@lodhol It's ok.. there's not many other kits to choise from, apart from the ZVEZDA kit, I think.. if you want to build one.. :) I don't know which kit is the better of the two though, as I haven't seen the Zvezda kit at all.. :)
@BasicModelling Zvezda kits are pretty good,I like the quality of plastic.I have many Zvezda models, but none hobby boss.Tell me this,is plastic strong,or ,,weak,,.And does parts fit well?
@lodhol I'd say the plastic is quite strong.. the p[arts go together quite well, I think.. can't remember having too much trouble with the kit! But iof you are used to Zvezda kits, maybe you should try and buy that one?? :)
@bruce3371: The plane you're talking about is the X-29. It's a pretty bird in its own right too though, even if this technonology isn't something new.....
Strange looking beast, but nice looking model!! I believe the Americans built a forward swept version of their F5 tiger way back when, but it didn't look as good as this one!
@bruce3371 Thank you.. I guess that would make for an interesting conversion.. never seen a kit / model of a plane like that, but I guess it can be done.. :)
OH MY GOD. i have the S-37 BERKUT from revell so it looks almost as you except mine looks like an ass. i cant paint. and i dont build modells so often:(
@522films I probably will, one day.. even if they are a little too modern for my liking! Then again, I did build this, didn't I?? And that is modern too.. :)
@Aerolseventh You need to sip the decals in water before applying them, or they won't slide off from the backing paper.. but personally I don't keep them in the water for more than 10 seconds top.. then I just leave them to the side until they have losened from the paper.. :) If you leave them in water for too long, the glue will dissolve and they won't stick to the model..
@BasicModelling, a super easy trick is to mix in some palmolive soap to the water. Count quickly to twenty and you can apply the decal right then and there.
@stryderprime From what I have heard it's not a bad kit.. Nearly bought it myself, until I found this version, which I prefer as the scale goes with the rest of my builds.. :)
@spetsnaz97 Basically you need glue and paints.. some filler and tools like a sprue cutter, knives and spatulas.. not to mention brushes.. or an airbrush, later on.. I suggset you watch my 'tool' video, you should find it if you do a search for 'tools' or 'tool' in my video search box.. :) Thank you..

actually i take that back about it is impressive ive just watched a video of the su-47 and it looks almost the same as the real thing especially the paint finish wow
I nearly bought it, but not knowing what it bwas, I left it on the shelf.. thinking it was one of those models made from the plans, of a plane that wasn't reality.. what did I know?? :)

Its a very Thunderbird 2 sort of thing, and maybe if you dig into a bit of history possible German experimental, I will need a expert to reveal any more.
Not sure how much the Russians still rely on German technology.. I think this is pretty much their own thing, ven though I think other have tried similar configurations.. :) Glad you enjoyed it, I enjoyed the build.. it made a nice change to my usual stuff! :)
Haven't checked yet.. Ah yes, the 1/24 scale Mossie?? It's much too large and complicated for me.. but I have FOUR 1/72 Mossies to build at some point!! :)
I'm thinking of a Russian Mk.IIb in 'white over light blue' winter camo.. it would have to be another conversion, as the Russians weren't overly impressed by the original armament and often swapped for their own make canons.. :)
I could not view this vid on XP no matter what I did, disk cleanup, etc; so I went to the linux side and at last viewed the entire video...I just had an update from firefox on the XP side so I wonder if that is part of the difficulties...oh well, now Rob, back to the Finnish Hurricane, right...look at my watch...it is swinging to the left and the right...keep looking and when I write Finnish Hurricane, you will wake up and yearn to do one :)
If you sent me a PM, I didn't get it.. :) And if you sent me an e-mail, I haven't checked it.. won't have time tonight, as I will have to go to bed early! May be needed at the hospital in the morning tomorrow.. :P
It's a bit smaller and easier to handle.. will see if I can display it at the local modelshop for a while.. but his display cabinet is small, and this is a big model.. :)
Thank you.. I took a couple of layers of Klear AND varnish to get a reasonably good finish to the plane.. :) I really need to take up airbrushing now.. :)
Yes, I quite like it, even though I tend not to build any aircraft designed or flown after the 1980's.. :) But this was worth the exemption to the rule.. :)
Very, very well done indeed!! :D Magnificent (and unusual) model :) Its black paint, forward-folded wings and general odd aspect somehow remind me of Batman´s plane X) a model I´ve been looking for decades (some years ago, the AMT-ERTL trademark made a 1/25 Batman batwing I find as odd as this one...)
Yes, it has a bit of a Batman look about it, I guess.. :) And I like black aircraft, I hope to get a small collection, as a I have quite a few kits now of all over black (or near enough) aircraft to build! :)
Quality of the video?? Could be YouTube.. Quality of the kit?? Not sure, it looked fine to me.. HobbyBoss have some good stuff but they tend to simplify their kits.. Revell has done a version in 1/144 scale, and ZVEZDA will issue a kit in 1/72 scale in the near future! It may be more detailed than this, I don't know.. :)
To the best of my knowledge it HAS adjustable canards, yes.. Only one flying, but Sukhoi are trying to flog the Su-47 to the Russian Air Force as a fighter in its own right now, I think.. at the moment they only use this one plane as a technology testbed.. :)
Oh yes, I only looked at the kit yesterday.. :) But having seen yours have sort of put me off doing mine, as it won't be anywhere near your standard.. :P But I'll give it a go at some point in the not too long distant future.. but NOW I'm going to TREAT myself to a P-47 M Thunderbolt! Yummy yummy yummy!! I just need an excuse to feature the videos I took of the old air field where they flew from, as I only live around the corner from it.. :) :) I will incorporate them in the model video!! :)
No, seriously though.. it's easier to cover up the join, and it also allows an easier fit of the cock-pit.. generally.. just to name 2 advantages.. :)
you will build the x-29 of hasegawa? or the f-16b

Heh, I'm about to put together Berkut Mig 29!! I'm glad you could do such a good job using hand brush.
Question, did you use clear coat under decals? I read in a book that if you put decals on matte color, micro bubbles will show through.
Another thing, I have Berkut Mig 29, and Zvezda SU-32. Zvezda kit has so much more stuff in it!!
odinandme 2 years ago
Yes, the Zvezda kit no doubt comes with more detail.. but you also pay a lot more for it, I would imagine.. :)
I put a couple of drops of Johnsons Klear Floor Polish under the decals, to stop the airbubbles.. then I use a matt varnish (or gloss / silk, depending on the final finish wanted) over the decals and the whole kit, for a uniform surface.. If you decal straight on a matt surface you will most likely get airbubbles and silvering, yes.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago

I could not view this vid on XP no matter what I did, disk cleanup, etc; so I went to the linux side and at last viewed the entire video...I just had an update from firefox on the XP side so I wonder if that is part of the difficulties...oh well, now Rob, back to the Finnish Hurricane, right...look at my watch...it is swinging to the left and the right...keep looking and when I write Finnish Hurricane, you will wake up and yearn to do one :)

TheSuperiorAce 2 years ago
If you sent me a PM, I didn't get it.. :) And if you sent me an e-mail, I haven't checked it.. won't have time tonight, as I will have to go to bed early! May be needed at the hospital in the morning tomorrow.. :P

Alright I resent it.

I prefier the one you made than the real one!

It's a bit smaller and easier to handle.. will see if I can display it at the local modelshop for a while.. but his display cabinet is small, and this is a big model.. :)

High technology test platform.. I think they (Sukhoi) are thinking of building a version with swept wings as well, i.e more normal looking.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
very nice end result!
dangerousprimate 2 years ago
Thank you.. I took a couple of layers of Klear AND varnish to get a reasonably good finish to the plane.. :) I really need to take up airbrushing now.. :)

Thatsa funky jet
PilotAceTom 2 years ago
Yes, I quite like it, even though I tend not to build any aircraft designed or flown after the 1980's.. :) But this was worth the exemption to the rule.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
It was very enjoyable, watching this build of a super modern jet, thanks.

Glad you enjoyed it... :) :)

AlanMartinNala 2 years ago
Yes, it has a bit of a Batman look about it, I guess.. :) And I like black aircraft, I hope to get a small collection, as a I have quite a few kits now of all over black (or near enough) aircraft to build! :)

is it me or is the vid cualati little bad (not sugdjesting its your fault)!
though i deffenitli DO NOT like hobyboss!
looks like a nice meedium kit!
the end result is good! yei!
anywais ceep it up! :)
tenka45623 2 years ago
Quality of the video?? Could be YouTube.. Quality of the kit?? Not sure, it looked fine to me.. HobbyBoss have some good stuff but they tend to simplify their kits.. Revell has done a version in 1/144 scale, and ZVEZDA will issue a kit in 1/72 scale in the near future! It may be more detailed than this, I don't know.. :)

Did this one have the adjustable canards?
PappyStu 2 years ago
To the best of my knowledge it HAS adjustable canards, yes.. Only one flying, but Sukhoi are trying to flog the Su-47 to the Russian Air Force as a fighter in its own right now, I think.. at the moment they only use this one plane as a technology testbed.. :)

very nice Aircraft!!! nice to see you building a more modern jet!!! five points and greetings as always from one of your fan caplagos
CapLAGOS 2 years ago
I do enjoy the modern stuff too... just not as often!! But my son nags me to build the F-15 he bought me, so that will be done soon too.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
and do not forgett the Tomcat you want to built :-)))))))))
CapLAGOS 2 years ago
Oh yes, I only looked at the kit yesterday.. :) But having seen yours have sort of put me off doing mine, as it won't be anywhere near your standard.. :P But I'll give it a go at some point in the not too long distant future.. but NOW I'm going to TREAT myself to a P-47 M Thunderbolt! Yummy yummy yummy!! I just need an excuse to feature the videos I took of the old air field where they flew from, as I only live around the corner from it.. :) :) I will incorporate them in the model video!! :)

why do you prefer the horizontal cut?

I t showa up less when I wear my bikini.. :)
No, seriously though.. it's easier to cover up the join, and it also allows an easier fit of the cock-pit.. generally.. just to name 2 advantages.. :)
BasicModelling 2 years ago
does this mean a bikini clad basic will be making a model soon? :)
xoexo
edenbainbridge 2 years ago
..or maybe I'll pose as the model, myself.. eh.. :) Should look good on the cat walk.. ;)
