This was a dark ass movie lol: It had kids dying of pnuemonia, lots of talk about death, Brisby giving out advice about girls to the crow, torture involving scientific experiments, weird cult overtones, cinder blocks smashing old men, fools getting stabbed in the stomach with a sword, stabbed in the back with a dagger, ....blood, and I had to laugh when Justin said "damn!" when Brisby got caught..lol.
But it's a well produced movie. Not perfect, but watchable.
I'm so glad I was born in the 90's but I feel so sad for kids now they haven't gotten any movies like this or such wonderful animators that you can see how much passion and effort into making these movies it makes my heart sink that kids are missing out on these types of movies because people would say this is a bad movie for kids. Brisby was a loving mother! It's a pity she got replaced in the sequel, because she wore a cape, an amulet, and proved her courage with the color red. There is no mouse like her in the whole world, so why are characters' lives so short?

In the dream, the great owl never harmed me, he had a soft spot for me. In the dream, I was a part of the Brisby family, Justin and Brutus were like my uncles, Nicodemus and Mr. Ages were like my grandpa's. I was a kid when I had these dreams and I loved being loved by the heroes of this movie, even Jeremy was like my humorous uncle. I was 9 years old in these dreams. I missed those days when I had these dreams,I had these dreams again because I loved being loved by the characters of this movie
@PinkPunkyKat What happened in the dreams and by the way, Timmy gets better but the mother suggests him to stay in bed a little longer to be on the safe side.
@PinkPunkyKat Oh, that sounds like you had a good childhood, can you give me your opinion on my dreams of the secret of nimh that I mentioned in my comments here?
@Animeforever61 Your dreams sound cool. I rememer getting obsessed with Titan A.E. and having vivd dreams about interacting with the characters. Those were more vivid than my Lion King dreams. No, I had a horrible childhood but good parents. I was bullied all the time in school and when I tried to defend myself, I was labled the bully.
@PinkPunkyKat Thanks for giving me your opinion on my dreams. I went through the same thing in my childhood, my childhood was hell and everyone bullied me to the point of insanity, when I tried to fight back, I got in trouble and was labled the bully while the real bullies got set free, my own father and his side of the family didn't even love me but the only one who loves me is my mother. I even ended up living with my loving mother, you and I are a lot alike, need a hug *opens arms*
@PinkPunkyKat At least your family was there for you, my sister resented me, because she got everything she wanted and I didn't, even now, my dad, my sister, my grand parents from my dad's side, my dad's second wife and all sorts of people never loved me because I wasn't like them but my mother loved me the way I was. Being rejected hurts and no one cared *sheads a tear* my mother is the only one who loves me, the rest of my dad's family is a different story, I could use that hug now.
@Animeforever61 Don't really think they were. I always felt I was adopted so they could get their jollies by lording over me or taunting me. I'm so sick of living in the shadows of my siblings. My parents think I can't do anything and that I must be sheltered. I may be autistic, but I am not stupid.
@PinkPunkyKat Oh, sorry, it was the same way with my family, my dad hates because I'm not like my sister, my grabd parents from my dad's side are always saying mean things to me, my step mother is the worse parent ever, my sister was always a big mouth when it came to making me angry and none of them care. I'm going through the same thing your going through but the only one who loves me is my mother, I may be handicapped with an anger problem but I'm not dumb and I'm no slave. I feel your pain.
@PinkPunkyKat Even though my dad and his side of the family didn't want me because I wasn't like my sister, they thought I was a mistake because they wanted a daughter or grand daughter, they got tired of having sons and once I was born and found out I was a boy, they were disappointed, it's like I was put on this earth to suffer, no friends, no family to love me and no love. My mother is the only one who loves me and the only friends I had were the movies and tv shows I watched. We need a hug.
@Animeforever61 You weren't put here to suffer. People do awful things to others for no reason at all, but all that means is that they choose to act despicably. You've come through a lot, and I'm sure that it's made you stronger. It's up to you to become better than what they were. If they choose to be cruel, let them stew in it and go your own way, but try to find a way to forgive them; if you don't, your anger will hurt you more than it will anyone else.
@AstralDragoon I don't want to forgive anyone who causes me trouble and my anger doesn't hurt me more than anyone else and when people make me mad, I find a way or two to get back at them, without resorting to something crazy. Why would you say that *cries a lot of tears and hugs a pillow to comfort myself*
@Animeforever61 Why would I say what? I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. :( I just think that by holding things against people and trying to get back at them, it keeps you in a mindset that is emotionally damaging. If you try to hurt others who have hurt you, you're staying in a cycle of pain. I'm not saying it's easy to forgive, but knowing that you chose to return kindness for evil gives a great sense of peace.
@AstralDragoon Also, everyone held everything against me so when any of them played dirty towards me, I played dirty back at them by reporting them to whose in charge, not by hurting them physically. Not to mention, ignoring them doesn't work, I've tried that too.
@AstralDragoon I know it's not easy to forgive and forget but I tried all that and it didn't work, by the way, I don't hurt them physically, I would just report them to anyone whose in charge, I know you didn't mean to hurt my feelings but it's like they say "Take a mile in my shoes" than you'd see things from my point of view and life through my eyes, no matter what I did to live a better life, someone always ruined it so I reported them. We can talk more on our inboxes if you still wanna talk
@Animeforever61 That's fine with me, but I won't be able to send a message until tomorrow; I have to head home now and my apartment doesn't have Internet hooked up. Let's talk more then, OK?
@Animeforever61 I can't imagine what you've been through, because I haven't been there myself, but I know what you mean about movies and shows being your friends. I feel very isolated from my peers because I can't connect with them on the levels most people do; my interests are totally different, and I utterly despise much of what's popular today. For that reason, I feel a little of what you do; the Brisby family and the characters from "Balto" are some of my best friends.
@AstralDragoon I feel the same way, I would dream of being good friends with them and do what we always do, fight evil, have adventures and they would love me for who I am. At least you know I deserve better.
I loved this movie when I was a kid. I had a dream that I was an orphaned mouse child and I had nowhere to go until Justin found me and cared for me, even Brutus and Nicodemus cared for me. Jeremy made me laugh, I brought out Mr. Ages soft side and he was soft hearted and kind when around me. They saved me from a killer who was my own abusive father. My father was killed and I joied the Brisby family and Mr. Brisby became my mother, she loved me, her kids loved me, their aunt thought I was cute
Dang, this takes me BACK. I miss this movie. :'/ Beautiful song. Gawd, this song can make me cry ANY time. T_T' Haha, thank you so much for posting! :) Love it!
This has got to be one of the best scenes in all movie history-BEST, because of how GOOD this scene really is, and how it makes you feel. This scene is basically on par with the best sacred, classical, etc. music out there, the most Godly music in existence. A mother's love... Puts every thought and feeling that is not heavenly to shame. Absolutely heavenly music, and we need a HECK of a lot more music JUST LIKE THAT. :)
@BenjaminGessel God, your comment made me cry, just like the scene....I love this movie and the character of Mrs. Brisby....She is nothing special but a mother who does anything for her son. Absolutely wonderful film...
@hyuugabunk I think all mothers are very special in their own ways. Yes, mrs.brisby was a lovely, caring, kind mother who took care of her babies very well. I loved all the characters especially the great owl. I hope all the good actors come back when God says its time. Including walt disney and all the good childhood directors.
Perhaps in the future I plan on making a traditional animated film. It would done with cels, and the film would be targeted for the people who grew up watching old animated films and cartoons (perhaps an NC-17(or R due to censorship laws) The film would be called "Rabbido Rabbi". Its a story about a rabbit named Todd who grew up in tragedy, and abuse, trying to find peace in his life. He meets a woman name Marie who changes his life. I'm still working on it though.
@Goten1992 I don't know what you mean by that, there have been many movies that were better than this one (at least 2 of them this year alone), especially if you've read the book and know how badly it was butchered.
@JacobPaige I don't think you understood the intent of my comment. I was not saying this movie is better than any other movie. I was merely reminiscing about my childhood, because I remember loving this movie as a kid. Whether you think the book, or any other random movie is better, has nothing to do with it.
It also doesn't make sense, like for example, somebody's favourite movie is not based upon whether it is considered a masterpiece or not, it's just what you like, simple as that.
This is why it's great that Don Bluth knew the difference between kid's movies and family movies. This one has pathos that I didn't pick up on when I was a kid, but that strikes me deeply now. I re-watched this movie for the first time in years here on YouTube, and my heart broke for Mrs. Brisby when I saw this scene; I could have cried. Watching this, I just wish I could reach into the film and comfort them all somehow.
I feel really sorry for Timmy Brisby. He gets bitten by a spider, catches pneumonia, and ends up in an awful, disgraceful, and completely annoying made to video sequal, Secret of Nimh 2: Timmy to the Rescue.
@galacticdevil I watched 5 minutes of that abomination before turning it off in disgust. Similarly for the Balto sequels. The Rescuers Down Under was good, but other than that, animated sequels don't seem to carry the torch very well.
I agree; the sequel sucked major booty! the animation was crappy, nothing like Don Bluths. The story was okay, but the entire movie reminded me of a Vaudville musical mixed with Scooby Doo!
I agree; the sequel sucked major booty! the animation was crappy, nothing like Don Bluths. The story was okay, but the entire movie reminded me of a Vaudville musical mixed with Scooby Doo!
Hi I agree; the 2nd movie sucked major booty! The animation was crap! and overall the entire movie reminded me of a Vaudville routine mixed with Scooby Doo!
@galacticdevil i agree with you but i also have to disagree. I disagree because i thought (just personally) that timmy needed a bigger role in the first secret of nimh. His part was so small it was ridiculous. But I agree with you because though The Secert of Nimh 2 was a ok movie they could have done a LOT better of a job on it. I wanted timmy to have a good movie not a very bad musical movie.
I don't understand by that. Anyway I was wondering why that little mouse, the one with the blue ribbon tied around her waist was trying to get close tho sick mouse and Mrs. Brisby.
The other mice in the scene are Mrs. Brisby's other children. In this scene, the little mouse with the ribbon, Cynthia, is trying to find out what's going on; she sees her sick brother and is worried about him- Her older sister, Teresa, is worried too, but is trying to keep her out of the way.
That was so BEAUTIFUL! BTW, I can't seem to understand why that little mouse, the one with a ribbon tied around her, was running toward the sick mouse's bed, and with her tounge hanging out like that.
One of the greatest animated movies ever! They really need to make animated movies like this again! I miss Don Bluth movies so much! I hate the CGI garbage that Disney has been spewing out!
Up wasn't bad...heck, I love all the Pixar/Disney films :)
Disney has some CGI films that aren't affiliated/partnered with Pixar at all, but those tend to suck. (Chicken Little, The Wild, Valient, were bad, the only one I enjoyed was Meet the Robinsons)
So yeah... i pretty much agree with every other post here. This is one of the best moments in a movie ever. And yes, the older movies are much more 'intelligent' than new ones.
No animated movie studio would dare make something this touching and endearing. Only Bluth was able to do it right, and this is still THE most touching scene in any movie ever made.
I think no animated movie studio would dare make this because by today's standards, it's a dreadfully violent movie. But I saw it repeatedly when I was little. I still adore this movie even now. And this was a wonderfully sweet scene.
I remember watching this when I was about ten or eleven and rewinding the movie at this part to hear the song over and over again. The 90's did have some good shows. The new stuff is hardly worth viewing - they act as though kids can take nothing seriously anymore.
I'm a 90's kid lol I just saw the movie today and i'm glad I did! :) it's a realy good movie. yeah todays kids I feel sorry for.. the 90's was still I time for good movies and over all TV shows for a kid thank god. the kids of today don't know what they're missing
I cry at this song!:,) In fact I have a whole collection of songs and music that I cry at. We hulderfolk love listening to sad songs and showing our tears to each other!
I was born in '86 also, and I totally feel the same way.I think we were the last generation, who had the good fortune to grow up on such beautiful pictures like this one.Sadly, you're right,it will never come back, but I feel lucky:)and I feel sorry for children today...
beautiful song, I use it always to help my nephew go to sleep. When he hears it he calms down almost at once. Show you the power of a great lullaby from a fantastic and timeless movie.
Mrs. Brisby is the best example of motherhood ever. She rocks!!
Nostalgia value aside, this quality in entertainment CAN be created in today's medium. The problem remains that few seem to actually WANT to. Which is a shame, cause films like this really embody the epitome of beauty and sincerity in film.
Someone needs to step forward. A person who respects the strength of animation and KNOWS how to use it in a powerful and moving way. A leader!
Perhaps then we can start calling modern entertaiment "good" again.
I'm not going to lie, this makes me want to curl into a ball and cry.

@PinkPunkyKat Oh, that sounds like you had a good childhood, can you give me your opinion on my dreams of the secret of nimh that I mentioned in my comments here?
Animeforever61 1 year ago
@Animeforever61 Your dreams sound cool. I rememer getting obsessed with Titan A.E. and having vivd dreams about interacting with the characters. Those were more vivid than my Lion King dreams. No, I had a horrible childhood but good parents. I was bullied all the time in school and when I tried to defend myself, I was labled the bully.
PinkPunkyKat 1 year ago
@PinkPunkyKat Thanks for giving me your opinion on my dreams. I went through the same thing in my childhood, my childhood was hell and everyone bullied me to the point of insanity, when I tried to fight back, I got in trouble and was labled the bully while the real bullies got set free, my own father and his side of the family didn't even love me but the only one who loves me is my mother. I even ended up living with my loving mother, you and I are a lot alike, need a hug *opens arms*
Animeforever61 1 year ago
@Animeforever61 My father loved me, he just had a hard time expressing it. My brother resented me.
PinkPunkyKat 1 year ago
@PinkPunkyKat At least your family was there for you, my sister resented me, because she got everything she wanted and I didn't, even now, my dad, my sister, my grand parents from my dad's side, my dad's second wife and all sorts of people never loved me because I wasn't like them but my mother loved me the way I was. Being rejected hurts and no one cared *sheads a tear* my mother is the only one who loves me, the rest of my dad's family is a different story, I could use that hug now.
Animeforever61 1 year ago
@Animeforever61 Don't really think they were. I always felt I was adopted so they could get their jollies by lording over me or taunting me. I'm so sick of living in the shadows of my siblings. My parents think I can't do anything and that I must be sheltered. I may be autistic, but I am not stupid.
PinkPunkyKat 1 year ago
@PinkPunkyKat Oh, sorry, it was the same way with my family, my dad hates because I'm not like my sister, my grabd parents from my dad's side are always saying mean things to me, my step mother is the worse parent ever, my sister was always a big mouth when it came to making me angry and none of them care. I'm going through the same thing your going through but the only one who loves me is my mother, I may be handicapped with an anger problem but I'm not dumb and I'm no slave. I feel your pain.
Animeforever61 1 year ago
@PinkPunkyKat Even though my dad and his side of the family didn't want me because I wasn't like my sister, they thought I was a mistake because they wanted a daughter or grand daughter, they got tired of having sons and once I was born and found out I was a boy, they were disappointed, it's like I was put on this earth to suffer, no friends, no family to love me and no love. My mother is the only one who loves me and the only friends I had were the movies and tv shows I watched. We need a hug.
Animeforever61 1 year ago
@Animeforever61 You weren't put here to suffer. People do awful things to others for no reason at all, but all that means is that they choose to act despicably. You've come through a lot, and I'm sure that it's made you stronger. It's up to you to become better than what they were. If they choose to be cruel, let them stew in it and go your own way, but try to find a way to forgive them; if you don't, your anger will hurt you more than it will anyone else.
AstralDragoon 1 year ago
@AstralDragoon I don't want to forgive anyone who causes me trouble and my anger doesn't hurt me more than anyone else and when people make me mad, I find a way or two to get back at them, without resorting to something crazy. Why would you say that *cries a lot of tears and hugs a pillow to comfort myself*
Animeforever61 1 year ago

I watched this as a little kid and thought this part was really sad especially when Cynthia asked "Is Timmy gonna die?"
I wondered too why Cynthia couldn't get up by the bed. I was thinking if Teresa didn't want her to get sick or something.
I had pneumonia as a kid. It wasn't a really bad case but bad enough. If I had been well enough to think very much I'd have commiserated more.
Thanks for uploading! :)

Goten1992 1 year ago
@Goten1992 I don't know what you mean by that, there have been many movies that were better than this one (at least 2 of them this year alone), especially if you've read the book and know how badly it was butchered.
JacobPaige 1 year ago
@JacobPaige I don't think you understood the intent of my comment. I was not saying this movie is better than any other movie. I was merely reminiscing about my childhood, because I remember loving this movie as a kid. Whether you think the book, or any other random movie is better, has nothing to do with it.
It also doesn't make sense, like for example, somebody's favourite movie is not based upon whether it is considered a masterpiece or not, it's just what you like, simple as that.
Goten1992 1 year ago
@Goten1992 ahh, I guess I'd just read too many other comments about this era being the only good one that I was misinterpreting your comment.

He gets bitten by a spider, catches pneumonia, and ends up in an awful, disgraceful, and completely annoying made to video sequal, Secret of Nimh 2: Timmy to the Rescue.
galacticdevil 2 years ago 58
@galacticdevil I watched 5 minutes of that abomination before turning it off in disgust. Similarly for the Balto sequels. The Rescuers Down Under was good, but other than that, animated sequels don't seem to carry the torch very well.

I don't understand by that. Anyway I was wondering why that little mouse, the one with the blue ribbon tied around her waist was trying to get close tho sick mouse and Mrs. Brisby.
BeatlesAmiYumi 2 years ago
The other mice in the scene are Mrs. Brisby's other children. In this scene, the little mouse with the ribbon, Cynthia, is trying to find out what's going on; she sees her sick brother and is worried about him- Her older sister, Teresa, is worried too, but is trying to keep her out of the way.

That was so BEAUTIFUL! BTW, I can't seem to understand why that little mouse, the one with a ribbon tied around her, was running toward the sick mouse's bed, and with her tounge hanging out like that.

It doesn't have to be this way though.
