@TropheusJon I use 12lb test Maxima Ultragreen, which is what I use for my main line on a baitcasting reel as well. Some people prefer to run 15 or 20lb test if they choose to fish for larger specimen like chinook salmon, which I don't go for very often. Make sure you put quite a bit of backing underneath the main just so you can spool the reel to the top (less work when retrieving).
Hey Rod, just wanted to say that we enjoy your videos! You are inspiring us to make our own line of fishing videos, check them out and let us know what you think!
@skatesesh56 If you are talking about Stave River below the dam, then your chance of encountering a bull trout is pretty small as they don't move into it from the Fraser very often. If you are talking about the lake above the dam, then yes you can certainly catch bull trout in it but a boat would increase your chance of catching one. Best fishing is in spring.
@zachthefisherman They are available at most tacklestores in the Pacific Northwest, as well as stores around the Great Lakes (Ontario, etc). Pretty pricey reels however, they are usually around $300, $400.
@zachthefisherman That is a centerpin reel, which is pretty commonly used for salmon or steelhead fishing in North American rivers. It doesn't make fishing easier, but many anglers find it more fun to use. The spool is free all the time so tension is controlled by your hand. The gear ratio is 1:1 so it makes fighting a fish rather interesting especially when it runs and jumps.
Im glad to see your giving a good name back to the asian fisher man of canada,
its great to see catch and release, i fish the bow river my self and all the asians here in calgary catch and kill all our trouphy trout even tho its catch and release ='( ,
Great video like always and I'm liking the extra length of time. Also, I read one of your responses and here in Ontario, islanders are $400-600+. How much are they over there?
@ElectroTrickStar Islander Steelheader centerpin usually retails for $400 + tax in British Columbia. Take a look at our website and there is a list of tackle stores that carry them. For example, Berry's Bait has a webstore and they are selling it for $399 + tax.
Nice work. I will try to fish your style here where I live and fish the american river. I never seen those type of reel before. If you don't mind telling me. So, koj pawm yoj hmoob? ...
Rodney, you've come very far my friend. I've been following you since the opening of your fishing forum, as well as when you still had your mountain biking site. Congrats, we're all proud of you! Beautiful footage, professionally composed. Congrats to all you guys! Btw, what camera are you guys using now? Thanks ~ Roots from the site.
@ThomasCrown79 Thanks! It definitely has evolved a lot since the days of the mountain biking site. ;) This video was filmed with a Canon T2i/550D, which will be used in most of the videos from now on.
hey man nice vid i luv bull trout fishin its ma fav fishin to do,im hoping to get some nice vidz soon but down here in PRINCE GEORGE we got tuns of snow :/ keep up the good work!
Great video and info, the extra length of the video builds up the drama, finishing with a superb fish, our season starts in march, cannot come quick enough.well done.
great footage! i really like the added length of this video, congrats on the catch this early in the 2011 season! i'm still anxiously awaiting for my chance to get my first fish of the year!
Hello! Magnificent fish - trout! Elegant tackle, masterly treatment ... Very modern and no less exciting fishing than flyfishing! Beauty! PS This is a special fishing rod or light flyfishing rod?
@GeoPromotion Thank you. The rod is a centerpin rod (or float rod as Eastern Canadians would call it). Price range of certerpin rods varies greatly. This one is fairly cheap, made locally in Vancouver for those who want to try out fishing with a centerpin outfit. Some anglers also prefer to build their own certerpin rods with a fly rod blank so they can end up with a lighter rod.
i live in maple ridge wondering where some good spots are! me and my dad allways fish trout this month and didnt catch i think we used a bobber weights and a worm on the hook. and fish out there that we can fish? and where?
@skatesesh56 There is a store in Maple Ridge, called Hatch Match'r Fly and Tackle. Stop by for a visit and talk to the owner Randy Morgan, who is always very helpful especially to young anglers. He can provide you numerous options for lake or river fishing around Maple Ridge.
I rreally like to fish and me and my dad go to river and fish. when we fish for things such as trouts with a bobber and hook we never get anything. i was wondering what kind of fish there is around to fish and actually catch something. i live in maple ridgee. Any good spots?
love the shots and angles you used....i plan on doing different shots this year...but its hard when im fishing on a boat and no one is helping with the recording....
@GrippinLipps Thanks! We do a few video features on boats every year too and that has always been a challenge due to limited mobility. It'd be much better if there are two boats so the subject can be shot from the other. We've done that before, but it can get time consuming and expensive.
5-10' degrees!! holy moly mannn.. if i was there id be covered with everything in my closet and i havv alot in there hahahh
