  • its like two different bands, tunes from this album an signing off and another the later empty thoughtless tunes

  • def paolo3910 ... Aswad comment. after true chapter all went well weary.

  • This song never gets old, does it ?

  • incorrupta says ...suuuperb....!

  • you guys wont believe me I'm a huge UB40 fan but only come to hear this track, dream a lie, my way of thinking, dont slow down and tyler in 1999. I could'nt believe that they sounded so cool back in the days before Red Red Wine.

  • Not a single dislike!!! That's what am talking 'bout!!

  • good oldies .

  • sunday drive home gutted xx couldnt say on face book people get funny

  • @Alkamii. That's not exactly true is it? Signing Off went platinum with in a year of being released, so both your ideas of them being piss poor and people just recording it off the radio don't really stand up. As one of the people who like 'real music' (and pop) and who brought the album, even though I was piss poor, your comment rankles.

  • @homerjsinnott The Bass player of UB40 is my good friends cousin & I know first hand that although the album may have sold relatively well, they still didn't make much money from the deal. How many times have we seen that in the music industry? They renegotiated a deal with Island records & with that came a 'new direction' ie a more commercial sound. Ali Campbell, the lead singer had a huge battle with alchoholism & gambling & squandered much of his earnings on such.

  • @Alkamii . Fair points dude, I just wish that they had done more of this kind of stuff, though I like Labour of Love for what it is, I feel that we didn't need another Reggae lite band, and the albums after that felt bland. People gotta eat though.

  • these guys make me proud to be a brummie

  • @ paolo3910. They were fed up of being shit hot & broke. They had (& still do have) families to support. The sad thing is that the majority of ppl who like 'real music' tend not to buy records in droves like ppl who like 'pop'. Many ppl would have taped this song from the radio instead of buying it.

It's easy to call ppl 'sell outs' from the comfort of your swivel chair but when it's a choice between staying on the dole in a crummy council estate or owning your own house, I know what I'd do.

  • @Alkamii well they have split now....very very sad after all these years !!!

  • cracking song

  • SUPERB !!! Nuff said !

  • this is there own material, not like the cover versions they normally do.

  • ANTHEM, FACT.......................

  • my god, so true considering todays catastrophies.

  • Saw these boys way way way back . their 1st london gig , they were late ! ask them why , but Fuck what a night ! hate the poppy shite and that includes red whine !

UPDATE - saw them again in November minus Ali , Signing off album done cover to cover , and I loved it !!

  • the earth dies screaming

    while I lay dreaming...

  • UB40 is the best

  • why oh why did they sell out and turn pop ! it kills me just as much now as it did all those years ago aswad did the same this tune is sheer fuckin class !

  • @paolo3910 this is a tune!

  • @paolo3910 yes they did sell out in a sense, many millions of people got to hear ub40 that otherwise wouldnt have, and the band members never got really rich before they parted waves,so the job was well done in my eyes, the word was passed but the dollar wasnt made.
