  • Several months ago, I noticed, all the bookcases were full, I mean books laying on top of the ones first put in vertically....so even prior to this video, I cleared a shelf...and it's right at eye level, so you can see it, a clear space. (Keys always go to the key hook in a given order.)

  • Aww, I'm so pleased to hear that my work resonates with you.

  • I LOVE YOU SOOOOOO MUCH! OPARH NEEDS TO HAVE YOU ON HER SHOW!!!

  • I could not disagree with you MORE. Clutter is stuff that you don't engage with. Seeing those photos on the shelves, and those books lined up, gives me intense joy. Multiple spare glass salsa jars -- clutter. Sentimental items with no real sentimental value -- clutter. But if things are used, or loved, that's not clutter to my mind.

  • I'm trying to have a major clutter clear, and the first thing I notice in this video is EVERYTHING in the background is clutter or at least major things on the reject list. Photos in frames - pointless, you have a computer, you have to move them to wipe the window sill. Books - pointless, you have a computer use pdf format... The obvious problems not mentioned at all are binning things of sentimental value or duplicate items, or useless items that could be sold but no buyer.

  • Corrupt5358, why would you want to read a book on a computer?

I've tried reading computer manuals on my notebook computer. It just doesn't work as well as a real, paper book that I can page through.

Have you heard of libraries? They let you borrow books, read them and return them. It's pretty cool. A nice example of socialism in action.

Pictures of people she loves are certainly not pointless. What a shallow, empty, soulless existence you must lead.

  • Yes, married. But I'm fortunate that my husband wants to be clutter-free, too.

  • You're so awesome. I love clutter fighters like yourself... you're married? :( Then again I'm only 22 lol

  • Terrific! I hope you enjoy it!

  • I just found out about the happiness project and your videos just a few hours ago and i'm loving it and I just brought the book off the internet. Thanks =-)

  • You are very blessed GretchenRubinNY. Stereotypes are usually very accurate. I missed the mark on this one.

  • Huh? I'm married (to my first husband) and have two children. They enjoy free counter space as much as I do!

  • GretchenRubinNY, Are you married? Do you have a roommate? This seem realistic if you live alone. I think I will continue to live with my wife and remain jealous of the peace that you have. It would be nice to live like you but it's completely selfish and irresponsible to abandon your family in order to obtain a microwave, refrigerator and a kitchen table that isn't used for storage. If you are married to your first husband ignore this post. If you are divorced I hate you with passion.

  • Great! I hope it helps.

  • Just became aware of the Happiness Project and I will clear a surface this week. Thanks Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Lwebster

  • My problem is I clear a surface and the kids and my husband mess it up again!!! Love your videos, by the way!

  • Love your advice

  • I love your tips!! But I especially love your book: The Happiness Project. This book has literally changed my life. I have created my own happiness project using your modules and tips and revamping it to suit my needs. Thank you!

  • great tips, love 'em.
