I don't know why people are thinking this is going to kill plasma or LCD. The life span on one of these currently is 17,000 hours at 8 hours a day thats a six year life span and at 12 hours its 4 years.
Now take the newest Sony 9.9 milimeter 40 inch LCD or Sharp's new 23 milimeter or one inch deep LCD with LED back light at 60,000 hours and at 8 hours a day viewing on a 365 day a year scale thats a life span of 20.5 years and at 12 hours viewing a day thats 13.5 years using artificial LED

i dont trust oled tecnology look at led xmas lights there are so many pematue falures with the leds i would rather use lcd untill they step up the qualaty of leds
@ loggerbomb i like amd im not telling you to like amd so dont get offended by my username but let me ask you this have you ever tried amd or did you make up your oppinion from advice from intel fanboys im not an amd fanboy i own intel systems too and i find them to be a great cpu too but i like amds price/performance
Well to be clear, I was not offended by your username. As for me using AMD, nope have not and do not plan to either. Not because some 'Intel fan boy' told me to, but because I find Intel products work and preform better than AMD - at this point in time. (hence why I said any time soon) Now, when I see evidence that AMD is making good products again, I will re evaluate - as I do with anything I buy.
@ massenergy im not talking about the incandicent xmas lights im talking about the led ones i had a strand of them and within one month of use 5 led's quit working and ive had the same luck with all the others ive ownd too so did my friends im not saying led,s are bad i just find that their are allot of dud or premature failing leds so chances are that you bring home an led tv and after a week 10+ dead pixils apear
Well I suggest you buy your xmas lights from another source besides the salvation army. LEDs are well known to be far more durable and last longer than LCD components. This is something that basically the entire world does not debate, so if you and your friends are having difficulties with them, you are amongst the rarities. LEDs last as long as any other transistor, so you should probably not trust transistors as well, and lose all electronic components in your house.
@ Amdthecunt I am so sure that if you bought a TV from Sony or a major retailer it would be under warranty, so if it did break after a week it wouldnt be a problem coz u could just take it back
OLED, much more efficient, cheaper to produce, blacker black, no backlight needed, You can stack the pixels on top of one another which means better quality and a fresh look, flexible, more environmental friendly.
Just wait till the technology advances, It gets better every years. According to the producers, by the year 2013 or so the prices would reach to an affordable point.
for people that dont get why you would need somthing this thin, click the foldable OLED display video link on the right side... its the same Exact tecnology.
OLED its the feature , right now you can choose what kind of tecnology u want to use , but in the short feature , CRT will be avoid by law , it waste too much energy and its components are very toxic, give five to OLED and welcome to my house

i dont care how thin my tv is really... sure its cool, but you cant touch it cause itd snap in half! plus the base on it is the same width as any other tv's (with the exclusin of wall-mounted ones), and comparatively it doesnt make a difference
saving space is only 1 of the possitive of using LCD, the picture quality is better, better frame rate, brighter, more colors, energy efficient and modern style. That is why EVERYONE ELSE use LCD except u. It doesnt' snap in half if u touch it. If u do then u must be very reckless. And Yes, IT LCD DOES make a difference
That's one thin screen. Only one question remains: Why?
I have a 32" CRT screen and it's just fine.
I don't see why you'd have to have a hugely thin TV, because it's still going to take roughly the same amount of space in a room anyway, what with all the DVD players and everything else that can't really be made that thin.
because its stylish, because its cheap to produce, because the colors look nicer, and because uses less power than other televisions. i think they will start mass producing begin/middle 2008
Since it is mass production, u would pay similar or less for a LCD. Unless u recently bought a CRT from a defect store whose over charge you. For 4 grand, u could get a quality gigantic high res LCD which surely cost much less than the same size CRT if u can find 1
It saves so much space over a crt, compare the foot print. When you have a long narrow desk it frees up a page of desk space. I used to have a 19" CRT, the only practicle desk is a corner style desk. With a smaller disoplay you can make smaller sleaker pakagin. Think thin dvd drive/ amp mounted behind the tv all of that mounts on the wall.
Just discovered these myself. Brighter than LCD but high-speed and will cost less. Can be printed on mylar and rolled up ?! Same size/resolution constraints as LCD I think. I can only find them on camcorders so far.
I've seen specs for a 27" OLED display showing full 1080p signal.
I'm personally waiting on either OLED or SED before I get my next TV. But if I had to choose, OLED looks like a winner to me, I just hope they fix the issues and get the product out ASAP.
laronfox....In 4 years they will be printing screens on paper. In 20 we'll all have oled contact lenses..

The majority of Christmas lights are built off of the incandescent light bulbs. LED xmas lights will last longer than the pixels on your LCD screen.
