How are you mate, i realised this is and old video but i have seen some of your work and i think its awesome, could you please help me out on achieving a crystal glass texture like that, i have tried so hard but mine looks nothing like it??
Great video!! if any of you want to learn Maya, check out my tutorials! im currently doing a tutorial, where you model a bedroom, texture it and eventually render it out.
nice, very realistic.......i don't understand why autodesk has so many rendering softwares.....i'm a product designer looking into readering softwares and working with photoworks, what distinguishes 3ds max, mentalray, maya, mudbox, etc. from each other as far as rendering goes??
@pcfresh88 Maya and 3DS Max are 3d studios, and most come down to personal preferomance. They are for modeling, animating etc... They have amazing rendering capabilities. Mental Ray is a rendering function, which can be used in both Maya and Mental Ray as a rendering method. Mudbox is for advanced modeling and texturing, not so much for rendering itself. Hope this helps.
a few suggestions for cutting back on render time: 1, Render the background on it's own, and, using the alpha channel, composite it in later on, this will eliminate the need for both the background calculations, and those of the Dielectric interface to be run at the same time. 2, Render the glass without making it's color change. To get the color shift, keyframe the HSV (Hue/Saturation/Value) attribute in the post production package. You'll have more work, but it will go faster. Good luck :)
My guess is he used rigging to make the fluid movement of the cloth (he used ncloth i bet for the texture of it) and then animated it in maya i think. exported to max and boom!
nCloth is a dynamics simulator, based off of the nucleus algorithm - and was responsible for the movement of the cloth. By the looks of it; a simple Hypershade network was used for the texture of the cloth

Do you need ridiculous specs for you computer to run Maya?
DanteFingers 1 year ago
@DanteFingers No ways! My Dell Studio 1558 can *run* it fine... but to get some serious work done you'll need a workstation! :P

wow nice but y there is a X in front of it.
computerwars 3 years ago 2
theres an x in front because i used a trial version of combustion. i rendered each separate image, 500 frames and processed it in that program

Have you tried using VirtualDub? It'd do the job, plus it's freeware.
