts msgs, contacts, or internet information??? this may seem silly, but i wasn't sure since there is a lot of taking things apart going on, so i didn't know if it affects the memory...

  • @Wdimples no, everything is stored on flash memory, it stays there even if u take apart whole device and put it back on

  • @Wdimples Great question, but no, as ipavli19 says, disassembling and replacing a screen will not effect the memory on the phone at all.

  • Very useful video & worked for me. I have a tip for reassembly, as I had a LOT of trouble getting the hinge assembly back in place. Look at the video from the 3:45 - 4:05 point (removing the hinge assembly) you will notice near the end the "bar" that connects both parts of the hinge. I wish the contrast was better, or they showed a better angle, as the "bar" goes UNDER the motherboard assembly when you are attempting to put it back together. Just thread it between the hinges and the bar. Voila!

  • great vid! helped a lot!

  • @BNM22 Glad to hear!

  • Absolutely wonderful video. A couple of notes that may help future users:

KEEP track of which holes you pull the phillps head screws out of....they are different.

You will need a 1/16" phillips screw driver for the very tiny screws just before you take the screen out.

Just buy the recommended tools from repair universe and save yourself a lot of hassle.

Some Reassembly instructions would be nice....especially putting the hinges back on...took me a while to figure it out.

  • @rclark174 Thank you, we are very happy the video helped out. And thank you for your input on your recommendations, they are very true. We will work on getting more assembly videos on in the future.

  • Just fixed my phone. Took 2 hours or so on a 7 minute vid. Though thanks for the vid.

Could've used some backwards instructions though!

  • @Chitenza Great work. No problem at all. We normally do not use assembly videos as it really is this video in reverse. We appreciate your comments however and will attempt more assembly videos in the future.

  • @RepairsUniverse Coolio. Thanks, there is only one minor problem now. I think I saw someone else mention it but it might have been in the other glass repair vid. The brightness on my phone is now at pretty much 100% brightness even if I turn it to 0%. Allthough, when I press the screen with a little force I can see flickering between 0% and 100%. What do you think that could be?

  • @Chitenza Ah, one of those.... Had a few people mention this issue. Has nothing to do with the LCD screen. We suggest you check out some G2 Forums for information. I believe people have come up with a solution. However we have never tested or attempted. Good luck and be sure to let us know if you figure out the issue!

  • How difficult is succesfully completing this repair? Advice for success or unexpected problems to avoid? Suggestions for best adhesive to attach replaced screen? Thanks in advance for advice & suggestions from experience b4 attempting fix.

  • @violetrocket6 Follow the guide closely and you should have no issues. We have has thousands of people use this guide to replace their screens with a very high success rate. The guide is very detailed and no un expected problems await. Our favorite adhesive is available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. It gives a great bond and the perfect lift. We have used this for years.

  • Hello, I've placed an order for the G2 screen from your website. I hope to be able to repair this when I recieve. Thanks for the guide.

You have an Brit accent but shipping was only 5 bucks

  • @Chitenza You should not have any issues, just follow this guide closely and be sure to secure the connections. Our warehouse is located in the mid west of the USA.

  • thanks mate, i am going to man up and do this procedure soon.

  • @acatl33 Best of luck, let us know if you run into any issues!

  • This video made it possible for me to replace my LCD screen without too much hassle.. the worst part was finding a Philips screw driver small enough to get out the screws without stripping them. It works great expect for one problem, I can't adjust the brightness on my screen anymore. It won't go into auto mode, it won't brighten and it won't dim, it just stays at the same brightness level. Could i have missed putting a ribbon back together properly? If so, which ribbon do you think it would be?

  • @Lezzle22 Glad to hear the repair went smoothly. The brightness issue is quite common (with or without LCD replacements). I would suggest checking out some G2 forums to get some more information about this. I believe from what I have heard last that some techs have figured out how to resolve this brightness issue.

  • I have a Tmobile G2 with the latest android version. I dropped it and after that drop my display does not work. I am able to receive calls. Once or twice a day the display turns on for about 4-5 minutes and then shuts down again. Could it be a problem with the flex cable? If yes, how can I fix it? thank you!

  • @rohan312 Yes it is likely your LCD connection was jarred loose. You will need to disassemble your G2 until you can access the LCD flex cable on the motherboard. You can then disconnect and reconnect, making sure a full connection is made. If that does not resolve the issue you may want to consider a LCD replacement, these are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.

  • Great video! I replaced my screen and all looks good except for one problem. My touch screen is now very erratic, making it hard to do basic things like type. Any ideas? I imagine its a connection issue on reassembly? There was some extra tape over some of the connectors as I removed them, should I replace that tape with electrical tape now? Thanks in advance!!!

  • @mmacaulay64 Yes this is likely a connection issue. Take a quick look at the motherboard connection for the touch screen digitizer. Normally tape will not effect the device in this manner, but is a quick way to cover all of your bases.

  • Thanks a lot for this. Fixed my G2... took pretty long but got it to work

  • @Massacre1080 Great work. The G2 is not the quickest repair but luckily pretty straightforward. Take your time, be patient, and there should be no issues.

  • i have a g1 i dropped it in water once.can you tell me what i would need to buy in order to fix it. and how much would it cost to fix it in an store.

  • @ThatswatJavaSaid Water damage is very tricky. It depends on the issues your G1 is having. Dispaly, touch functionality, powering, charging, syncing.. If you have limited technical knowledge, we suggest taking it to a local repair shop to diagnose the issues your phone is having.

  • This video's awesome, thanks! I did this repair and the LCD works now, but I have two new problems... there is an area of the LCD that is red (a few clustered pixels) and the backlight flashes occasionally when the phone is locked. Also, the SD card reader no longer works! Thoughts?

  • @VeniVidiViciVivre No problem, glad the video helped. As for your issues, the red clusters seems odd. This can be caused by either a bad connection or partially damaged/faulty screen. If the back light is flashing it is likely because of the LCD connection to the motherboard. I would check this and make sure it is fully in place with no damage around the cables (rips). As for the SD card slot, this is likely because of a connection issue. Be sure the SD cable is fully connected.

  • Thanks for the guide. It was great with helping me take about my G2 for LCD replacement. I am however stuck trying to get it back together. I can't get the section shown in 5:21 to snap back into place. It looks like everything wants to get back on except that corner you initially begin to pry off. Any suggestions, or do you perhaps have a reassembly guide?

  • @EmperorCobbeo No problem. I would check for damage or issues with bent / damaged clips. This can happen when disassembling, and usually a quick fix. Simply bend and push everything back into place and it should pop together fine after that. We currently do not have a reassembly guide, but even so, it would just show it snapping into place as normal. Check all the clips for damage and take the appropriate action at that point.

  • Holly crap. All my LCD screen is is a bit waterlogged. I think I'll cross my fingers and go with rice. Thank you for the video anyway.

  • @Bigbadburrows2 Rice in a warm area overnight is the absolute best household way to dry a phone. Be sure to remove the battery though. Good luck!

  • There are huge amount of dust under the screen, i am wondering is it possible to just open the glass screen without taking the phone apart, as i am not confident about it

    Thanks

  • @whitepandaaa Sadly there is no easier way to remove the screen. Follow the video closely and be cautious around the flex cables and you should be fine taking it apart.

  • @RepairsUniverse all i wanted was just pop open the first glass bit, so i can clear out the dust, i just found another video from you HTC G2 Glass Touch Screen Replacement Repair Instructions, the way you open the glass, is there anything connected (apart from the top bit) that is connected?

  • @whitepandaaa No, there is nothing else connecting the touch screen, just adhesive to hold it into place.

  • my screen went black, I ordered a new one put it in and still my screen is blanck, everything else works, the home button works because I can feel the vibrate, could my new LCD be faulty

  • @vaderstang99 3 possibilities: the LCD screen is not what caused the screen to go black (motherboard maybe?), the LCD flex cable is not connected properly (easiest to check), or the replacement screen can be faulty (however doubtful, as most suppliers test parts before shipment, as does RepairsUniverse.)

  • Thinking about doing this repair for my wife. The part that worries me is re-assembling the plastic covering that he uses a knife to remove at 4:27. Does any heat/adhesive need to be used when putting it back on to keep it from peeling off from everyday use?

  • @begreen87 Adhesive is handy for these concerns. You can place a few thin strips in appropriate places to be sure the G2 will not split apart (however unlikely). As long as all the screws go in place and everything is lined up, you should not need to reheat the adhesive.

  • If I ever break my screen im letting this guy fix it seems to know what he doing

  • I'm having the same problem with my phone. The screen is completely black, but everything else works fine.

  • @dionne90 just thought i'd chime in again. completely took apart the phone like in the video, put everything back, just to make sure it wasnt a loose cable or anything. I decided to purchase a replacement LCD for $32 from eBay.

  • @dionne90 Sounds like your LCD screen is damaged and needs replacing.

You can find the replacement screens at RepairsUniverse (dot) com

  • @dionne90 Sounds like your LCD screen is broken and needs replacing.

  • Hey my G2's screen backlight turns on, but there is no picture. I can also put my sim in, call the phone, and swipe on the screen to receive the call. There is no picture however. Everything seems to work fine except for that.

  • Comment removed

  • @modzsi my issue was when I got the LCD replacement, I installed it. I figured out later, after getting another phone that had the same issue and trying the replacement LCD in this one, it has the same issue still. The replacement LCD was bad. I got an exchange for the bad replacement, and another one for the second phone with the same issue, and they both work like new now :D sorry it took so long to reply

  • My brightness flickers when i put slight pressure if the brightness is on a low setting. how can i fix this,

  • @fatpattt We have seen quite a few issues like this recently. Not exactly sure why. You can check some of the other comments and try our suggestions. We will research this and try to come up with some answers. I suggest also checking out some G2 forums for more information on the issue.

  • @Cibgon Is your screen brightness flickering like from 100% to like 0% if you put pressure. Before my screen was stuck at 100% now its at 0% all the time. My friend told me it could be a faulty screen also.

  • @fatpattt I replaced the screen because I broke the original one , but the new one is doing that stuff . I apply presure , but it didn't do anything , so I think is the screen

  • @Cibgon ahh , I forget to tell you that my screen is stucked at 0%

  • I have a question. what would i need to fix my phone. My phone seems to work fine touch screen and all because i can find the music if i memorize the layout of everything and plays and receives calls and everything. Its just that my screen is blank with a white light vertical line down the left side. Can you help me?

  • @NoFear24 It sounds like your LCD screen is faulty or poorly connected. You can check the LCD connection to the motherboard for damage or issues, if everything looks fine, it would most likely be a bad LCD screen, in which case you would need to replace it. We these LCD screens available for the G2 at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.

  • There are so many screws on this phone!!!!

  • @Hillary702 Yes there are, be sure to keep track of all of them, grouping them as they come out is our best tactic. Makes assembling the G2 much quicker. Good luck!

  • my screen has been sluggish for a few months and recently it been selecting things by itself. help

  • @brooklyn560 Do you believe it is the touch screen digitizer that is causing the issue? Or is the display itself sluggish? Opening it up would be the best way to diagnose the issue, checking connection and finding other issues. You can find replacement parts for the G2 at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. Good luck!

  • my brightness wont change and if i press hard on screen it changes brightness. any ideas? at first screen was black now its just 100% brightness all the time. help please

  • @fatpattt Very odd, I would suggest popping your G2 open and checking for connection issues, although that seems unlikely, it may help diagnose the issue.

  • @RepairsUniverse I have the same problem , I checked again all the connections and I didn't find anything wrong . How I diagnose the issue? please help

  • @Cibgon Brightness is controlled by the LCD screen and light sensors, double check those connection to the motherboard to see if any damage to the flex cables has happened. Also poke around for other reasons to the cause of the issue. If you cant find anything, it may be the LCD that is faulty? Seems unlikely, but can't think of too many other reasons it would not change brightness unless pressure is applied.

  • eff tmobile and asurion insurance. $125 to replace just a broken screen

  • Excelent video... can u do one in which u guys replace the glass??? I need help :'(

  • @jrodriguez809 Yes we have a video showing how to replace the touch screen, check out our other videos and you'll find it. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the fast delivery and also thanks for this video that helped me replace the LCD Screen. However... after reassembly there is no vibration. Could it be some cable that is not properly connected? Any ideas?

  • Comment removed

  • @Pachan86 No problem! Double check the vibrator motor, it is likely just a connection issue.

  • So how do you put it back together?

Is there a video for that?

  • @trackness95 Simply reverse these take apart instructions.

  • Friend I fixed my LCD but I cannot put the flap part together any suggestion please it's really hard to put flip thing together

  • @hanumanjipankaj There is no real trick to it, just watch the video carefully and be patient, it can take some time to get it re-aligned.
