Have to agree with the too much vibrato and over singing from most of these guys. I prefer this scene kind of talk-singing in a menacing way. As much as I hate to go with the crowd on most things Crawford is the best of the bunch here.
they are all terrible.except for crawford. none of them are scary at all. at least mc can act. and what is up with the waay exagerrated vibratto in their voices especially ramin. it ruins their vocal quality and is making a mockery of opera. the classic phantoms never over did it.
@corasings1 Well first off, this isn't opera, it is musical theatre. Second, you can barely see Michael so that's not a fair comparison at all. I will agree with you about Ramin, since the lad barely knows how to sing.
Earl Carpenter is the best! his every step was very deliberate, just like a tiger waiting to pounce. but Ramin managed to scare me just by listening to his voice and singing, he conveyed everything just by his voice. Amazing.
My Favorites: Hugh Panaro (Reason: Kinda creepy, Childish and insane all in one), Ramin Karimloo(Reason: Because he's awesome and my new favorite) & Gary Mauer (Reason: Because awesome voice! as well)
@liamblackere Actually it is the main actor who walks down the stairs. The double doesn't appear until he sings 'Your chains are still mine..." etc, and disappears, then the double runs up the stairs and screams and laughs.
I liked Hugh Panaro best because of his head movements and how he worked the mouth on that mask. I liked Earl Carpenter second best because he was very manacing. John Cudia had the best costume though.
I really liked Ramin Karimloo's performance. There was a certain elegance in it and my gosh... Elegance can be terrifying if it's done right and he has that elegance. Plus his "disappearing act" was spot on and freakin' majestic! Swirl that cape, Ramin, oh yeah!!
@PinkCarnationProDux Oh, he's one of the absolute best, one of my 3 favorites in the whole world. Check out the Music of the Night video I have of him on my channel. He'll break your heart.
For the "Compare the Phantoms' font I used is simply called 'Phantom of the Opera font'. Type it in on Google and you should find a couple different versions.
Earl Carpenter. I loved how he played around with the tempo a bit, and how he makes every action so sharp and deliberate, like when he points at the chandelier, or even just tilts his head. But Ramin and Gary have the best disappearances at the end. btw, how awkward would it be if Christine's necklace failed to break when the Phantom snatched it off her neck? lol
Vocally I definitely like John and Earl the most :) Well maybe John a little bit more:) But Michael Crawford felt the anger of the song and he did a great acting :) hard choice :) But I think John did the best :)
lol there was a phantom mishap with some show when he tossed the book and the guy didnt catch it. all you heard was a loud THUMP! and the phantom just stared at him XD
omg deffineitly ramin karimloo and thats not just because i love him my fav phantom is hugh but im not very fon of his why so silent although it was better live
i think Ramin did an excellent job with the balance of softness and harshness of the Phantom's character that clearly came out in his video.

Earl Carpenter must lose some weight, it's not healthy for a man of his age.

I love Gary Mauer's action before he "vanishes." And Crawford's ending shout was ehhhh. :/

I really tried to stay open minded and not immediately go with Crawford but after listening a few times I have to say he is my favorite.

I love Hugh the best because of his voice, and cockiness playing the phantom. Sarcastic, and almost childish. Wonderful acting.

Ramin is the best, the power and emotion he puts into every song makes him the better Phantom.

Gary's first line sounded very Crawfordian.
I love Panaro but this wasn't one of his best performances.
