It turns out they were already dead, killed by students. I think at the start they may not know that they were killed or this is the two of them contemplating there lives after they had died. This is just my take on it, its probably something more digestable.

noo they both killed eachother. umm if you go back to the movie and listen to what the cop says. he said " i herd the teacher caused this one" thats why both of them had guns. and when they died which we didnt find out untill the end they found the well being in eachother. but amazing movie very well directed.

That movie is so good. Fabulous script, story line and a good ending...well kinda. Love it.
