Wow, I had no idea Sam sung this in English. I am immensely impressed, I have so many good childhood memories because of this song. Mum played this a lot growing up.
Sam Hui is realy a talent in the music world not only in Hong Kong and spreaded
world-wide whereever there are Chinese. His songs inspire all generation from young to old. I grow up with his generation in Hong Kong and now I live in the Bay area since 1988 and I still enjoying listening to his oldies on you-tube to relax my soul. He really deserves to be called Song-God.
i love the english words. ! recalling memories of my HK friends who intro this to me years ago while we were lonely young students living overseas. Where you are, God bless you all.
I think anyone who do not like "Drifter's song" is not a true music lover. I tried to played this song the best I can. ( I am not a guitarist, not a singer either but I tried.) Many musician friend of mine loved this song. Just think their reaction if they saw Sam Hui perform this song. Sadly, I do not understand Chinese and I do not know what the meaning of the Chinese version of this song meant. If anyone can get hold of Sam. Please have him email me at slaptree00@yahoo.com
LAWLZ THIS SONG IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM THE CANTO ONE.... the original is talking about the stupidity of one caused by his/her ignorance... atleast thats how i perceive it.
@Channypogosticks, i think the themes are very similar if not teh same. the cantonese version is also about ppl being subject to their fate. both versions project this sense of helplessness in life.
the cantonese version i think is about a guy who had great plans for life but he later felt the limitations (or helplessness) in life. the latter half of the song is about not being obessed with the outcome and just be happy and do good deeds. that's how i perceive it.
The meaning of the chinese lyrics are completely different from the english translation that sam hui actually sings. He's actually written out lyrics for a completely different song not really related to the original
its my pleasure that have the chance to meet him at the place I work tonight...and this song' s chinese version...is one of my most favorite lyic songs...it ready teach me how life is .......

sam hui 's spirit does not mix in with the English vocal very well.
