sometimes it saddens me to see my whitebrother treat black soldiers or any one of a diffrent color in a bad way thank god my parents brought me up to not be racist ....
Revenge is the only word, 'that' does not stand in military terms, as a military action, therefore; when a military unit commits revenge, there 'is' no honor. Revenge is the only word you could put on this stupidity of killing old women, men and children. What honor is there in such an action? Therefore, rescind the Medals of Honor for the Wounded Knee Massacre (battle, in military terms).
Read the epic novel Rescue at Pine Ridge, 5 stars Amazon Int., the story of the revenge and redemption.
14 years after the Little Big Horn, the 7th Cavalry was entrapped in a box canyon, and if it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry, there would have been a second massacre of the 7th Cav.
The Buffalo Soldiers, 9th Cavalry was rewarded with Presidential Parade Escort and Guard Duties for accomplishments, furthermore; the 9th Cav. received as many citations as most of the white cavs.
Read the epic novel, "Rescue at Pine Ridge", 5 stars Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
Coloured soldiers fought bravely in every war from ACW to WW 2. And every time the army treated them like trash. Worse at home. It must have been an absurd experience to come home from Germany, fighting for "freedom" and being not allowed to sit down where you wanted. They told them that the racist ideas of the Nazis are wrong. And propagated racial segregation in the land of the free. What a bunch of two faced scum. They even forced Churchill to accept segregation if he wanted the US troops.
The 7th Cavalry was entrapped the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. The 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers rescued the 7th Cavalry.
Read the novel, Rescue at Pine ridge, the story of the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the Buffalo Soldiers, and visit website; rescue at pine ridge. com. The novel embodies Native Americans, Outlaws and Buffalo Soldiers, in the days of the Native American Wars with the approach USA. Story is about, brutality, compassion, reprisal, bravery, heroism and gallantry.
I've always read that the 9th and the 10th cavalry were so good at what they did largely because they were composed of long-term troopers ... ask any old soldier of any persuasion if practice doesn't make perfect. Conditions in the U.S. army back then were pretty harsh but the options for African Americans overall weren't that great. At least it would be difficult for a mob to lynch a black trooper from the 9th while the rest of his company was there.I bet they didn't step aside for anyone.
fort wachucka in serria vista arizona is the home of the buffalo soldiers. they were an all black regiment that was stationed there becuase of thier color and the fact that even at that time they were expendable, so to survive they had to be better than anyone else and prooved it many times over including and up to cuurent day. Terrible how the american african ws treated by our ancestors.
I have a hard time with black soldiers chasing Indians all over their own country because the white told them too. Isnt that reverse racisim? I guess they also told them to go into the Indiand camps and kill all the women and children too. which tey did do in that time period.
I'm with you ricbowenjr, I can NEVER understand why the Native Americans or Indians as they were then were despised by white men and murdered, also the women and children a particularly dreadful thing to do and their land taken away from them.....no wonder they were called "Savages" I would be too.
How do you keep a people down? You 'never' let them 'know' their history.
The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after the Little Big Horn Massacre, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. Read, and visit site/history, rescue at pine ridge. com
Thank you for bringing this important episode forth. I lived in New Mexico at the time of "The High Chaparral" first run and remember my mother reading to us kids an account of The Buffalo Soldiers in Texas, her home state. It was fascinating. There is a museum in Houston, Texas dedicated to keeping alive the memory of these renowned soldiers. If you're ever there, go and see it; lots of information and actual uniforms and equipment used by these valient men who served on the frontier.
Great episode, thank you for posting these.!
