It's funny how this video completely fails to explain the complications and side effects of this surgery. I had it done after my soca rushed me into it and it would have been nice to know about the aesthetic changes in my hand, the perpetual weakness and collateral nerve damage... Thanks for nothing, super educated doctors, now I know how it feels to live with regret every day of my life.
I had left hand CTS last January 2011 and it was successfull... all numbness, tinggling are all gone.... Thanks for all information and many thanks to my doctors and his assitance.... Now i am ready for the next CTS for my right hand. :))
Your outstanding videos & learning tools, on your many sites, have replaced brochures and pamphlets for our patients. Reading & studying a certain topic, can & will, teach you the subject matter, but your videos open a whole new world of interest, due to their precise & accurate information, & their exact illustrations & animations. I have recommended your sites multiple times, because of the high level of trust that I have with your material. In layman's terms, "you sure do know your stuff".
when i touch my index finger and my thumb with my opposite hand it doesnt hurt or when someone else touches it, it doesnt hurt. whenever someone hand shakes me or whenever i try to pinch myself it hurts. i cant do simple things such as button a shirt or open bottled things. do u think i have carpal tunnel? been hurting for 3 weeks
I have a question; what happens with the carpal ligament when the doctor cuts it? In every animation I've seen about CTR doesn't explain what the doctor does with regard to the carpal ligament. Does he leave it flapping around? Does he stitch both ends together but farther apart so as to create a longer ligament? This doubt is what's keeping me from getting this surgery done.
If I don't have the numbness or tingling in the 3 fingers but have pain when i turn my wrist (in the wrist and ulna side of my arm) could that still be CTS
For the record...I have suffered with severe Carpal Tunnel problems for two years. Just underwent open surgery and I knew I was better within a matter of hours after the surgery. Very simple, virtually pain-free and I am ready to have the other hand done immediately. If you have severe painful carpal tunnel you are a fool not to have it corrected immediately.
I have this, was diagnosed 15 yrs ago when I was only 21. Have been told by 2 different drs that I need surgery but I'm worried it won't help. Sometimes the pain is just in my hands and other times I feel like it's radiating down my forearm from my elbow. Pain keeps me up at night often and anti-inflammatories don't help much. Anyone else experience it like that and did surgery help?
Thanks for this video, out of all the videos I watched on here about the surgery, this one made the most sense. The real thing just didnt show enough detail for me to understand what was going on !!
3) as a result, they cannot oppose thumb (ie, no pinching, precision grip, etc)
It can have severe consequences, and impact on people's lives.
@sugarpuddin88, These surgeries DO NOT always fail, why do you think they keep doing them if they fail? I'd bet your doctors are not stupid people. If the impingement is at pronator teres, then all of your forearm will get affected.
whats the point of having this tissue if cutting it a doesnt disable and hand motion but gets rid of that tingley feeling in your hand? why do we even develop somthing that does nothing but cause pain?
Fantastic results on CTS using Bowen Technique. (see Bowtech dot com) Also hypothyroidism can also cause CTS although this is rarely checked for. Blood tests for this are inaccurate as you may have subclinical hypothyroidism which doesn't show in blood tests.
Does cutting the transverse carpal ligament make the wrist motions restricted? For example, if someone were to get carpal tunnel syndrome from drumming (wrist bending up and down) and the transverse carpal ligament were cut, could the person still drum the same as he/she used to? Would physical therapy be needed?
Although the "sensation" of trouble is at the wrest, the actual cause is impingement of the median nerve around the pronator teres muscle (proximal to the elbow)!
USA medicine is ranked 54th in world, (The World Health Organization ranked the countries of the world in terms of over all health performance, and the US (was) 37th; In fairness of care, USA is ranked 54th)
@sugarpuddin88 Then what the fuck do I do?? I'm in pain dude. I cant fucking stand it anymore. I'm desperate for a damn solution to this. I'm tired. I'm sick and tired of being in pain, and everyone is so fucking confusing and vague. I want to know what the hell is the thing to do about this.
Im not actually trying to be funny rather than truthful AND funny. My ex-girlfriend has a mild to moderate case of CT. When we were together, a sex drive had her use her hands and usually a few times daily for minutes at a time. She would just about Cry- "Hurry and C*M "! She would say as her hands(s) would slow down.. Its been 10 years and she reminds me STILL I gave her CT ..LOL
your collection of videos are a joy to watch -- very useful for educating patients, even doctors and medical students for that matter. question though: how can we buy or legally download these videos? is it like downloading music from iTunes?
i read tht it grows bak, and usually will be longer, and giv more space but sometimes scar tissue builds up and makes it tighter, donno if its true tho, aparently comes bak in 2 years usually
There is, my mom had it and didn't have to do surgery. She wore this special wrist thing. Wearing this will work, and reducing the amount of stress on your hands and wrists will also work. Cushion your wrists when doing anything that involes using your hands.
The ligament does not reattach, it's just left cut but you have fascia and muscles to keep everything in place. Your movement will be compromised, but the important part which pain management is taken care of.
hey guys - try a chiropractic alignment FIRST to see if you can get to the ROOT of the problem - this ligament was not meant to be cut.. its there for a reason think about it.... so try a chiropractor before cutting this..

@nucleusanimation what if we have CTS in both wrists? does that mean we cant go school and work and lift weights and eat and take a bath and everything?
@IAmGunzNoob In most cases your doctor will recommend that you have one done at a time. I had both done when I was 21, my primary hand first and then my other one. You can go to school as long as you aren't lifting anything heavy as you might re-open the sutures. Also, they recommend not doing anything that will increase your blood pressure. My surgeries were done within 10 days of each other and I recovered fine. However... 10% of patients will experience reoccurring CTS in ten or more years

What's the point? with CTS, patients get:
1) intractable painful wrists
2) Their thenar muscles become wasted (atrophy)
3) as a result, they cannot oppose thumb (ie, no pinching, precision grip, etc)
It can have severe consequences, and impact on people's lives.

Is the carpal muscle another vestigial tissue, or does it serve a perpose? Just cutting it sounds like it isn't really important to us.
