Basic training, Ft Leonard Wood, 1992. I was a snot nosed 19 year old flying in from Guam right into Missouri in November.  I got used to the cold REAL quick!

You know what a lot of my buddies smack on the Army for "weaker" training, but this just proves them wrong. I come from the desert, and moved to Chicago. Much respect for recruits out training in the snow with full gear on.

That's snow? My first day at Fort Devens for my AIT, we had a foot of snow that fell on the ground overnight. I got woke up at 5am to shovel snow. An interesting introduction to the next 26 years of my life as a soldier in the US Army.

If you take a close look at time: 2:15 sec, you will see my son Thomas Patton hit the guy next to him, in the head, with a snow ball, and then laugh about it. If you miss it, play it over and over again until you see what I'm talking about. I'm about 95% sure that's my son Thomas, because he's 6'4", 250 lbs, and he's the tallest guy in ranks. Also, he has that kind of sense of humor, plus a smile that is unmistakable. Somebody needs to prove to me that's not him, because he is basic training.

ACU doesn't look that bad there, it's not a great camouflage in many areas but it definitely does work in certain areas like coniferous forests, mountains, arid brush, and urban warfare.

I've got some pictures of US troops in the Afghan mountains and it works very well.

@Michaelslegend ican tell u this much basic training changes ur life and it change it for good i went to fort jakson trying to be a soldier it didnt happend but while i was there i found my self and i became a better person as long as u dont get hurt or in trouble u will be fine and if u ar ephisically ready basic training is gonna be easy iwsh you the best and to u and other future soldiers thank u for choosing to answer the call
