On balance technology is massivly positive. The promise of technology alone is enough to make research the most important thing we can do, but there are of course many other reasons why science is important as well.

To change this, we're going to need a real ethical, philosophical, revolution that changes the way technology is used and eliminates our dependancy on it. If we don't watch our usage of technology, we'll stop evolving. This goes beyond just the threat of weapons of mass destruction.
