do you remember the scene at the chruch?
a bomb exploded that burned everything that was biological, a lot of people died - they burned to death, while all the non-biological things stayed unharmed.
VAUGHN: "The Kings are in town on Friday night; you could watch the zamboni..."
(This is in reference to an earlier scene in the episode, where Sydney & Vaughn come home after a hockey game, and she tells him that her favourite part was coming home with him -- although, "zamboni was a close second" :D)

vaughns probably thinking he wishes he could do something to comfort syd and put her mind at ease and make her fear vanish
